That first witness is actually a sniper and firearms expert. So this witness is Michael McKay. He was hired by Ruth's defense team earlier in the year to test if the rifle found at the golf course would fire properly or at all. McClain testified that one round fired and the second bullet got jammed. Ruth tried to suggest that because the gun malfunctioned, it wasn't semi automatic. He suggested that a target 375 yards away would not be hit, suggesting that President Trump could not have been in danger.

Detectives Mark Baker, Cody Becker and Isa Imanhiser were killed while trying to serve a warrant in a domestic investigation when Matthew James Ruth opened fire on them from inside a home. Ruth died after being shot by police. Rachel Dettinger knew Baker. He worked her son's case when her son was shot a decade ago.
