The man accused of plotting to assassinate President Trump as he was golfing last September is interrupted by the judge during opening statements at his federal trial in Florida.

After prosecutors laid out the types of evidence jurors will hear during this trial, Ryan Ruth, who's representing himself, began to tell jurors about his thoughts, not about the case, rather about the human species and deaths in other countries at the hands of leaders like Hitler and Vladimir Putin. The judge, Eileen Cannon, had the jury leave the room and told Ruth his words are irrelevant to the case. He offered to instead read from the Constitution. He tried again, but the judge again had the jury exit and Ruth told her he'd like to talk about peace. She said he had relinquished his ability to deliver his own opening statement and had prosecutors proceed with their first witness.

Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance are meeting with Charlie Kirk's family and close friends in Salt Lake City, not far from far from where the influential conservative activist was assassinated Wednesday on a college campus. Kirk's friends and family and his casket will fly to Phoenix aboard Air Force Two, accompanied by the vice president and the second lady. President Trump is also mourning the murder of Kirk, announcing today that Kirk will receive posthumously the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor, at the White House.
