The U.S. attorney in Western North Carolina says the suspect in a second stabbing on the light rail in Charlotte was an illegal alien twice deported.

Previously, the Honduran suspect in the stabbing of Kenyan Dobie on the light rail in Charlotte, Oscar Solorzano Garcia, has been charged by federal prosecutors with illegal re entry and with committing an act of violence on mass transportation. FBI Special Agent in charge Jim Barnacle said his priors include robbery and battery. He was deported for a second time in 2021.

A witness told police when Solorzano Garcia got onto the light rail, he appeared intoxicated, that he stabbed Dobie with a long knife in the chest. A man who died in 2019 has been identified as the suspect in three cold case murders. Toronto police say recent forensic testing and genetic genealogy has conclusively identified Kenneth Smith as the person who killed two women in the 1980s and a third woman in the 1990s. After over a year of public and private negotiations, a settlement was reached in the antitrust lawsuit filed against NASCAR by Cup Series teams Front row Motorsports and 2311 Racing, which is co owned by Michael Jordan.

A lot of the details are still being kept under wraps, but the big news is changes to charters, which guarantee team starting spots in races and shares of the prize money. The charters are now renewed on a contract basis, which teams argued gave NASCAR too much leverage, letting them offer take it or leave it deals to get some power back. The teams had been hoping to be able to acquire Evergreen Charters, something NASCAR had pushed back on. But in a joint statement, NASCAR says as part of the settlement it has now agreed to quote a form of.
