They're rushing to rewrite the bill and senators are getting frustrated. But senators are not willing to begin debate until the bill is finished. One of the biggest problems is the reduction for state and local taxes in high tax states. The Senate dropped from the bill a provision barring illegal immigrants from receiving Medicare and Medicaid benefits. Also a carve out on taxing the endowments of religious schools. House Republicans are not ready to accept whatever the Senate approves now. The earliest the Senate may pass the bill is Sunday night or Monday. The House will give its members 48 hours to return to D.C. before voting.

Fox and Chad Pergam at the Capitol the naval ship Harvey Milk, named after an assassinated gay politician, is renamed the Oscar V. Peterson for a sailor killed during a battle in the Pacific in 1942. A federal court hearing today for the man accused of killing a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband is delayed.

Vance Belter's federal hearing is postponed until July 3rd after his lawyer said he'd been placed on suicide watch and had not been able to sleep at the jail where he's being held. Belter faces charges including murder in the June 14 shooting deaths of Melissa Hortman, the former Democratic speaker of the Minnesota House of Representatives, and her husband, Mark. Police say Belter shot the Hortman's at their home after shooting Democratic State Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette. Belter was arrested following a two day manhunt. Prosecutors say he had a list of other targets. The Hordmans are lying in state at the Minnesota State Capitol of alongside their golden retriever Gilbert, who was also killed in the attack. Tanya J.
