See you in September. That's what Senate Democrats are saying as they left for recess before voting on dozens of the president's nominees. Fox's Madeleine Rivera in Washington.

The Senate held a rare weekend session Saturday, hoping they can come up with a deal to advance some of President President Trump's nominees. Senate Democrats wanted the White House to unfreeze federal funding to pass a small batch of the president's non controversial nominees. But the president thought Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was going too far. He told Republicans not to accept the offer, saying it is political extortion by any other name. Tell Schumer, who was under tremendous political pressure from within his own party, the radical left lunatics, to go to hell. Senate Majority Leader John Thune says while there were many offers made between him and Schumer, Democrats were too dug in. The Senate ended up holding rapid fire votes on seven nominees before leaving Washington until September.

Senate Minority Leader Schumer said the president threw in the towel. Instead of making a deal, the president has extended the deadline for nations around the world to come up with trade deals.

Even some of the president's key allies on Capitol Hill want to see the tariff issue settled quickly. Trade deals with some of the US's largest trading partners, Canada, Mexico, China and India remain uncertain. After securing a major trade deal in principle with the 27 nation European Union, Friday's jobs report showed only 73,000 added in July, well below expectations. President Trump responded by firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics nominated by Joe Biden in 2023.
