A shutdown with no solution. I'm Tom Graham, FOX News. One week into the government shutdown and the finger pointing continues.
Mike Johnson
It is regrettable and sad and real pain is being felt by real people because of these political shenanigans.
Tom Graham
Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson wants a clean spending bill to end the shutdown. Democrats, though, remain dug in with their demands.
Ryan Schmelz
Democrats have remained firm on including a permanent extension of Affordable Care act tax credits as part of a deal to reopen the government. Republicans have said the issue should be dealt with separately and the tax credits need to be reformed. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries was asked by Fox News Radio if reforming the program is on the table.
Hakeem Jeffries
What I'm saying is that we have an open mind as it relates to an extension of the Affordable Care act tax credits based on the merits of what is presented in good faith.
Ryan Schmelz
The subsidies impact about 22 million people who Democrats say will see a significant increase in premiums if the program isn't extended by the end of the year. On Capitol Hill, Ryan Schmelz, FOX News.

Thousands of government workers remain in limbo with mass furloughs during the shutdown. And now President Trump is suggesting some will not get back pay when the government reopens.
Jared Halpern
Some, but not all federal workers sidelined by the government shutdown should receive back pay. President Trump says for the most part.
Donald Trump
We'Re going to take care of our people. There are some people that really don't deserve to be taken care of and we'll take care of them in a different way.
Jared Halpern
The president says he'll follow federal law on paying workers impacted by the shutdown. But a memo from the White House budget office argues back pay is not guaranteed is part of 2019 legislation signed by President Trump. Congress has approved back pay provisions following previous shutdowns. At the White House, Jared Halpern, FOX News.

President Trump hosting Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the White House today. The two leaders discussing their mutual border.
Donald Trump
Canada's worked hard and they've done a much better job than in the past. We have very few people coming in through our southern border too. We, we've worked with Canada and we've worked with Mexico. So we've made it a lot better.
Tom Graham
Both sides have worked a crackdown on fentanyl being smuggled into their countries. Today, October 7, mark two years since the attacks on Israel that prompted the war in Gaza. Negotiations are underway between Hamas and Israeli leaders to end the fighting.
Trey Yinx
Two years ago we were in southern Israel along the Gaza border as thousands of terrorists infiltrated into the country. On that terrible day, nearly 1200 people were killed and 240 taken hostage. We know that 48 of them still remain in Hamas captivity. American led peace talks started yesterday in Egypt aimed at reaching an agreement by the end of the week. If the deal progresses, all of the remaining captives would be exchanged for 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences and 1700 Gazans arrested since the beginning of the war. Over the weekend, President Trump called on the Israelis to immediately stop bombing Gaza as the ceasefire talks progress.

And fox's Trey Yinx in Tel Aviv. Pope Leo, the first foreign trip has been announced.
Jonathan Savage
Pope Leo the 14th will visit Turkey and Lebanon later this year. The six day trip begins on November 30th. It'll include a pilgrimage to Iznik in Turkey to mark the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, the first ecumenical council. Leo's predecessor, Pope Francis, had planned to visit Turkey but died before he could make the trip. The first American born pope made no secret of a desire to complete Francis plans. Pope Leo is expected to use the journey to speak about the plight of Christians in the Middle East.
