This is Julian Edelman from Games With Names. Football is back. That means it's tailgate time. And this season the only meat I'm going to grill is Dietz and Watson.
Ashanti Plummer
I'm loving the Black Angus Dietz dogs.
Commercial Announcer
They're flavor packed and you can tell they are made with the highest quality ingredients. Sundays just got a whole lot better. Visit deetsandwatson.com the right way to learn.
Ryan Howard
More about the deets difference.
Az Fudd
Hey everyone. Welcome back to another episode of FUD around and find out. I'm here with my co host Ashanti. What's up girl?
Ashanti Plummer
Hey, how you doing? I feel like every time we start I'm like, hey, I'm good girl.
Ryan Howard
No, I am.
Ashanti Plummer
I'm really good. I'm excited your season is rolling. I get to finally see, you know, all the hard work that you guys been putting in out there on the court. I got to go to a couple of your games so I'm doing great. I gotta figure out what I'm wearing for the next one. How about you?
Az Fudd
I'm also doing great. I obviously have not fully recovered. My voice has not recovered. I feel great, but my voice has been gone for like 10 days now. It's kind of insane. And this is the best it sounded in those 10 days. But yeah, I'm excited. The season's ramp. This is a big week for us. So I feel like I always just say I'm excited but I really am. I'm so excited. This is such a fun time.
Ashanti Plummer
Yeah. I mean all the bonding, all the hard work, all the practice. Now you get to play against, you know, not your teammates, other practice players.
Az Fudd
Like exactly.
Ashanti Plummer
Now you guys get to come together and whoop on other teams. So of course that's something.
Az Fudd
And I'm 23 now, so that's fun too.
Ashanti Plummer
It's your birthday. Yes. Happy birthday again. Well, by the time.
Az Fudd
Thank you again.
Ashanti Plummer
Your birthday did pass. You're 23. How are you feeling so wise in your Jordan year? What advice do you give to those 22 and youngers?
Az Fudd
Yeah, man, I remember those days like it was yesterday.
Ashanti Plummer
Like it was last week.
Az Fudd
Like it was a week ago. Literally a week ago.
Ashanti Plummer
What'd you do? What'd you do for your birthday?
Az Fudd
On my birthday, what did I do? Oh, it was, it was so exciting. I had a doctor's appointment, I had film session, I had practice, I had another film session. Then we had practice and you know, I got a good lift in, got some recovery and then I came to the cottage, which I don't know if I've said yet, but the cottage is what I call my grandparents house. They have a house in Connecticut right off campus. So I came to my grandparents house. My parents were here, they brought Stewie up, my little dog and they made me a birthday feast. I said, I don't know what I want. Make me something healthy and delicious. It was probably one of the best dinners I've had.
Ashanti Plummer
Oh, that's.
Az Fudd
That's so sweet.
Ashanti Plummer
That's solid. Listen, a good meal and you were treating your body as you were recovering. I mean, sounds like a solid birthday.
Az Fudd
And then I went home and my teammates sung to me and got me one of like my favorite like cleaner ice cream brands. So that was really sweet.
Ashanti Plummer
That's good. I'm glad you celebrated because I know you Miss Humble don't want to make it about me, but it was your day and you deserve to feel loved and special on that day. So I'm glad.
Az Fudd
Yeah, it was same day minus one, so it didn't get too crazy, but it was still special. Felt the love.
Ashanti Plummer
And then to finish off your birthday, even though it was the next day, you won. So, I mean, you won the day before, won the next day, you know, you winning.
Az Fudd
Exactly.
Ashanti Plummer
So we have a special guest coming on today.
Az Fudd
Yes, I'm super excited. Joining us today, we have the one and only Ryan Howard. Today we have a super special guest, Ryan Howard. Ryan, how are you?
Ryan Howard
I'm doing so good. How are you guys?
Az Fudd
Excited to have you on the pod.
Ryan Howard
Excited. Excited to be on the pod.
Az Fudd
So what have you been up to in the off season? What's that been like?
Ryan Howard
Pretty much just golfing. Golfing and working out. I've been golfing almost like every day since the season ended.
Az Fudd
It's a good combo. Where are you?
Ryan Howard
I'm in Atlanta right now. Or do you mean like the building?
Az Fudd
No, no, no.
Ryan Howard
That's okay.
Ashanti Plummer
Let's be safe. How'd you get into golfing?
Ryan Howard
It was just something that me and Leash started just to like, pastime. We've been doing it for about three years now. So we started after her first years here off season, and we've been doing ever since. So.
Az Fudd
So when you say you've been golfing, is that like you're going to a, what's it, a golf course? Is that what it's called, Golf range or like a topgolf type place?
Ryan Howard
No, you go to the courses.
Az Fudd
Okay. Wow, that's like real, real stuff right there.
Ashanti Plummer
Okay, Stephen, Tiger woods right now.
Az Fudd
Who's better at golfing? You? Yeah, I mean, I knew you were going to say that. That's how you should say, she's not.
Ashanti Plummer
Here to defend herself.
Ryan Howard
She would say it too. It's the truth.
Ashanti Plummer
So you just ended your WNBA season with the dream, Atlanta Dream. How are you feeling about that wrap up?
