The U.S. investigators in Porter County, Indiana, say Serbian national 54 year old Borko Stankovic was operating a big rig October 15th when he swerved from the westbound lanes of US 20 into the eastbound lanes into oncoming traffic, hitting a vehicle head on and killing the driver. He now faces charges including homicide and criminal recklessness. The Department of Homeland Security also placing a detainer on Stankovic, saying he's been in the country illegally since 2011 with a criminal history out of New York. Investigators also say that Stankovic lived in Lyons, Illinois, and was operating the semi truck using a suspended license that belongs to a family member.

A mother is found and arrested after a newborn was abandoned at a New York City subway station.

The 30 year old woman is charged with abandoning and endangering a child. She was recorded on a busy sidewalk in a two second video clip that showed her carrying something that appears to be wrapped in a bundle and held as if it were a baby. The baby girl was found with her umbilical cord still attached. On Monday, NYPD officers responded to a call of a baby wrapped in a blanket and left in a passageway at the Penn Station subway stop during morning rush hour. She was taken to a hospital and is reportedly stable. New York's safe haven law allows a parent to relinquish a newborn at a hospital or a staffed police or fire station without fear of being prosecuted. In New York City, Tanya J. Wife Meghan are signing onto a letter calling for a ban on AI superintelligence until safety and public consensus are assured. The joint letter from celebrities, political figures and AI pioneers targets Google, Meta, OpenAI and other tech giants over concern about a possible threat to humanity, including security risks and economic disruption as superintelligence is developed. One tech giant is cutting jobs in an AI unit.

Meta Platforms is cutting about 600 positions in its superintelligence labs. Artificial intelligence unit Axios is reporting the cut, citing an internal memo. It says the jobs will be eliminated at Facebook's Artificial Intelligence Research Unit, product related AI and AI infrastructure units. The report says the company decided its AI efforts were overly bureaucratic. The newly formed TBD Lab, which stands for To Be Determined, will not be cutting staff, the memo says. Those being laid off are being encouraged to apply for other positions in the company.
