Democratic Texas State Representative Gene Wu after Republicans pushed through a Trump backed congressional map last night in the state House. That map is designed to give Republicans five more seats in the U.S. house and Democrats say they'll fight it.

Advocacy groups are already preparing for their own legal fights over the new map. One group, the League of United Latin American Citizens, is asking a federal court to go ahead and set aside dates in September for an expedited hearing, telling the court they're willing to take their case all the way to the Supreme Court.

Now this as the California Supreme Court rejects Republican efforts to block a Democratic redistricting plan in that state. State lawmakers are expecting approve a congressional map today to flip five California U.S. house seats to the Democrats.

State Republicans call it a power grab. Poland says it scrambled military jets this morning to protect its airspace as Russia launched one of the biggest attacks this year on Ukraine. This has President Trump's efforts to get Ukrainian and Russian presidents to meet appear to be stalling. The Kremlin poured cold water on claims of progress, saying it won't agree to security guarantees for Ukraine unless Russia is part of the group providing Ukraine security. Fox's Jackie Heinrich and the Trump administration's touting its success in cracking down on crime. It says federalized police have made more than 550 arrests so far. America's listening to Fox News.

Hurricane Erin is battering North Carolina's Outer Banks with strong winds and waves, flooding part of the main highway as the monster storm inches closer to the mid.

Atlantic coast, flooding not just the waves but actual flooding moving into some of these areas, probably anywhere from two to up to four feet. And then as we get later in the week, we watch the storm continue to track north. It still will impact some area beaches as you head into the weekend. So getting up along New England and in parts of the mid Atlantic, you're looking at a high rip current risk.

The Broward sheriff's office says it took detectives just hours to come up with a suspect. 15 year old Dimitri Florimond. BSO says the teen dumped the body in the canal after shooting his brother when he returned home from work. BSO says the shooting happened where where the teen lived with his brother and mother.

Target's chief operating officer Michael Fidelke will take over from CEO Brian Cornell in February. Cornell has been leading target for 11 years. He'll remain with Target as executive chairman. Target sales have been dealing with a prolonged sales slump. It faced Boyco shoppers because of its Pride Month displays two years ago and then a separate boycott after it pulled back on corporate diversity, equity and inclusion policies. Fidelke says his goal will be to revive Target's focus on stylish, unique merchandise and great customer experiences.
