Vice President J.D. vance was supposed to be on a flight to Switzerland to kick start this 60 day negotiating period with the Iranians over its nuclear program. But that trip was scrapped when Iran said it would not be attending because of this attack between Hezbollah and Israel.

Council President Antonio Costa says Europe needs direct contact with Russia to protect its interests and not rely on U. S led negotiations, adding the goal is communication, not negotiation. A New York City police officer is hospitalized in stable condition after being shot during a gunfight this morning with a man barricaded in Brooklyn. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch inside of the residence.

Change in strategy in Luigi Mangione's state trial means his defense team will not argue that he suffered from extreme emotional disturbance and his mental health records are now back under seal. The judge writing, quote, in light of the defendant's withdrawal of the notice, the court's previous order sealing certain transcripts, emails and documents remains in effect. In an earlier hearing, Mangione's defense team conceded that pursuing that mental health defense would have required an admission of the CR that could have complicated his federal trial because his assertion of extreme emotional disturbance may not hold up under federal law.
