state votes by mail. California is one of eight states plus the District of Columbia that automatically mail ballots to all active registered voters. And in California, voters can drop their absentee ballots at dropboxes or voting centers or at the post office on Election Day. As long as the ballot is postmarked on Election Day, the ballots have seven more days to reach the registrar's offices across the state. That pushes us to June 9th, and then they can be counted for another 13 days after election day, bringing us to June 15th. And it could be another two weeks before the election is certified.
