Violent crimes across the US in 2024 were down four and a half percent from 2023. That is the finding of the FBI as published today in their Uniform Crime Reporting summary. Property crimes dropped more than 8% from 23 to 24, while hate crimes incidents declined a percent and a half. But crimes against law enforcement officers rose sharply over the same time period, with 64 officers getting killed in the line of duty last year. 258 officers have been killed on the job over the past four years, and that's the most in a four year period.