Ryan Howard
I mean, obviously nobody wants to end short of, you know, the end goal. I do feel like we kind of, we, we underachieved our own ourselves. Like, I feel like we definitely should have made it further than what we did. But, you know, you can't be too greedy with, you know, everything that you get. Like you don't get it all in one year. And, you know, I'm super excited for what's to come. Like, I think that we have a good chance to bring majority of our team back and, you know, just build on this. You know, we had a new coach, we had a new team, and, you know, I think we did a lot more than what Was even expected. You know, obviously, we did go out in the first round, but even to, you know, have a home game for me and, you know, being tied for second at the end of the regular season, I think that's a huge accomplishment in itself.
Ashanti Plummer
Those dream games look lit. Listen, I had friends go. I didn't get the opportunity to pop out, but I definitely want to make it for next year. I think you guys are so exciting to watch. Next year is new year, new slate, and you guys have another opportunity to, you know, achieve the goal this time, and I'm excited. It's going to be competitive and good.
Ryan Howard
Yeah, I agree. But you definitely have to get out. But you have to hurry because, you know, we got a small gym, so it'd be selling out fast.
Ashanti Plummer
I know that's right.
Ryan Howard
It gets packed in there, like, standing room only.
Ashanti Plummer
Oh, well, I'm jacking that. I know you now. I'm be like, excuse me. I know. Ms. Ryan, let me in.
Ryan Howard
I got you.
Az Fudd
You really would do that, too?
Ashanti Plummer
I would. I would.
Az Fudd
Ryan, is there anything you learned from this past season with the dream?
Ryan Howard
I think just being able to lean on, you know, who you have helping you. I know, like, in past years, the pressure is often, most of the times all on me. And so being able to have, you know, 11 other players with you that you can trust and that you can, you know, that will take it. Like, you don't have to ask. Like, they'll recognize that you have a lot of pressure, and they'll take that for you and, you know, weather the storm and help you get through it. And I think for me, personally, I think that really helped this year because I did have a down year. And so not having all of that extra pressure on top of, like, what I was battling myself, I think it definitely helped with our success and having that trust and having the confidence in the rest of my teammates, that's amazing.
Az Fudd
That's so important.
Ashanti Plummer
Why do you call it a down year?
Ryan Howard
I mean, I personally think that was my worst year in the league because I just wasn't consistent enough to my standards, and I wasn't performing the way that I felt I should have. You know, obviously, as a leader of the team, like, it is my team, I'm gonna take most of the, you know, blame. I'm gonna take all that on my own. And so I feel like if I would've had a better year, we probably would have gone farther, to be quite honest.
Ashanti Plummer
Mm. Well, listen, it takes more than one, but I understand having a standard for yourself. And, you know, feeling like you didn't live up to it. But listen, girl, we know about you. 2022, rookie of the year, three time all star, WNBA, all defensive team. You've been a bucket for as long as you've been. So I'm excited if you feel like this was a down year. I can't even imagine what next year is going to be like.
Az Fudd
So wait to touch on her being a bucket since we can remember. Do you remember? It was us, 2019, USA vassal tryouts. We met for the first time and I asked for a picture because I was a fan. I knew who you were and there was a picture. It was after I tore my acl. So I was there just watching tryouts. What were you there for? What were you trying out for?
Ryan Howard
2019 was. That was just U19's Thailand, I want to say.
Az Fudd
Okay, so if I was healthy, I could have played with you. Oh, I saw the picture too. That's crazy because.
Ryan Howard
Not because you came up. I mean, obviously I know you are too, but you asked me for a picture and I was like, what? Cause I'm like, you know, I'm just. I'm out here. Regular old person.
Az Fudd
Please.
Ashanti Plummer
Right? Regular.
Ryan Howard
All over the world.
Ashanti Plummer
Regular.
Az Fudd
Ryan and regular don't go together, but okay. Right.
Ryan Howard
They start the same letter, so I don't understand how they don't.
Az Fudd
They just don't. Just trust. They don't.
Ashanti Plummer
So, Ryan, what was your welcome to the league moment?
Ryan Howard
I think it was de' Erica busting my lip. It was. She was still in Vegas and we were playing them at home. It wasn't intentional. Like, we were both going for a rebound and like, she just came down and just busted it. So they go down on, like, my team goes down on offense. You know, I'm just standing down here on there, underneath the basketball. My lip is literally dripping. Refs are gone. So I'm like, hello. Like, I can't play. They come back down. But then also, like, I welcomed her to me, came back down on offense and I only got one hand, so she tries to, like, come down for the layup and I block it and then I. I block it and I get the ball. And my bet at the time was Erica Willer, and she's like pointing at me, pointing at the ref like, hey, we gotta stop it. But yeah, I had to get stitches that game and my look was pretty fat after that.
Az Fudd
You got stitches like mid game and then went back in.
Ryan Howard
Yeah.
Commercial Announcer
Wow.
Az Fudd
Tough.
Ashanti Plummer
I like the.
Az Fudd
I welcomed her to me.
Ryan Howard
Come on, we're doing this together.
Ashanti Plummer
So, speaking of Dierca, isn't she your teammate now with Unrivaled?
Ryan Howard
Yeah.
Ashanti Plummer
Yeah.
Ryan Howard
Like, we're, like, super close now, so we laugh about it still. But even before Unrivaled, like, we had. I had her in the Olympics, too. And just taking that to Unrivaled, it helps because we already have that experience of three on three. But, you know, when people say Momma Dee, like, that's not just a nickname. Like, that is really, like, what she embodies. Like, she's definitely the mother of any team or anything that she's a part of. And, you know, being able to have her, like, as my supporting cast and me as her supporting cast, I think we do a really good job because we both know what each other wants.
