The House has passed a sweeping defense policy bill that authorizes $900 billion in military programs, including a pay raise for troops and an overhaul of how the Department of War buys weap measure next goes to the Senate. Even after the Federal Reserve cut its key interest rate for the third time in a row, President Trump says he still intends to replace Chair Jerome Powell.

Now able to come to the US without a visa might soon have to provide social media, email and family history details to the Department of Homeland Security. Customs and Border Protection is proposing collecting five years of social media data from travelers from about 40 European and Asian countries. Police in Frankfort, Kentucky released the name of the young man shot and killed at Kentucky State University yesterday.

National broadcaster said Wednesday it will boycott next year's Eurovision Song Contest because of discord over Israel's participation, joining four other countries in a walkout of the Pan Continental Music Competition. Broadcasters in Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland and Slovenia have previously told contest organizer the European Broadcasting Union that they will not take part in the contest in Vienna in May after organizers declined to expel Israel over its conduct of the war against Hamas in Gaza. The broadcaster said in a statement in part that given the public debate in this country, it is clear that neither joy nor peace will prevail regarding the participation.
