Fox News Hourly Update – 6AM ET, July 31, 2025
In today's episode of the Fox News Hourly Update, listeners are brought up to speed with the latest developments across a spectrum of critical issues, ranging from significant criminal arrests and international trade deals to aviation incidents and immigration policies. Hosted by Dave Anthony and featuring reports from correspondents like Sue Guzman and Kevin Yuretsky, the update encapsulates the pulse of current events shaping the nation and beyond.
The morning update opens with a chilling report from Dave Anthony regarding a resolved manhunt in Arkansas. After a five-day search, Arkansas State Police successfully apprehended James Andrew McGann, 28, from Springdale, who has been charged with two counts of capital murder. The victims, Clinton David Brink and Kristen Amanda Brink, tragically lost their lives at Devil's Den State Park during a hiking trip on Saturday. Their young daughters, aged 7 and 9, miraculously survived the ordeal and are now under the care of family members.
Dave Anthony encapsulates the gravity of the situation, stating, “They got him. I'm Dave Anthony.” at [00:02]. State Police Colonel Mike Hager confirmed the arrests, emphasizing the swift closure of a harrowing case that shook the local community.
Moving from ground to air, Sue Guzman reports a harrowing incident involving a Delta Airlines flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam. The aircraft encountered severe turbulence mid-flight, leading to an emergency landing in Minneapolis that resulted in 25 passengers being injured. Passengers recounted experiencing sudden and violent drops, with flight attendants and serving carts being tossed through the cabin. A passenger detailed the ordeal, highlighting, “the plane made the sudden drop as flight attendants were in the aisle with serving carts sending them into the air” at [00:02].
This incident raises pressing questions about flight safety and the preparedness of airlines to handle unexpected turbulence, underscoring the need for enhanced measures to protect passengers and crew alike.
A significant portion of the update delves into the complexities of U.S. international trade policies. President Donald Trump announced impending tariffs on imports, stirring global economic conversations. Notably, South Korea has responded by finalizing a trade deal that introduces a 15% tariff, which is reportedly lower than the figure President Trump had previously threatened. On Truth Social, President Trump articulated his strategy, stating, “South Korea will buy American energy and give the US $350 billion in investments in the country that president says he would select himself” at [00:02].
Furthermore, the administration is scrutinizing trade relations with India, imposing a 25% tariff due to what President Trump described as “onerous trade barriers.” He also criticized the BRICS nations—highlighting India’s membership—as a coalition that undermines U.S. economic interests, asserting it as “an attack on the dollar.”
In response to these developments, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has indicated a delay in cutting interest rates, attributing the decision to concerns that increased tariffs could exacerbate inflation. Powell remarked, “Expecting tariffs to lead to more inflation” [Timestamp Unspecified], reflecting the interconnectedness of trade policies and monetary strategies.
The update transitions into the contentious arena of immigration enforcement. Despite opposition from Democrats, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is intensifying its efforts to apprehend individuals residing illegally in the United States. Border Czar Tom Homan asserted, “We are prioritizing worst to worse in this country. We're removing national security threats every day” [Timestamp Unspecified]. To bolster their workforce, ICE has launched an aggressive recruitment campaign, offering enticing incentives such as $50,000 signing bonuses, student loan repayment, and enhanced retirement benefits, funded by the recently passed “big beautiful bill”.
However, these efforts are encountering legal obstacles. Kevin Yuretsky reports that a new lawsuit has been filed against the Department of Homeland Security after the Maryland congressional delegation was denied entry to a Baltimore ICE processing facility. The coalition of Democratic lawmakers contends that DHS's policy, which mandates a week's notice before any visit, unjustly restricts their congressional oversight and access, thereby impeding their legislative responsibilities.
In military news, the update covers the somber case of Chamley Painter, an American service member who remains missing at sea. Assigned to the USS George Washington, Painter is presumed dead after the Navy ceased search operations. He is believed to have possibly gone overboard while the ship was navigating north of Australia. The Navy has withheld his name to protect the privacy of next of kin, as reported by Fox's Chamley Painter. This incident marks the ship’s first patrol following its return to Japan in 2024, highlighting the inherent risks faced by service members even during routine assignments.
Concluding the update, Chris DeMaio provides an economic snapshot, indicating a positive trend in Wall Street futures. “Stock futures are rising,” DeMaio reports, reflecting investor optimism amidst the day’s unfolding events. This uptick suggests a resilience in the markets despite the ongoing geopolitical and domestic challenges presented earlier in the broadcast.
In summary, today's Fox News Hourly Update navigates through a spectrum of pressing issues—from the resolution of a tragic double homicide and a concerning aviation incident to the intricate dynamics of international trade and stringent immigration policies. Coupled with updates on military affairs and economic indicators, the episode delivers a comprehensive overview, ensuring listeners are well-informed on matters that shape the present and future landscape.
