The president says he's directed his team to fire Erica McIntarfer, the commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics that is the agency in charge of producing monthly jobs figures. Today's report showed weaker than expected hiring last month and drastically rev downward the number of jobs gained the previous two months. In a social media post, President Trump said numbers should not be manipulated for political purposes. MacIntarfer was nominated by former President Biden and confirmed to the roll by the Senate last year.

Fire officials in Ocean City, Maryland, say the carbon monoxide alarm that went off at the Ashore resort and beach club resulted in multiple evacuations. Thirteen people were evaluated and four were taken to a hospital with elevated levels of carbon monoxide in their blood. An investigation to determine the source of the gas exposure is underway with the Ocean City building inspectors, the local gas company and the fire marshal's office looking into it. Tonya J. Texas is the latest state to restrict student cell phone use in school. Governor Greg Abbott at a school in Amarillo today ceremonially signing a bill that passed in June banning the use of smartphones and watches during the school day. He says school districts can work out their own implementation and consequences.
