Texas Governor Greg Abbott argues House Democratic leader Gene Woo forfeited his seat, vacating it when he and more than 50 other Democrats fled the state last year to prevent a vote on a new, more Republican friendly congressional map. Abbott asked the all Republican state Supreme Court to remove Wu from office. It's refusing to do that, saying essentially it's not getting involved in a dispute where there are already tools for the executive and legislative branches to resolve it and in this case did with political pressure and fines without judicial intervention. The Texas redistricting effort kicked off a cascading effort by both parties across the country to redraw voting maps of this year's midterm elections as President Trump pushes the GOP to retain a slim majority in Congress. Meantime, Florida's new GOP friendly House district maps faced their first court challenge today with attorneys representing voters arguing the map violates the state's ban on partisan gerrymandering. Judge did not say when he would rule. President Trump will be back in the US Tonight after wrapping up a two day summit in Beijing with China's President Xi where discussions were unexpectedly dominated by talk about Taiwan.
