A call for Congress to act. Lisa Brady, FOX News. President Trump says he would support a congressional effort to eliminate birthright citizenship now that a split U.S. supreme Court rejected his executive order aimed at preventing children born in the US from being citizens if their parents are in the country illegally or with temporary status.
Narrator/Reporter
In a social media post, President Trump says the court ruling is too bad for the country but can be made up in Congress. Chief Justice John Roberts led a majority in ruling the 14th amendment confers citizenship on any person born on US soil. Justice Brett Kavanaugh agreed to strike down the executive order but disagreed about the 14th Amendment ruling. Instead, federal law provides birthright citizenship, adding Congress could change that.

The 6:3 decision says free speech rights are violated with limits on money spent when a political party coordinates with a candidate.

The case was filed after the Republican Party and Then Ohio Senator J.D. vance argued campaign finance rules were limiting their ability to coordinate. Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote for the majority that campaign finance restrictions must be narrowly tailored to prevent quid pro quo corruption, but that these political party coordination caps go too far, that there are other tools like earmarks and disclosure requirements that do a better job of making sure donors don't try to circumvent campaign finance limits.
