With the federal government shutdown now into its 38th day on this Friday morning, Senate Majority Leader John Thune says he's got a plan to get Democrats on board then the government shutdown. Thune telling his colleagues Thursday his stopgap funding bill will fund the government until January and provide a full year of funding for veterans and food assistance programs. House Speaker Mike Johnson, however, telling reporters he cannot commit to holding a vote and extending pandemic era Obamacare subsidies, which are set to expire at the end of this year. Democrats have made that a core requirement for their support. The Senate so far has voted down a continuing resolution 14 times. Travelers are bracing for chaos as today the flights are being reduced at the country's busiest airports because of the shutdown. Fox's Jessica Rosenthal explains the FAA has.

From Joint Base Andrews spokesperson confirming multiple people fell ill after an individual opened a suspicious package Thursday. Those people were evaluated and treated by medical personnel and were later determined to be in stable condition and released. The building and a connecting building were evacuated. US strikes on drug boats can continue after Senate Republicans block an effort to end President Trump's authority to authorize the strikes.

A group of bipartisan senators is trying to prevent President Trump from pursuing his air campaign targeting alleged drug boats in South America. A Senate resolution seeks to force President Trump to get congressional approval for further airstrikes known as Authorization for the Use of Military Force. Quote to terminate the use of United States Armed forces for hostilities within or against Venezuela unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war. The Secretaries of state and war sought to reassure senators that the Trump team is on solid legal ground and and isn't planning imminent land strikes inside Venezuela. The top Democrat on the Intelligence Committee, Senator Mark Warner, says President Biden missed a chance to force Maduro from power back in summer 2024.
