The results are in on election night 2025. I'm Ted Lindner, Fox News, New York. Democratic nominee Zoram Mamdani has been elected as New York City's next mayor. The mayor elect defeating independent candidate Andrew Cuomo, whom he wished the best in private life while speaking to his supporters from Brooklyn.

The former governor Andrew Cuomo, warming the city was headed down a dangerous, dangerous road, but offered to help Mamdani in any way he can. He'll be the city's first Muslim mayor and the youngest in more than 100 years. In New Jersey, Congresswoman Mikey Sherrill has been elected, making her the state's first female Democratic governor. Speaking of supporters, Sherrill promises to fight for everyone in the Garden State.

Former president Barack Obama endorsed Sherilyn spoke alongside her. Last weekend, President Trump had endorsed Republican candidate Jack Cittarelli. Speaking after the polls closed, Spamberger thanked her Republican opponent, winsome Earl Sears for the hard fought race.

At least seven people have been killed, 11 others injured when a UPS cargo plane crashed while taking off in Louisville, Kentucky Tuesday. Louisville's mayor Craig Greenberg says the NTSB is investigating.

The plane was headed to Honolulu before it exploded and former Vice President Dick Cheney has died.

Dick Cheney served as vice president for eight years during times of serious national security issues, September 11, the war in Afghanistan and then the war in Iraq. Cheney was not known for the flashy soundbite but had tremendous substance on significant issues. Cheney dealt with significant heart issues after suffering heart attacks when he was vice president, he would frequently go to George Washington University Hospital for treatment. The doctors there helped him serve during a challenging eight years in the White House. When then Governor Bush selected Dick Cheney to be his running mate, he said he cannot think of a better person to do it.

Cheney was 84 and the government shut down, breaking the all time record at 36 days.

The US is now in the midst of the longest government shutdown in history. Republicans have tried over a dozen times to pass a stopgap measure to reopen the government until November 21. But now majority Leader John Thune says a new date is needed.

We've lost five weeks, so the November 21 deadline no longer makes a lot of sense. So clearly it would have to be extended. And there is a conversation around what that next deadline would be.