Az Fudd
And special. Speaking of Unrivaled, how was the first season last year?
Ryan Howard
I'm excited for this year. I'm excited for, like, all the new players, all the new teams and what we can do. I think Vinyl can build off what we did last year because we came up just a tad short, and so I think we can use that. Swoon's going to lead us. Right. And we'll be back in that same position with a different outcome.
Az Fudd
I'm excited to watch.
Ashanti Plummer
Yeah, this year is very different. There's a lot of changes. So different teams, a new venue. Venue outside of Miami. You're going to. I think it's Philly in January. Like, how are you feeling about all these? And there's a player development pool. I'm really happy to see that because I felt like last year it was new teams every. Every couple weeks.
Ryan Howard
Yeah, everybody's getting hurt, and it's just, yeah, here. Come on. We need you. We need you. But I'm excited for, like, all the changes like, that I've heard about. You know, I'm excited for the new teams just bringing in, like, new competition. You don't want to, like, we go against each other every day in the summer, like, all throughout the summer. And so being able to change it up and change who you're playing with and change the dynamic of everybody's game and everybody's team. I think it'll be exciting to see, like, how well people work in such a short amount of time. And then as far as, like, the Philly games, I won't be participating in it, but I am excited for it, to see it grow and see it give a chance for other people to see instead of, like, having to travel all the time. Miami's pretty far.
Az Fudd
I wish that we could go to Miami and watch a game.
Ashanti Plummer
I might have to.
Az Fudd
Shanti will be there for the both of us.
Ashanti Plummer
I'll FaceTime you in.
Az Fudd
Perfect.
Ryan Howard
I'll be looking for you.
Az Fudd
All right, Ryan, pick your dream. Three on three teammates.
Ryan Howard
Dream. Three on three teammates. Like, including myself. So I have to pick three more. I mean, is this Olympic theory, or.
Ashanti Plummer
Is this, like, unrivaled your dream, like, whatever you want in this whole world.
Ryan Howard
Me, Leash, Naz D. Solid.
Az Fudd
Not so good.
Ashanti Plummer
She said my teammates.
Ryan Howard
She said my teammates.
Ashanti Plummer
I'm rocking with who I got.
Ryan Howard
Yep. Everybody can shoot threes. Two that bang in the post. You know, if I had to go down there, I could hold my own. And then, you know, I facilitate these shoots.
Ashanti Plummer
Okay, so your fun fact on the unrival site is that you have the same number of LEGO sets as points in season one of unrivaled.
Ryan Howard
Yeah, that's probably about right.
Az Fudd
Wait, that's crazy.
Ashanti Plummer
I was going to say, girl, how many LEGO sets you got?
Ryan Howard
I have so many LEGO sets, and I have, like, I have this big old dresser of all the ones that need to be built, and then I have some that are already displayed. Like, I just have LEGO sets everywhere. And then they keep making new ones, so I keep buying new ones. The old ones.
Ashanti Plummer
It's Lego's fault.
Ryan Howard
It is Lego's fault. Like, but yes, I do have a ton of LEGO sets. Like, so many.
Az Fudd
Just, like, how do you have space for all of them? What do you do with all of them?
Ryan Howard
That's why they're not built yet. I'm so. I'm still working on this space part. But the ones that are built there on, you know, a dresser, like, with different shelves and stuff. I'm crying.
Ashanti Plummer
It's gonna be your home decor.
Ryan Howard
Yeah. Like, I have the little succulents.
Az Fudd
Those are cute.
Ryan Howard
Oh, my gosh. Yeah, I put those in the living room, like, by the tv. So those are my plant decor.
Ashanti Plummer
That's actually not a bad idea. I don't necessarily have a green thumb, so if I could get, like, a.
Ryan Howard
You gotta have the roses. So the roses are in the kitchen. That's cute.
Az Fudd
What does building Legos do for you mentally? Like, is that you're calming, like, when you can just, like, relax and chill, or is it competitive to you?
Ryan Howard
It's calming. But, like, sometimes, like, when you get so far and, like, I missed a piece, like, or you have something on wrong, then it's like, it tests you. Because now you have to take the whole thing apart just for that One piece. But it is fun, you know, and you know, the people love to see it. I have made a couple TikToks doing it. The people love to see it and just seeing, like, things that I'm interested in. But it is fun, it is relaxing and, you know, a little bit of ASMR too, when they, you know.
Ashanti Plummer
Don'T get it started. So when you buy the Legos, do you only buy them as sets and you build them or do you like, sometimes freestyle?
Ryan Howard
And I buy sets.
Ashanti Plummer
Okay.
Ryan Howard
But I did like, I did see somewhere where if you do have like all the leftover pieces, you can take a picture and send them into something and it'll tell you what you can make.
Az Fudd
Oh, that's a cool concept.
Ryan Howard
So, like, if you did have a bunch of random pieces, it'll give you options of what you can build from those pieces.
Az Fudd
That's cool. What's the most complicated or time consuming piece that you've done?
Ryan Howard
Probably grand piano.
Az Fudd
Oh, can you actually, like, play it at all?
Ryan Howard
It plays with the app and, like, music plays and like.
Ashanti Plummer
Yo, 2025. I mean, what.
Az Fudd
Wait, can you send a picture of your LEGO shelf after this, please?
Ryan Howard
Yeah. Okay, cool.
Ashanti Plummer
I need to see this, grandpa.
