Activists say at least 2,000 people have died in demonstrations that began last month over the country's failing economy. Iran's attorney general has warned anyone taking, taking part in the protests will be considered an enemy of God, a charge that's punishable by the death penalty. The State Department urging U.S. citizens to leave Iran immediately and is advising them to consider departing by land to Turkey or Armenia if it's safe to do so. Prices rose in December at a modest 3.10of a percent as measured by the Consumer Price Index. Excluding food and energy, the increase was 0.2%. For the year ending in December, the CPI was up 2.2.7 matches the November number and is tied for the lowest inflation measured by the CPI since May. CPI was up 2.6% on an annual basis excluding food and energy. Both core readings came in below forecasts. The CPI has improved significantly from a peak of 9.1% in June of 2022.
