Adrian Gonzalez is charged with 29 counts of child abandonment or endangerment. The former Uvalde School police officer was one of the first officials to respond to the 2022 mass shooting at Robb elementary where a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers. While hundreds of local, state and federal law enforcement officers responded to the scene, officials waited more than an hour to confront and kill the gu. Prosecutors allege Gonzalez placed lives in imminent danger by failing to engage, distract or delay the shooter and did not follow his active shooter training.

After allegations of fraud in Minnesota, the Trump administration is rolling back a Biden era rule about federal child care payments.

The Health and Human Services Department says states should pay out federal child care funds based on actual attendance, not just enrollment at a facility. And states will no longer have to disperse funding. Upfront payments can be made after the child care is provided. Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Jim o' Neill says in a statement. Paying providers up front based on paper enrollment instead of actual attendance invites abuse in addition facilities with pre existing contracts with states will not be prioritized over others that parents with childcare vouchers want to use.
