And in that speech in North Carolina, Vance called out Gavin Newsom by name, California's governor. Well, the Democrat replied to the Post on X that he won't be going to hell. But when listening to Vance, Newsom wrote, he feels like he's already there. A meeting at the White House could get contentious later this morning. Fox's Peter Doocy's there.

That's Turkey's President Erdogan, who could be pressed to stop buying Russian oil, something President Trump called out NATO allies like Turkey for continuing to do, which he says he keeps funding the Ukraine war. Now the president canceled a meeting that would have been today with Democratic congressional leaders as a government shutdown looms unless lawmakers approve new funding by Tuesday.

The White House's Office of Management and Budget sent out a memo saying agencies need to have ready reduction in force plans. Agencies were told to identify programs that'll lose funding October 1st. Workers wouldn't just be furloughed for however long a shutdown may last. They'd be gone permanently.

The survey of likely voters has state Assemblyman Zoran Mamdani out front with 47%, annex Governor Andrew Cuomo second at 29%. Republican Curtis Sliwa and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams follow with 11% and 7%, respectively. Mamdani is at 60% or better with those who say they're very liberal with women under 45 and voters in general under 35. Cuomo fares better with Jewish voters and white voters age 45 and up top city problem respondents want addressed 25% say crime, 20% say the cost of living in New York City.
