Into session today with lawmakers returning from a month long August recess. Congress will have little time to work with to avoid a government shutdown with a funding deadline September 30th. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries are requesting a meeting with Speaker Johnson and Senate Leader Thune this week to discuss funding the government.

More than 100 Trump nominees still not confirmed, delayed by Democrats, prompting some Republicans to call for changes to the confirmation process to fast track nominee approval. And the GOP led Congress will also consider extending President Trump's D.C. crime crackdown that includes National Guard troops and federal agents on patrol. Want to make sure that President Trump has more latitude in just taking these kinds of actions. If he wants to do it for more than 30 days, I fully support those efforts because these have succeeded.

FBI Director Kash Patel says there have now been 1600 arrests since the administration began its crime crackdown in D.C. he says over the last few days alone there were 19 arrests involving the FBI, eight gun recoveries and seven drug seizures. The president is set to give an announcement today at 2pm local time. We will see if he has anything more to say regarding his threats to step in Chicago.

That's fox's Madeline Rivera. The president has claimed crime is totally out of control in Chicago, considering sending troops there, which Illinois Governor J.B. pritzker says would be illegal and he'd go to court to try to block. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, also a Democrat, also does not want federal intervention.
