On Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Mark Wayne Mullen discussed the decision not to allow a Somali referee a visa. While refusing to discuss specifics, Mullen said,
we're not going to allow people that have criminal or maybe perceived to be have criminal ties to come into this country. I don't care what your situation is.
The secretary added that FIFA was made aware why anyone was denied and that careful consideration was given to every situation.
If there was any country we wasn't going to allow in here, Iran would probably be the reason why we wouldn't allow them in here. But we did and we worked closely with the individuals with restrictions.
Mullen said the government cleared as many
people as possible, but some people just can't clear.

Six time major champion Phil Mickelson has reportedly been kicked out of a San Diego golf club over allegations that he made inappropriate contact with a female employee. Golf Digest reports that Mickelson is no longer welcome at the Farms Golf Club where he's been a member for decades after he allegedly approached a woman in the clubhouse this spring and made non consensual physical contact with her. A spokesperson for Mickelson telling Golf Digest quote, any misunderstanding has been cleared up. Phil continues to attend to a family health matter.
