Someone is missing. I'm Daria Albinger, Fox News. President Trump travels to Alaska next week to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. They're trying to put together a deal to end Russia's war with Ukraine. Fox's Lucas Tomlinson at the White House says it could include swapping territory.
Lucas Tomlinson
It's not clear what territory would be swapped. Russia occupies about 20% of Ukraine and Ukraine only controls about 30 square miles of Kursk after it launched an incursion into Russia last year. Some think Putin agreed to Alaska's so his plane is in shot down while flying elsewhere. Some Eastern Europeans are afraid this summit is heading to another Munich like moment before World War II. Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky left out of the talks, ruled out ceding any land to Russia.

Ukraine, of course, must agree to a deal. But President Zelensky isn't going to be there. Putin has declined to meet with him. Texas Democratic lawmakers are still out of state. They're trying to avoid voting on a plan to redistrict the state's congressional districts. It would flip five Democratic districts. Republican Fox's Madeline Rivera in Washington.

Democrats aren't showing any signs of coming back for the special session despite Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's actions to ramp up the consequences. In his lawsuit to remove 13 Dems from office. Paxton says these cowards deliberately sabotaged the constitutional process and violated the oath they swore to uphold. Their out of state rebellion cannot go unchecked and the business of tex crisis must go on. Still, many Duns remain holed up in blue states, including Massachusetts, New York, Illinois and California.

Governor Greg Abbott says the Democrats who left the state could be expelled or arrested. Police in London arrested about 150 people. They're accused of intentionally violating a new law that bans support for a pro Palestinian group. The organization has been declared a terrorist organization. America's listening to Fox News.

The United States attorney general is investigating the New York State attorney general for allegedly violating President Trump's civil rights. Two well placed sources familiar with the probe tell Fox News that Letitia James and her office have been subpoenaed as part of a sweeping probes into her professional and personal dealings. First, a grand jury investigation underway in Albany, New York, ordered by Attorney General Pam Bondi related to Trump's alleged deprivation of rights, meaning someone in a position of legal authority violating someone else's constitutional or legal rights. Bondi personally signed off on the probe. Recently, we've learned James and her office.

The GBI has identified the suspected shooter as the 30 year old Patrick Joseph White. He has died. The DeKalb county police officer who died is 33 year old David Rose and he leaves behind a wife, two children and a third child on the way. The Atlanta police chief says officers found Rose critically hurt at the shooting scene not long after the first 911 call regarding an active shooter. Rose was rushed to the nearby Emory Hospital where he later died. Now, when officers found Rose, they heard gunshots coming from inside a nearby CVS and they found the suspected shooter on on the second floor. The shooting prompted lockdowns at the cdc, Emory University and nearby schools and daycares. Officials told the community to run and hide.

Fox News Hourly Update: 4PM ET August 9, 2025 – Detailed Summary
Released on August 9, 2025, the Fox News Hourly Update for 4PM ET provides an in-depth look into significant national and international developments. Hosted by Daria Albinger, the episode covers a range of pressing topics from geopolitics and state politics to legal investigations and tragic local incidents. Below is a comprehensive summary of the key points discussed.
Daria Albinger opens the episode by highlighting a major international event: "President Trump travels to Alaska next week to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. They're trying to put together a deal to end Russia's war with Ukraine." [00:02]
The summit aims to negotiate an end to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with discussions potentially involving territorial concessions. Lucas Tomlinson, reporting from the White House, provides further insight: "It's not clear what territory would be swapped. Russia occupies about 20% of Ukraine and Ukraine only controls about 30 square miles of Kursk after it launched an incursion into Russia last year." [00:19]
Speculation surrounds Putin's true intentions, with some believing the summit may be a ruse to downplay military actions: "Some think Putin agreed to Alaska's so his plane is in shot down while flying elsewhere." There are apprehensions among Eastern Europeans that this meeting could mirror the infamous Munich Agreement before World War II, potentially leading to unfavorable outcomes.
A critical point of contention is the exclusion of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky from the talks. Albinger notes: "Ukraine must agree to a deal. But President Zelensky isn't going to be there. Putin has declined to meet with him." This absence raises questions about the legitimacy and enforceability of any potential agreement.
Transitioning to state politics, Albinger reports on the ongoing political maneuvers in Texas: "Texas Democratic lawmakers are still out of state. They're trying to avoid voting on a plan to redistrict the state's congressional districts. It would flip five Democratic districts." [00:45]
Madeline Rivera, reporting from Washington, delves deeper into the impasse: "Democrats aren't showing any signs of coming back for the special session despite Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's actions to ramp up the consequences." [01:07] Rivera explains that AG Paxton has filed a lawsuit aiming to remove 13 Democratic lawmakers from office, accusing them of deliberately sabotaging the constitutional process.
Governor Greg Abbott has taken a hard stance, stating that absent Democrats "could be expelled or arrested." This tension underscores the polarized political climate in Texas, with many Democrats defying the efforts and remaining in their respective 'blue states' such as Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, and California.
Daria Albinger introduces a significant legal development: "The Justice Department's launched a grand jury investigation into New York's Attorney General Letitia James." [02:16]
David Spunt provides detailed coverage: "The United States attorney general is investigating the New York State attorney general for allegedly violating President Trump's civil rights." [02:24] According to Spunt, sources familiar with the probe indicate that Letitia James and her office have been subpoenaed as part of extensive investigations into both her professional and personal activities.
The investigation includes a grand jury in Albany, ordered by Attorney General Pam Bondi, concerning Trump’s alleged deprivation of rights—a serious accusation implying abuse of power. Additionally, James faces scrutiny in matters related to the tobacco giant R.J. Reynolds. Albinger further emphasizes the severity by stating: "Letitia James and her office are accused of engaging in political warfare that targeted then-citizen Donald Trump in court." [03:01]
A somber report follows regarding a fatal shooting incident: "A man suspected of fatally shooting a police officer outside the CDC headquarters has been identified." [03:01] Madison Scarpino provides a comprehensive account of the event:
“The GBI has identified the suspected shooter as the 30-year-old Patrick Joseph White. He has died. The DeKalb county police officer who died is 33-year-old David Rose and he leaves behind a wife, two children and a third child on the way.” [03:23]
Officer Rose was found critically injured at the scene shortly after the initial 911 call about an active shooter. Despite swift medical intervention at Emory Hospital, Officer Rose did not survive. The suspects were located within a nearby CVS store during a lockdown that also affected the CDC, Emory University, and local schools and daycares. Authorities issued urgent instructions for the community to "run and hide." The motives behind this tragic crime remain unknown, as Albinger concludes: "The motives in the crime are still unknown." [04:07]