Ryan Howard
And then, like, the keys move and stuff.
Az Fudd
Bro, you need a LEGO deal.
Ashanti Plummer
Hello, legos. If you are listening, we have a pro in the chat. So what's your next set? Like, what are you on the hunt for now?
Ryan Howard
I don't know. Like, I have. I just picked up the Gameboy. That probably won't take long because it's kind of small. The most recent one I did was Bumblebee from Transformers.
Ashanti Plummer
Wow.
Ryan Howard
And he actually transforms. Like right now I have him in the car, but I can open him up to where he's a robot.
Az Fudd
That's cool.
Ryan Howard
But I have like, Mario, Mario Kart, Bowser, Twilight House, a bunch of little cars, some good ones.
Az Fudd
I can't wait for this video of this picture.
Ashanti Plummer
Right? I need all of it. Yeah, I need all. I need to see these.
Commercial Announcer

Az Fudd
So you're also Known for your artistic abilities. Have you always been super artsy?
Ryan Howard
Yeah, like, when I was younger, probably elementary school was probably the oldest memory I have. I had to make, like. Well, I didn't have to, but I chose to make the Statue of Liberty out of paper, like, origami for one of my school projects. And, you know, I always liked origami. But then I also like to draw and paint and stuff, just because, like, it's another way to get between the lines. Like basketball. You have the lines that you're inside, you know, doing your own thing. But it's another way for me to create in another set of lines and, you know, be in my own space. And, you know, nobody's telling me what to do. Nobody's, you know, bothering me. Like, I just. Just me and paper and pen or pencil or paint, whatever the medium is, and just, you know, just vibe. Sam gets old.
Ashanti Plummer
Wait, that was so beautiful. Almost poetic. Like, this is a true creative.
Az Fudd
Okay.
Ashanti Plummer
So it's a way to express yourself based off of what you're saying. So when you're drawing and stuff like that, it's usually, like, freestyling. Or is it because. Look, me. Hey, coloring book.
Ryan Howard
Give me some.
Ashanti Plummer
Like, I. I'm nice with the coloring book, but freestyle, you know, I'm a stick figure girly.
Ryan Howard
No, I. Like, I'll look at something and draw it.
Ashanti Plummer
But this is mad talented, right?
Ryan Howard
Like, if I want to draw, like, Bugs Bunny, like, I'll find a picture of Bugs Bunny, and then I'll draw it like that.
Az Fudd
Wow.
Ryan Howard
But I couldn't draw bugs from memory. The only thing I can draw.
Ashanti Plummer
Okay.
Ryan Howard
Is Mickey Mouse.
Ashanti Plummer
Okay. Still amazing.
Az Fudd
Like, no tracing involved. No, because I'm really good at tracing Same.
Ryan Howard
Sis, there's nothing wrong with tracing. Like, that's how you. That's how you practice. That's how you work your way up. But I don't. Not me.
Az Fudd
What's your favorite thing to draw? Characters, Landscapes.
Ryan Howard
I don't know characters, cartoons and stuff. Just because, like, it takes the least amount of time. Like, I can do those pretty quick.
Az Fudd
Okay.
Ashanti Plummer
Is there a piece of art you created that you feel like people don't know about and should.
Ryan Howard
Yes. I actually do have these three paintings that I did, but I haven't, like, posted anything about them or, like, show anything. Because I had this idea. Like, I mean, I can describe it to you before I.
Ashanti Plummer
Yes, please. Yes, please.
Ryan Howard
I wanted to try, like, my hand and, like, spray paint and, you know, stuff like that, so. But I did an elephant. I did a lion. And I did a giraffe, so I drew them all out, and only the animals themselves are colorful. Spray paint, that kind of deal. And the rest of it is black, but it's, like, geometric kind of. But it is really good. It's just, like, the color is all coming from inside.
Az Fudd
I need to see this.
Ashanti Plummer
That poetic. That's that poetic stuff I'm talking about.
Ryan Howard
I'm going to add more to those, and I'm going to hang them up in my house as my living room decor.
Az Fudd
All right, well, when you start selling pieces, let me know.
Ashanti Plummer
Let us know, please. So a little bit more on the art piece. So do you only do, like, pen, paper? Have you ever thought about, like, customizing, like, shirts, pants, hats?
Ryan Howard
I actually was working on a pair of overalls, like, but I never finished it. So I think now I have to finish it. But for the most part, it is, like, pen and paper or paint, canvas. But I will. Now that you've mentioned it, I will finish the overalls and.
Ashanti Plummer
Come on.
Ryan Howard
Yeah.
Ashanti Plummer
So I love a fashion piece, so go ahead. So we could wear it on the pod.
Ryan Howard
I have to get more into it. I. I kind of just stopped because it was like, I was working on it during the season. So I have to bring that back out. Like, I know exactly where it is, too.
Az Fudd
Free the overalls. So if the W gave you full creative control to design an alternate jersey for your team, what would the Ryan Howard edition look like?
Ashanti Plummer
That's a good question.
Ryan Howard
You know, like, I would have to make it more something that everybody likes, actually. Hold on. Timeout. Speaking of, like, shoes and stuff, I did, like, have a collab with an artist this year to make a pair of shoes. I'm sure somewhere on the dreams page, but I definitely did that whole design, got everything, and just sent it to them and made. So if you want to go look for that, you can. But, you know, I like. I like a black jersey, you know, like a dark jersey. And I would have. So for the dream, I'm actually, like. I don't know if I'm supposed to be saying this, but they are including me in our, like, upcoming jersey, and so.
