U.S. southern Command posted on X that intelligence confirmed the vessel was carrying illicit narcotics and transiting along a known narco trafficking route in the eastern Pacific. This marks the 22nd strike on suspected drug smuggling boats in the Caribbean and Pacific, bringing the total killed to 86.

Fox's Carmen Roberts is coming as the commander who ordered the double strike on a suspected drug boat off Venezuela in September appeared before members of Congress in a closed briefing as questions remain over why the boat was hit a second time. A Virginia grand jury has opted to not re indict New York Attorney General Letitia James.

The grand jury in Norfolk neither pursued nor handed up a second indictment against James. The decision came following a federal judge's dismissal of a previous mortgage fraud indictment brought against James back in October because the U.S. attorney was improperly appointed.
