New Jersey Governor Mikey Sherrill at a press conference calling for those demonstrations to remain peaceful.

I urge those protesting outside of Delaney hall to bring the temperature down so we can focus on the detainees and their families. So comply with the lawful orders from local and state law enforcement and let advocates, faith leaders and members of this community continue their work.

Those protests have been going on for days and have led to several violent confrontations. Six people were arrested Friday night after clashing with authorities. Details are emerging after a deadly bus crash in Virginia Friday where the driver hit several cars, killing five people and injuring 40 others. Five of those hurt are still hospitalized. Open drug use and homelessness on the streets of L A has become a key issue in the mayor's race. Bass homelessness is down in her term but promises to do, quote, an absolute overhaul and reconstruction of the homeless system if she's reelected. Now when Bass was asked about polls showing the race tightening between herself, Spencer Pratt and Councilwoman Nithya Rahman, Bass said some of the polls show her in. Mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt is coming off a national media blitz in New York City where he told FOX News that he does not care about celebrity endorsements and will tackle illegal homeless camping.
