Prosecutors in Ventura county say the 53 year old former college professor was protesting the Israel Hamas war in support of Palestin when he hit Kessler, a Jewish counter protester, with a megaphone. Kessler fell back and hit his head on the pavement. He later died at a hospital. Al Naji also admitting to a special allegation that he personally inflicted great bodily injury and aggravating factors, that he used a weapon and the victim was particularly vulnerable.

New claims for unemployment benefits were weaker than expected in the latest reading for the week ending May 2, claims came in at 200,000 and continuing claims, those remaining on benefits declined to 1.76 million in the week ending April 25. Outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas also released its monthly report it says announced April job cuts increase 38% from March. Workplace expert Andy Challenger says technology companies are leading all industries in layoff announcements, and they often cite AI spend and innovation. The United States Postal Service is considering a rule change that would allow anyone to send handguns through the mail for the first time in nearly 100 years. The Department of Justice says allowing for the shipment of handguns will make it easier for lawful gun owners to transport their firearms.
