We heard from Sheriff Bob Norris regarding the ambush and the tragic killing of two firefighters as they responded to a forest fire that had been set. Police did find a man with a firearm nearby. They believe that man to be the suspect. The man was found on the mountain where the firefighters were ambushed. The sheriff also confirming that those two firefighters were killed and that a third that underwent surgery is in stable condition but had life threatening injuries. Officials say Cruz responded around 2pm local time to a brush fire near Coeur d' Alene when the incident happened. Investigators say that the fire was intentionally set as part of that ambush. The Senate is in recess after debating President Trump's biggest beautiful bill well into Sunday night. They'll reconvene at 9 Eastern this morning. Republican Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina, meantime, bails on a reelection campaign and also in 2026 after opposing that legislation.
Madeleine Rivera
The president has been working the phone speaking with Republican lawmakers. He is watching what the Senate is doing very closely and he has certainly not held back on his criticism of GOP skeptics. He said he would meet with people wanting to primary Senator Thom Tillis, coming just hours before Tillis announced he won't be seen seeking reelection, a post that certainly added to the challenges of what would have already been a tough reelection campaign for Tillis. But the bill's final passage is not necessarily guaranteed. Vice President J.D. vance is on standby ready to provide a tie breaking vote if necessary.
