The US embassy in Cambodia announces a $675,000 grant for programs to remove mines littering the countryside there. An estimated 4 to 6 million land mines and other unexploded munitions were left behind from decades of conflict. And nearly 20,000 people are reported to have been killed, 45,000 injured in explosions since the end of fighting in 1998. Soon after President Trump announced a federal aid freeze when he returned to office. The administration granted a waiver for $6.36 million in demining aid that had been scheduled to continue through November. This new funding is for mine clearing operations through next April.
