Seven time convicted felon Alfonso Talley appearing in court here in Cook county where a judge granted the latest request from prosecutors to deny Talley pretrial release as he awaits trial for a previous armed robbery and carjacking case in which last year. Prosecutors fiercely objected that Talley be released, though the same judge pointed to a law signed by Democrat Governor J.B. pritzker that ended cash bail in the state. Prosecutors say in April, Talley shot two police officers, killing one of them, 38 year old John Bartholomew. Talley's also due in court on that murder case this week in Chicago. named Bill Pulte, the head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, to be acting director of national intelligence, replacing Tulsi Gabbard, who resigned last month after revealing her husband has cancer. Lawmakers, including some Republicans like Senator John Cornyn of Texas, are questioning Pulte's qualifications, including his lack of national security experience. President Trump says Pulte will remain director of the Housing Finance Agency while holding down the acting DNI job. A permanent replacement for Gabbard requires Senate approval. There were more job openings than expected in late April.

It's a sign of resilience in the job market, though the Labor Department says hires and total separations both decreased. Job openings increased in professional and business services, but decreased in finance and insurance. The number and rate of layoffs and discharges was little changed. Also, the number of job openings for March was Revised up by 21,000 to 6.9 million. The monthly employment report for May is released on Friday.
