Illegal crossings have plummeted to historic lows under the Trump administration and Border Patrol has been supercharged with new funding and resources from the One Big Beautiful bill. It's also an election year and Republicans want to show their work to voters ahead of the midterms. Texas Senator John Cornyn is in a tough primary race against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. President Trump hasn't endorsed either of them yet. Cornyn made it known to Texas taxpayers he fought to get billions in reimbursements for the state in the One Big Beautiful bill after the state paid to secure its own border during the Biden administration.
