A war on drug cartels. Lisa Brady, FOX News. Though President Trump stopped short of using the word war in a memo sent to Congress yesterday and just confirmed by Fox News. The administration says the U.S. is in a non international armed conflict with drug cartels which it has designated as terrorist organizations. This follows recent deadly U.S. strikes on what the Pentagon says were drug smuggling vessels in the Caribbean, at least two of them originating from Venezuela. Some Democrats have accused the Trump administration of exceeding its powers to use the military against cartels. The memo to Congress says the president has a responsibility to protect Americans. Also citing national security. The White House warning of mass layoffs as a government shutdown continues. The president meeting with his budget chief.
J.D. Vance
We should get an idea maybe of exactly what agencies or what departments and what programs might be targeted from that. Now the president following that up, poking fun at Democrats, saying, I can't believe the radical left Democrats gave me this unprecedented opportunity. Vice President J.D. vance says the administration will have to take extraordinary measures to make sure the government operates again. All of it designed to add pressure to a clean CR to get that passed to keep the government open. A negotiation over the full budget could begin after that.

FOX Business Edward Lawrence at the White House. Democrats say Republicans are to blame for refusing to negotiate on their health care concerns before time ran out. What Delta Air Lines describes as a low speed collision on a New York Runway remains under investigation. Two regional jets colliding at LaGuardia Airport last night as one was preparing for takeoff to Virginia, the other arriving from North Carolina. That's air traffic control. Audio from liveatc.net, the impact damaging a cockpit, tearing off part of a wing. Only one injury reported to a flight attendant. The NTSB says it happened at the intersection of two taxiways.
