That's according to the Associated Press. Shoppers apparently stocked up earlier in the holiday season, leading to disappointing retail sales numbers in the month of September.

Economists were expecting a modest increase in retail sales for December. Instead, sales came in flat. No increase. Shoppers were spending more. The previous month. November retail sales increased by 0.6%, excluding autos. December sales also were flat. The national retail Federation says retail sales rose for all of last year, though higher income shoppers accounted for more purchases of discretionary items.
