Place for them to visit and stay. Breaking quorum because they're heroes. GOP Texas governor GRE Abbott is trying to remove some of those Democrats from office, telling Fox News Sunday these lawmakers have abandoned their seat because we are incapable of conducting business for the people of Texas because they have fled. This is the most un Texan thing we've ever seen. It'll likely be emotional in court today in Maryland, where Rachel Morin's family can testify at her killer's sentencing. The mother of five was murdered while out jogging in 2023 by a man in the US illegally. Victor Martinez Hernandez was convicted in April in her murder and faces life in prison with no chance at par role as the Trump administration keeps adding more illegal immigration detention facilities. The construction of Camp East Montana at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, began mid July in response to a request from Homeland Security. So far, the army has spent $232 million on the tent city at Fort Bliss. The U.S. army oversees the 1.2 billion contract for the 5,000 bed ICE facility. In January, President Trump announced migrants would be sent to Guantanamo Bay, where Defense Secretary Hegseth promised the Marines could build a 30,000 bed facility. Those plans were halted when ICE standards were not being met for housing migrants at the Pentagon Jennifer griffin, FOX News.

President Donald Trump has been vocal about his plans to "make the nation's capital great again." In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump criticized D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, acknowledging her efforts but asserting that "crime numbers have gotten worse and the city only gets dirtier and less attractive" (00:02). Emphasizing his commitment to improving the capital, Trump also issued an order to relocate homeless individuals out of Washington D.C., aiming to address both crime and the city's aesthetic appeal.
Contrary to Trump's assertions, D.C.'s Mayor Muriel Bowser claims that violent crime has actually decreased. However, President Trump is escalating federal involvement to further tackle crime in the capital. Madeline Rivera reported that "the FBI is dispatching more than 100 agents to help local police stop crime and carjackings" (00:28). Additional federal agencies, including the ATF, DEA, and U.S. Park Police, have been mobilized to support local law enforcement efforts. Furthermore, there is potential for the National Guard to be deployed later today, reinforcing the administration's stance on ensuring public safety in Washington D.C.
a. Engagement with Intel's CEO
The Wall Street Journal revealed that President Trump is scheduled to meet with Intel's CEO following his recent Truth Social post demanding the immediate resignation of Intel's CEO, Pat Gelsinger, due to alleged ties with China (00:50). This move underscores Trump's ongoing efforts to address national security concerns related to foreign influence in critical industries.
b. Upcoming Trump-Putin Summit in Alaska
A significant diplomatic event is on the horizon as President Trump prepares to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. The primary objective of this summit is to persuade Putin to cease military actions in Ukraine. Vice President Vance shared insights from his conversation with Trump on Fox's "Sunday Morning Futures," stating, "There's no way to know the outcome of these talks" (01:08). Jason Chaffetz added, "Maybe this works out, maybe it doesn't. But it's worth the effort, it's worth trying" (01:16). Vance further emphasized the administration's goal: "The goal is to find a settlement the sides can live with in peace" (01:20).
Colonel Scott from Fox News highlighted that European foreign ministers are convening to discuss the Trump-Putin peace initiative. The consensus among these ministers is clear: "there's no way to get a peace deal unless Ukraine is part of those Trump-Putin talks" (01:26). This stance underscores the international community's support for Ukraine's involvement in any negotiations aimed at resolving the conflict.
Israel is intensifying its military operations against Hamas, with plans to target Gaza City next. U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee expressed a firm stance on the matter, stating, "The next move really is one that Hamas has to make. They're either going to have to walk away, disarm and let the hostages go, or they're going to have to face the consequences" (01:42). A recent Israeli strike in Gaza resulted in the deaths of several journalists, including an Al Jazeera reporter whom Israelis allege was a Hamas commander—a claim that Al Jazeera has denied. This incident highlights the ongoing tensions and the complexities of media coverage in conflict zones.
A group of Democratic lawmakers from Texas is currently out of state, aiming to block a vote on congressional redistricting. This tactic is intended to secure five additional House seats for Republicans in the 2026 elections. Some of these lawmakers have relocated to Illinois, where Governor J.B. Pritzker assures, "We're providing them a safe haven" (03:22). Vice President Vance referred to their actions by saying, "Providing them a safe haven" (03:22), while GOP Texas Governor Greg Abbott criticized the Democrats, stating, "They have abandoned their seat because we are incapable of conducting business for the people of Texas because they have fled" (03:25). Abbott further remarked, "This is the most un Texan thing we've ever seen," emphasizing the political tensions surrounding the redistricting efforts.
a. Rachel Morin's Case
In an emotional development, the family of Rachel Morin is set to testify in court during the sentencing of her murderer, Victor Martinez Hernandez. Morin, a mother of five, was tragically killed in 2023 while jogging by Hernandez, an individual residing in the U.S. illegally. Hernandez was convicted in April and now faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, bringing some closure to a heartbreaking case.
b. Expansion of Immigration Detention Facilities
The Trump administration is accelerating the construction of new illegal immigration detention facilities across the country. Notable projects include "Alligator Alcatraz" in Florida and the "Speedway Slammer" in Indiana. The most significant expansion is underway in Texas with the construction of Camp East Montana at Fort Bliss in El Paso. Jennifer Griffin reported that, as of mid-July, the Army has invested $232 million into this "tent city," overseeing a $1.2 billion contract for a 5,000-bed ICE facility (04:16). Initially, President Trump announced plans to house migrants at Guantanamo Bay, with Defense Secretary Hegseth promising a 30,000-bed facility built by the Marines. However, these plans were halted due to ICE not meeting the necessary housing standards at the Pentagon.
Stock futures are on the rise today, continuing the positive momentum from last week that saw the Nasdaq reach a record high. This uptick reflects investor confidence and optimistic projections for the market's performance in the near term (04:56).
Dave Anthony concluded the newscast by reiterating the positive movement in the stock market. While promotional segments for related podcasts were included towards the end, they were omitted from this summary to focus solely on the news content.