Az Fudd
Oh.
Ryan Howard
Like, I really want to bring back our light blue. And, like, as far as the design, like, having our area codes on the back, like, because, you know, we play for the city, we're carrying the cities on our back. And so having that, you know, just including more about the state, you know, peaches, you know, the blue, like, the shooting stars, all that stuff. And I think right now, everything's so minimalist. Like, anybody can do it. And so just bringing back the dynamic of, you know, hard or, like, super creative. I think that's a cool idea.
Ashanti Plummer
Yeah. Bring some complexity back.
Ryan Howard
Yeah.
Az Fudd
I like the sound of this.
Ryan Howard
This, like, have your own thing. Like, only. Only we can wear this jersey. Like, nobody else can go and seal this design.
Ashanti Plummer
So we saw you did a custom sneaker breakdown on social media with Just Living. Actually, I had the chance to meet her. Yeah. She's dope. She's super creative also. So what's your dream shoe collab?
Ryan Howard
Dream shoe collab? Like, what do you mean?
Ashanti Plummer
Like, I mean, it is open to your interpretation, right? But if you maybe wanted to work with a certain shoe and you did your own custom, or is there a custom out there that you love that's already done. You can answer either. Either way.
Ryan Howard
Any Collab with, like, SpongeBob. Any shoe. Any shoe with SpongeBob. SpongeBob and, you know, aquifer.
Ashanti Plummer
All right, Fire. I definitely saw you had some golf shoes with spongebob on them. I saw them. Those were fire.
Ryan Howard
Yeah. Yeah. I gotta bring those out.
Az Fudd
Were those custom? Yeah, I gotta go find them now.
Ryan Howard
So here's on my TikTok. So my Billy Hops, he's the guy who customize all my shoes. I'm actually going to just send him a bunch, and we're just going to do a bunch of spongebob characters. But I'm not gonna do, like, the mainstream. Like, Obviously, I have SpongeBob Patrick now, but I'm not gonna do the mainstream, like, Mr. Krabs plankton. Like, I'm gonna do, like, Mrs. Puff or, like, Pearl Mermaid man and Barnacle Boy. Like.
Ashanti Plummer
Or the guy who's like, my leg.
Knix Brand Announcer
Yeah.
Ryan Howard
Only people that real spongebob watchers would know.
Ashanti Plummer
Come on.
Az Fudd
I look forward to seeing this.
Ashanti Plummer
Okay, so let's do a quick pivot. We're going to talk a little bit more basketball. You're from Tennessee, Ryan, Your mom played for the Florida Gators. And even though you went to Kentucky, you got to be the assistant coach for the Gators in the off season. How did that come to be? Why did you end up y' all everywhere? Okay.
Ryan Howard
Why didn't I go to Florida? I actually was going to go to Florida. Like, I was just going to commit, like, super, super early. And she's like, no, cool. Like, yes, I would love if you played at my alma mater, but I want you to go through the recruiting process and then if you still want to play. Okay, That's Fine. But you need to go through the process. Like I don't want you doing that just because I did it. I ended up not obviously, but I like Kentucky. You know, I probably, I didn't go to Tennessee. They didn't recruit me till end like they're the last people to start recruiting me. So that was out the door. I wasn't gonna go anyway because my mom played at Florida. So I've never liked Tennessee. Oh, but Kentucky, like, it felt like home immediately. You know, I do. If I went back and you know, had to change it again, I think I've like matured enough to say I wouldn't choose them again. But I am grateful for my time there. You know, all of the records and all the, you know, accomplishments that we made together, you know, it'll, they'll hold it forever. And you know, I'm glad to be a part of it now because at Kentucky our thing was four for 40, so four years and you get 40 years after, but even longer because I have them for life, they have me for life. And you know, whether I need something, whether new coach or anything, like I know Kenny's there now, he still reaches out like just to keep everybody involved and you know, make sure that anything from Kentucky standpoint that I need, it will happen.
Ashanti Plummer
That's dope. So how'd you end up coaching at Florida?
Ryan Howard
Well, so I went overseas my first year and I didn't want to go overseas again. So like coaching, coaching it is like I still need to make money, of course, but they reached like Kelly, who's there now their head coach. She was the interim my senior year. So I was very familiar with her. She was very familiar with me and you know, just being able to go and you know, everybody says they want to be a part of the next generation, but going and having that hands on experience with them and like seeing and being able to tell them what they can expect now. I know for me, like my coaches, they knew what the league was like 20 years prior. So being able to give them and you know, an example of what's happening now and you know, all the updates and you know, what they need to work on and what they need to change and stuff to look for, it was helpful and I liked it for me too because, you know, I get to help and you know, I get to help change and you know, impact the league because I know some of those players will make it and you know, if they do want to make it, I know how to get them there.
Ashanti Plummer
Plethora of knowledge why not?
Az Fudd
Those sort of girls are lucky, for sure. Imagine a Ryan Howard on staff.
Ryan Howard
I love practicing with them. They hated it.
Az Fudd
I wonder why.
Ryan Howard
I'm sure they would all say they're great.
Az Fudd
Oh, for sure. Like, that would be so cool.
Ashanti Plummer
BTA and practice every single day.
Az Fudd
For real.
Ashanti Plummer
Every day.
Az Fudd
I'm like, who's gonna, like, guard this girl? Literally no one. Can't. Can't guard this.
