The 41 year old had come out of a nearly six year retirement after having her knee replaced and already beat the odds to qualify for the Olympics, but then tore her ACL just over a week before the Games in a different crash. Somehow Vonn still found a way to compete, but just a few seconds into the run, her pole clipped a gate before a jump, sending her tumbling after she was airlifted out. An American did still take gold in the event with Breezy Johnson winning Team USA's first medal of the Games and becoming only the second US Woman ever to win Olympic downhill gold after Von did it in 2010.
