The state of Ohio will soon require photo ID for mail in voting in the 2027 election.

The new legislation, officially called House Bill 472 is one of two the Ohio state House fast tracked this month. It also approved a Senate bill that would amend the state constitution to add photo requirements for in person voting. Republicans call the measures common sense and say polling shows voters support them, while Democrats call the changes unnecessary, saying documented voter fraud is rare. The bill that would amend the state constitution will now be put on the November ballot. The bill requiring photo ID for mail in voting is awaiting Governor Mike DeWine's signature.
