A judge formally dismissed the criminal charges case after a new prosecutor asked him to do just that. Peter Scandalakis, the independent prosecutor, wrote that in his dismissal request that merely contesting an election is not illegal and that dragging out the case until after Donald Trump leaves office would be unproductive. Now, this case, Brett, stemmed from that 2020 phone call where President Trump spoke to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in Georgia on the phone and said, quote, I just want to find 11,780 votes, end quote. The judge not only threw out Trump's portion, but the 18 CO defendants are also in the clear.
