A stalemate. In Washington, D.C. i'm Pam Pusoe, FOX News. Democrats and Republicans are digging in amid a government shutdown that's entering its second week.
Chad Pergram
There are no real talks. In fact, the sides appear to be talking past one another right now. There's not a combination anytime soon of votes to reopen the government. The House canceled votes this week. House Speaker Mike Johnson told Republicans yesterday that the House is out until Democrats relent. Democrats are seething that the House remains out of session. Everyone is now waiting for Budget Director Russ vote to begin canceling programs and firing federal workers. Democrats say vote should tread carefully now. The Senate votes again on Monday on the same things which failed Friday. Nothing has changed since then. But lawmakers are starting to worry about federal workers missing paychecks on October 15th if this is not resolved soon.

Egypt has reopened the tomb of Pharaoh Amenhotep III to visitors after more than 20 years of restoration. Situated in Luxor's Valley of the Kings, the tomb, first discovered back in 1799, had been looted long ago. A Japanese led team oversaw the renovations, which included preserving wall paintings of the pharaoh and his wife. The tomb features a long corridor and burial chambers. The reopening comes as Egypt prepares to launch the Grand Egyptian Museum, part of a broader push to revive tourism. The iconic Vermont music club that helped launch the band Phish and nurtured countless other musicians has shut down after 50 years.
