This is a FOX News alert. I'm Darielle Albinger. The Fourth of July celebrations are on hold, at least for a while in the nation's capital. The National Mall has been evacuated as strong storms gather near the Washington, D.C. area and are expected to move in very soon. And this is all ahead of President Trump's July 4th speech. At this point, we are told the speech is still on, but for the time being, the celebrations on the National Mall are on hold. A parade of tall ships from around the world made their way through New York harbor today to mark the nation's semi sesquicentennial. Vice President Vance was there to greet them and the crowds who came to see him.

While the Continental Congress met in Philadelphia to ratify the Declaration of Independence, General Washington was right here in Manhattan, peering out on this beautiful land and beautiful sea. His attention was fixed on the horizon, watching for sails of the most powerful Navy.

It was the largest fleet of the world's tall ships and grey hull military ships to sail past the Statue of Liberty. While the big celebrations are expected later tonight, mainly the big fireworks. But President Trump got a jump start on things last night at Mount Rushmore.

Today is the start of the round of 16 here in Philadelphia. It'll be Paraguay versus France, David versus Goliath. Paraguay upsetting Germany. Can they take down two heavyweights in a row. You know, last night, Cape Verde, the Cinderella story so far of this World cup, the smallest nation to ever make the knockout stage, almost defeating the defending champions Lionel Messi and Argentina. Cape Verde's Sydney Cabral with may goal of the World cup to tie it, but ultimately losing three to two in extra time. Now as for the United States, the men's team is preparing for its game against Belgium 8pm Monday night. A win sends the U.S. to the quarterfinals for just the second time ever.

France beat Paraguay one to nil. That was Fox's Brian Yanes reporting. America 250 celebrations are underway coast to coast, including block parties which are big celebrations this year. This one's at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

This is the only official America 250 event happening at a military bas. So it's really pretty special because what better way to celebrate America than the men and women who defend it? So this place is going to be packed up when it kicks off. A Ferris wheel, lots of games here. And then we have lots of food trucks, delicious tacos. I could tell you it smells good out here. So these people who are coming are in for a treat. There's also going to be a military ceremony, a concert and a lot of fireworks. But really, what makes Fort Campbell so special, it's not about the celebration. It's the mission here and the of this place. The Post is home to some of the army's most elite units.
