Two members of the National Guard serving in Washington, D.C. was shot at point blank range in a monstrous ambush style attack just steps away from the White House. Federal prosecutors say the suspect is from Afghanistan for now facing charges of assault with intent to kill. D.C. u.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro says Ramona Lakhinwal drove cross country for the attack. He resided in Bellingham, Washington with his wife and we believe five children. He was allowed into the US Under a Biden refugee program after working with the CIA in Afghanistan and was later granted asylum by the Trump administration, which has now suspended the processing of immigration requests related to Afghan nationals and is reviewing asylum cases. It's a white Thanksgiving in the Great Lakes region and the heavy snow isn't over yet. Fox's Katie Byrne is in western New York near Lake Erie.

We are basically in a snow globe here in Sherman, New York, as this lake effect snow event impacts millions of people not only here in the state, but also in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Ohio. Far in the lead for snow totals is Michigan. They have towns there buried in nearly a foot and a half of snow. And some drivers are having some trouble with it. We've seen some sliding off roads as conditions deteriorate there.

Windy conditions also knocking out power to thousands in Michigan, Wisconsin and western New York. And the storm could have a ripple effect on travel for the trip home from Thanksgiving.

Staffing remains an issue in the US Air traffic control system, but not like during the government shutdown when Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says in addition to some controllers trying to make ends meet by working other jobs, there was a spike in retirements adding to an existing shortage.

He says typically The FAA sees about four air traffic controllers retire daily. But of course, during the shutdown, anywhere from 15 to 20 air traffic controllers retired every day.

We're about 2,000 controllers short trying to up that difference. We're going to do it. We're going to work on it.

During the shutdown, the FAA forced airlines to cancel flights because the shortage got so bad. Since then, Duffy says, we've seen some progress. Retirements have slowed down and fewer ATC workers are calling in sick.
