A federal appeals court has upheld a decision by a civil jury requiring President Trump to pay more than $83 million to columnist E. Jean Carroll. The case stemming from the president's attacks on Carroll on social media after she accused him of sexual assault in the 1990s. A separate jury awarded Carroll $5 million in a 2023 sexual assault and defamation case. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other top Pentagon officials made an unannounced trip to Puerto Rico earlier today as the US Looks to beef up security in the Caribbean to combat drug trafficking.

Supreme Court's chief justice says President Trump can fire a member of the Federal Trade Commission for now.

The president said FTC member Rebecca Slaughter was fired in March. She sued last week. An appeals court said she could be reinstated to the rule because she needed to be fired for cause. But the Supreme Court's chief justice, John Roberts, has said the president's decision to fire her can hold for now pending litigation. Another Democratic FTC commissioner was fired. He also sued, but then he resigned from the commission and his case was dismissed. Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook is also suing the president over his effort to fire her. A terminal at London's Heathrow Airport has reopened after reports of hazardous material. The Metropolitan Police say rather, patients that were treated at Terminal 4 were not seriously injured and officers found no trace of any dangerous material. The departures area was closed for about three hours as police, firefighters and ambulance crews responded to the airport, apologized for the delays and said it was working to make sure all departures went off as planned.