Ashanti Plummer
Like, come on. No. Who got her? We playing zone. Switch.
Ryan Howard
Switch.
Ashanti Plummer
Help.
Az Fudd
So, speaking of Olympian, how did you find out that you were being selected to represent the US on the 3 on 3 team in Paris?
Ryan Howard
I actually had a unique path, so I actually could have did either team five on five with three on three. But realistically, like, I wanted to play three on three. Everybody plays. And I wanted to be able to have an impact. I wanted to play and, you know, I went and I did the camps, like, they're like, there is a chance, especially with all the players that go into the pool, there is a chance that you don't make the team. But I know you still want, like, really want to compete. And I went to a tryout camp for Duran 3 and, you know, to get the points, like compete in a little tournament or whatever. And then, you know, when I got the call, actually, I didn't get a call. Jay Demings came to our practice and, like, hand delivered the jersey and, like, told me, like, okay, you're going to be on three on three team. And, you know, I'm not a big person to, like, cry or anything. Like, I don't, like, show my emotions, but I was super excited to, you know, be able to do that. And, you know, it meant a lot because, you know, the work that I'm putting in isn't going unnoticed. And, you know, being able to go and represent your country again, like, on an even bigger stage than, you know, the U19 or U18 teams, it meant a lot because, you know, now it's serious. Like, now like, there's perfection. Like, you have to have that, especially with USA standards and, you know, being able to be considered for the team and making the team, it was surreal at the moment.
Az Fudd
Sheesh. I got chills talking about that. Like, that is.
Ashanti Plummer
That's amazing.
Az Fudd
Wow.
Ashanti Plummer
Okay, so, you know, with unrivaled, you play three on three. You know, most basketball, you play five on five. What do you think is the biggest adjustment going from 5 on 5 to 3 on 3, especially at the Olympic.
Ryan Howard
Level, Conditioning mentally, mentally and physically? Because mentally, like, there's no timeouts unless like, there's a deadfall. So you are running, and as much as you're. You know, your body can go, you have to believe that your body can go. Like, you can't say you're tired up top or everything would just go. But I. That's probably really it, the conditioning piece, because of how much running it is. And, you know, two less people or four less people on the court with you, so you're, like, covering a ton of ground and doing it all in a shorter amount of time.
Ashanti Plummer
Yeah.
Az Fudd
What part of your skill set do you think Translated best to 3 on 3?
Ryan Howard
Probably my change of face or my poise, because, like, you have less time in three and three. Often you would think it would make you want to speed up, but when you speed up, then you see less. Your mind is only focused on one thing because you're trying to move so fast. But I think being able to, you know, stay poised and, you know, make sure that everybody's just, like, not hectic, I think it opens up a lot more options.
Az Fudd
Okay.
Ashanti Plummer
Okay. So I got a fun question. Who on the three on three squad talked the most trash? What's the best line you heard?
Ryan Howard
We didn't talk trash at the Olympics. Like, you can't breathe. You don't have the air to even talk. Like, even when we faced tip, like, there was no talking. Like, nobody can say anything. Like, we're all just trying to out here, just trying to survive, I guess.
Az Fudd
That's so real.
Ashanti Plummer
That's very different from five on five.
Ryan Howard
Then, like, five on five, you have the chance to walk somebody down. Like, talk, even at unrivaled, like, there's more time. But at the Olympics, like, you just. You just try and get in and.
Az Fudd
Go, and you're playing outside. Like, how. What is that adjustment? Like, and with the crowd, like, the heat. I play basketball because it's inside.
Ashanti Plummer
Okay.
Ryan Howard
Right. Like, yeah, no, it was hot, but they didn't. Like, we did have shade. Like, it was like a little canopy over us. The crowd still hits the same. Like, you would think that it wouldn't be as loud. No, it was still loud because of, like, they're all sitting, like, on top of us. So, like, you have the court, and then, like, the rest of the stadium or whatever, it goes up like this. But it was fun. Playing in the heat wasn't. Wasn't the best, but at least, like, when it did rain, it was still covered. So you're still playing on drag row.
Ashanti Plummer
Who was your toughest matchup?
Ryan Howard
Probably Canada. But, like, we did end up beating them, obviously. But I think our team, like, because of the camp that I went to before we played Canada, like, they came and we didn't beat them. So I think our team was made more so for them. And with the amount of time that we didn't have together, I think that's what really, like, that was our crutch as to competing with everybody else, because all the rest of three on three teams, like, they do it year round. So, you know, teammates like you, you have that connection. We had a week and a half, two weeks.
Az Fudd
That's crazy.
Ashanti Plummer
Yeah, that's nuts.
Az Fudd
Okay, well, off the court, what's one Paris memory that you'll never forget?
Ryan Howard
Golfing.
Az Fudd
You went golfing in Paris?
Ashanti Plummer
Yo, she is a golfing mommy. Oh, my goodness.
Ryan Howard
I went golfing in Paris. I did. It was really fun, too.
Az Fudd
Like, did you go with your teammates?
Ryan Howard
No, I went with my agent. But I also, like, they. If I did go again, they didn't want to come, but, you know, they started going to other sports and stuff. I didn't go to the sports or like, they just. I actually asked Steph if he wanted to come, but his family had just got out there that day, so that would've been cool.
Ashanti Plummer
Quality time.
Ryan Howard
Yeah. Yeah. Quality time.
Ashanti Plummer
So how did winning or, like, competing for a medal change the way you think about your career and what. What was next for you?
