Controversy in the Capitol. I'm Tom Graham. FOX News. Protesting in Washington. Reaction after President Trump pledged to federalize law enforcement in the nation's capital, deploying.

The National Guard to help re establish law, order and public safety in Washington, D.C. and they're going to be allowed to do their job properly.

The move follows high profile crimes. Fox's Alexandria Hoff.

The president said that crime is directly impacting the function of the federal government. Therefore, it is his job to do something about that. And he did today by invoking Section 740 of D.C. s home rule. What that allows the president to do is take control of the city's police department under emergency conditions for a certain amount of time. So for now, the justice department will run D.C. s Metropolitan Police Force. Well, D.C. s Attorney General, he's disputing all of this by saying the administration's actions are unprecedented, unnecessary and unlawful. There is no crime emergency in the District of Columbia. Violent crime in D.C. reached historic 30 year lows last year and is down another 20%, 26% so far this year.

We are being told by county officials that there's possible entrapment. So they are searching through the rubble and trying to find anybody who remains after this explosion that happened at the US Steel Clairton Coke Works factory just before 11am this is the largest coke manufacturing facility in the United States. And county officials said about the status of the quote, the status of those individuals is not known at this time. Emergency services is coordinating with all local agencies. The Allegheny County Health Department warning those who live within one mile of the factory to stay indoors, close all windows and doors and also set your H VAC system to recirculate at least one person dead.

House holding a special session, attempting to get a quorum together as Republicans push a congressional redistricting plan. But many Democrats, state lawmakers remain out of state, attempting to block a vote by their absence. Fox's Brooke Taylor is in Austin.

These Democrats haven't been shy about this. They've been on camera. We've heard press conference after press conference as they remain in these blue states backed by their governors saying that they refuse to come here. They want to wait this out until the end of the two week special session. We have arrest warrants that were issued, the Texas House speaker and the attorney general working to enforce those in California and Illinois. They've tried to take legal action to have them removed from office. We even have the FBI on the ground trying to assist in tracking them down now.

Texas GOP redistricting plan could potentially give Republicans an additional five U.S. house seats. New York City Democratic mayoral nominees are on doing a tour of the five boroughs campaigning against President Trump.

Zorahdani launched an anti Trump tour where he'll visit all five boroughs in five days just to attack Trump. He was asked what he would do as mayor if President Trump sent National Guard troops to New York City like he's doing in Washington, D.C. donald Trump does not respond well to cowardice, to collaboration. He requires a response that showcases the ability to fight back. New York's Democratic governor Kathy Hochul has yet to endorse Mamdani, appeared at a parade with him, but is still walking a tightrope.
