The package passed the House Thursday without any Democratic support. 22 Republicans also voted against it over cost concerns. The package adds $45 billion for border wall construction and another $45 billion for detention facilities. It extends tax cuts, which were set to expire, and creates new deductions on money Americans earn from Social Security benefits, overtime and tips. Democrats say the bill is a bust and that new work requirements for Medicaid and food stamp recipients will leave millions of Americans scrambling for support.

A massive explosion at a Northern California fireworks warehouse sends a fireball into the sky and giant plumes of smoke that could be seen for miles days after the detonation. The cause remains under investigation. Authorities on Friday reported finding human remains and will work over the weekend to identify seven people who were previously reported unaccounted for. There's also the risk of hazardous chemicals and unexploded fireworks. Many Bay Area cities stored their Fourth of July celebrations at this very warehouse. Those shows are now postponed or cancelled. San Jose's mayor says they're shifting to a drone show. At least three other explosions rocked California this week. In the Los Angeles area, one man was killed after fireworks detonated in a garage.