Ryan Howard
I think it. It kind of gives you a boost of confidence because to be out there, you have to be trusted. And even if you don't trust yourself, your country is depending on you. Like, they trust you. Like, they. They believe in your ability more than you did. It changed because it's like, why would I regress? Like, I was just competing for a medal. Why would I, you know, carry myself with any less weight?
Ashanti Plummer
Can't go backwards, can't go back.

Az Fudd
Okay, Ryan, so now it's time for fun and games. So we have a couple different ones today. Ashanti, what are we starting with?
Ashanti Plummer
We're gonna start with our what the fud of the week. So what the fud of the week is basically something that happened this week that made you say what the fud? So Ryan, since you are a special guest, do you have a what the fud of the week for us?
Ryan Howard
Yes, but it's a good what the FUD. Like, so there's this, this YouTube channel that me and Nishua subscribed to. ATL Swing King obviously is golf. And we've been watching him, watching him, watching him. And we actually got on his show. The name of his channel or the name of his episodes are whooping Wednesdays. So he'll have people on and like whoop them like they win. Well, he had me and Niche on and we did the whooping, we whooped them. So we took his title. All that. It was super fun and just being on it and after watching it for so long, it was fun. So that's my what the fud of this week.
Az Fudd
That sounds like a great time.
Ryan Howard
Yeah, that's a good what the fud.
Az Fudd
My what the fud is Ashanti's.
Ashanti Plummer
I knew it.
Az Fudd
What do you mean my what the fud is Ashanti's jersey dress.
Ryan Howard
Oh, okay.
Az Fudd
So I loved it.
Ryan Howard
That was a nice one.
Az Fudd
No, it was nice. I loved it. And you looked amazing. You always look great. But I loved it.
Ashanti Plummer
So for the listeners and also for Ryan, who doesn't know what she's talking about. I went to AZ's. I think it was your first official home game. Cause I went to two scrimmages before and I think that was the first official home game. And I had been gifted a large jersey. And so I was brainstorming with my mom. I'm like, we gotta make this fire. I gotta show up to that game. Can't be looking crazy. I represent more than myself today. And so she like cut up the sides and made it like fringe and then like brought it in. It was super cute. And I was really glad to be able to be representing at the game and AZ played great, and UConn won. So, I mean, it was a great day.
Az Fudd
It was. It was good.
Ryan Howard
So you don't have a. What the fuck?
Az Fudd
No, she was my. What the fud. And.
Ryan Howard
Okay, I have another one.
Az Fudd
Okay, perfect.
Ashanti Plummer
Yes.
Az Fudd
Come on.
Ryan Howard
So I'm watching this show called the 1% club. It's like this game show. They have 100 people on, and they ask you questions that 90 of the world got right, all the way down, 1%. And I'm watching it, and I'm watching the first episode, first season, and I get down to the 1% question. Like, only 1% of all the people they ask got it right. And I get it right. So I tweet, like, nobody talks to me. Like, if I was on 1%, like, I would have won, you know, 100 grand. Like, nobody talks to me. Like, y' all don't compare. So I'm talking to my agent, and she's like, yeah, you remember when you told you that they want you on? So now, like, I've done, like, all the applications, but all the casting, like, call and stuff, and so I'm going to be on the show.
Ashanti Plummer
Yeah.
Az Fudd
Wait, that's amazing. You need to let us know when so we can tune in. Need to tune in?
Ryan Howard
I don't know yet, but whenever we get the date, I'll let y' all know.
Ashanti Plummer
All right, so our last fun and game is going to be a snack ranking. We know you do. You try different snacks and drinks on your socials with Leash, who is, by the way, another WNBA player, her teammate. So we have 10 of the snacks, and you're gonna rate them either S, A, B, C, D, or F. S ranking is, like, the best thing you've ever tasted in the world. And then the F is obviously, like, horrible. So the first one, we're all gonna rank it. The first one's funny. Cottage cheese.
Ryan Howard
I've never even touched cottage cheese.
Ashanti Plummer
Ac, what about you? Because we know you have.
Az Fudd
All I know is that's an S. I don't know what you guys said.
Ashanti Plummer
But that is S. Yeah, that's gonna.
Ryan Howard
No way.
Ashanti Plummer
Yeah, it's gonna go D. It's gonna go D for me. All right, next. Dubai Chocolate.
Ryan Howard
F. Oh, my God. That was so nasty.
Ashanti Plummer
Yeah, I'm gonna go F as well. Sorry, I haven't tried it.
Az Fudd
Next.
Ashanti Plummer
Mr. Softee Ice Cream. Now, if you don't know what Mr. Softy is, Mr. Softie is ice cream truck that goes around playing music and gives ice cream to the kids for a Lot of money these days. But anyways, what do you rank that? That's an A for me.
Ryan Howard
I'm gonna say A. I'm gonna say 18.
Az Fudd
I'm gonna say B. Okay.
Ryan Howard
Carrot sticks, with or without ranch?
Ashanti Plummer
It don't say ranch on here.
Ryan Howard
Like C. I mean, I guess. I don't know.
Az Fudd
Yeah, see, I like carrots.
Ashanti Plummer
That's a B. With ranch. It's an A. Yeah, with ranch.
Ryan Howard
Definitely goes up.
Az Fudd
Okay.
Ashanti Plummer
Gummy worms.
Ryan Howard
D. I'd probably say B. Wow.
Ashanti Plummer
That's an A for me. Popcorn.
