President Trump issued an executive order for a task force to make DC Safe and beautiful after complaining the city's crime rate was too high and threatening a federal takeover of the District. Both carjackings and homicides dropped significantly last year after spikes in 2023. But there have still been high profile incidents, including the beating of a former Doge official last weekend as he tried to intervene during a carjacking at the White House. The GBI has identified the suspected shooter as 30 year old Patrick Joseph White. He has died. The DeKalb County Police officer who died is 33 year old David Rose and he leaves behind a wife, two children and a third child on the way. The Atlanta police chief says officers found Rose critically hurt at the shooting scene not long after the first 911 call regarding an active shooter. Rose was rushed to the nearby Emory Hospital, where he later died. Now, when officers found Rose, they heard gunshots coming from inside a nearby CVS and they found a suspected shooter on the second floor. The shooting prompted lockdown at the cdc, Emory University and nearby schools and daycares. Officials told the community to run and hide.

Police say they have not yet determined what White's motive may have been. Attorney General Ken Paxton in Texas is asking the state's highest court to vacate the seats. More than a dozen Texas House Democrats who've left the state to break the quorum, thereby preventing a vote on redrawn congressional district maps.

The Texas House speaker gave Democrats a deadline to show up or face consequences. Quorum was not met yet again while dozens of Democrats are in blue states refusing to come back. We did speak to one Democrat, though, who did show up. Texas House Speaker Dustin Burroughs now says there are no more direct deposits. If Democrats want to get paid, they will have to show up in person. The House speaker is also working with the Texas attorney general to inform four civil arrest warrants in Illinois, the FBI helping locate those absent members.
