An end in sight. I'm Ted Lindner, FOX News. The Senate Sunday night voting to break.
Chad Pergrim
A filibuster that could lead to the passage of Republicans continuing resolution plan ending the government shutdown. Fox's Chad Pergrim with the latest details for us tonight from Capitol Hill.
It's now only a matter of time before the government shutdown is over, probably later this week. The Senate broke a filibuster on a new GOP spending package which will end the shutdown. The vote was 60 to 40. The Senate needed all 60 of those yeas to break the filibuster. 52 Republicans and eight Democrats teamed up to greenlight the bill. The bill funds the government through late January. Three other parts of the government are funded through September. Most Democrats held out for a deal to offset spiking health care costs, but they never got anything ironclad. The Senate likely passes the bill later this week.
The vote comes as the shutdown's effects mount, with travelers facing delays and cancellations at airports nationwide and federal employees working without pay shut down into day 40 on Sunday and the airlines continuing to comply with FAA flight restrictions to deal with the air traffic controller callouts. Airlines canceling over 2,600 flights Sunday. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy telling Fox if the government shutdown continues, it's only going to get worse.
Sean Duffy
Yes, you'll have a few flights taking off and landing at our different airports across the country, but the thousands of flights that happen every day to move people around the country for this great American holiday, it's not going to happen.