Az Fudd
S. I'm on a popcorn kick right now.
Ryan Howard
Movie theater kettle.
Ashanti Plummer
Movie theater pocker. I'm jacking it. Movie theater popcorn is a S for me.
Ryan Howard
It's an A. It's just a trail mix. A B. I'll give it a D. I don't like raisins, so I have to pick out all that.
Ashanti Plummer
I'll give it a C. Chocolate chip cookies.
Ryan Howard
A. I'll go A. You know, I'm more of a do. Like, I'm more of just the doe.
Az Fudd
Okay, that's fair.
Ryan Howard
Like, even when I make cookies, like, even when I make my own, I just give them to my teammates.
Ashanti Plummer
Oh, so you bake too? Okay.
Ryan Howard
Yeah, I do.
Az Fudd
What doesn't you do?
Ashanti Plummer
What don't you do? Okay, Cheese crackers. B.
Az Fudd
Sounds like B. C. It's nothing special.
Ashanti Plummer
C. All right, last one. Beef jerky.
Ryan Howard
I think that's gotta be my S. Slim Jims. Slim Jim, specifically. I love slim Jim. Like, I. I want to be a slim Jim. I want to be a slim gym.
Ashanti Plummer
When I used to eat meat, I used to body those, but I don't eat meat anymore, so that's an F.
Ryan Howard
Sorry I said B. I eat enough for the both of us.
Ashanti Plummer
Hold me down. Well, that wraps our fun and games. Thank you so much, Ryan, for joining us.
Ryan Howard
Of course. This is fun.
Az Fudd
All right, that is all for today. Ryan, thank you so much for joining us. It was so nice to get to know a little bit more about Ryan on the court, but Ryan, the golfer artist, Lego builder, All of the above. So thank you for joining.

Podcast: Fudd Around And Find Out
Hosts: Azzi Fudd (UConn), Ashanti Plummer
Guest: Rhyne Howard (Atlanta Dream/USA Olympian)
Date: November 21, 2025
Network: iHeartPodcasts & Unanimous Media
This week, Azzi and Ashanti welcome WNBA star and Olympian Rhyne Howard to discuss her journey from college stardom to the pros, the mental and physical demands of elite basketball, her artistic and competitive passions off the court (LEGO architecture, art, and golf!), and her experiences representing the U.S. in 3x3 basketball at the Paris Olympics.
The episode blends basketball discussion, personal revelations, anecdotes about competition and self-care, and a fun dose of games and rankings—showing the rich personal lives that fuel these star athletes.
Azzi Fudd celebrates her 23rd birthday amid the UConn season, emphasizing family, good food, and recovery. She shares:
“I came to [my grandparent’s house in Connecticut]... My parents were here, they brought Stewie up, my little dog, and they made me a birthday feast. …Probably one of the best dinners I’ve had.” (04:00)
On the energy as the season begins:
“The season’s ramp…This is a big week for us. …I’m so excited!” (02:57)
Rhyne’s off-season is a blend of “golfing and working out”, having picked up golf with her friend Leash as a hobby now three years strong.
“I’ve been golfing almost like every day since the season ended.” (05:37)
Reflects on the Dream’s season:
“Obviously, nobody wants to end short of the end goal…But…we did a lot more than what was even expected. …Tied for second at the end of the regular season, I think that’s a huge accomplishment in itself.” (06:45)
Lessons from a ‘down year’:
“I personally think that was my worst year in the league because I just wasn’t consistent enough to my standards… as the leader…if I would’ve had a better year, we probably would have gone farther.” (08:58)
On her “welcome to the league” moment:
“De’Erica [Hamby] busting my lip…Not intentional…we were both going for a rebound…My lip is dripping. …I had to get stitches that game and [came] back in.” (10:57)
De’Erica later becomes her “Unrivaled” (3x3 league) teammate, illustration of the league’s close community:
“People say Mama Dee, that’s not just a nickname…she’s definitely the mother of any team.” (12:12)
Excitement for changes in “Unrivaled” (new players, venues, development pool):
“…Bringing in new competition…change who you’re playing with…the dynamic…It’ll be exciting.” (13:36)
A serious LEGO enthusiast:
“I have so many LEGO sets…a big old dresser of the ones that need to be built…I keep buying new ones.” (15:30) “It’s calming…but sometimes…if you missed a piece, it tests you. …It is fun, it is relaxing…and a little bit of ASMR too…” (16:41)
Most complicated build: The Grand Piano (works with an app and plays music!) (17:46)
On her art:
“Basketball…has the lines that you’re inside… but [art is] another way for me to create in another set of lines and…be in my own space. Nobody’s telling me what to do.” (22:11)
Unseen works: Spray-paint animal series (an elephant, lion, giraffe with geometric black and color). (24:19)
Her mother’s advice on college:
“She’s like, no, cool…I want you to go through the recruiting process. …If you still want to play, okay, that’s fine—but…don’t want you doing that just because I did it.” (29:48)
On coaching at Florida:
“I didn’t want to go overseas again…They reached out…just being able to go…having that hands-on experience with [the team]…being able to tell them what they can expect now.” (31:26)
On making the Paris 3x3 team:
“Jay Demings came to our practice and hand-delivered the jersey…You have to have that [perfection], especially with USA standards…being considered for the team and making the team, it was surreal.” (33:17)
Biggest 3x3 adjustments: Conditioning, both mental and physical.
