Danielle Carolyn
It's Brooke, Danielle, and Kit.
Brooke Michio
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
Wow. Kit, finally.
Danielle Carolyn
Kit Clementine Keenan, if you will. Is that your real middle name?
Kit Keenan
It's my real middle name, and it's actually my grandma's first name, Clementine. So that's where it comes from.
Danielle Carolyn
It's the cutest name.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. I'm really excited to be here, guys. Really excited.
Danielle Carolyn
We are seriously so thrilled. We had to kind of recount and think, has Kit been on the podcast? Because I feel like we sometimes talk about the. So cheesy. But the gals in the Go universe, like, meta or whatever.
Brooke Michio
Multiverse.
Danielle Carolyn
Multiverse. And we're like, Kit is after a character in that, so we just assumed you've been on. And then we were like, like, our whole friend group has been on except for you. And that's not okay.
Kit Keenan
I know. It's sad. I feel like I see you guys all the time. We're, like, always catching up, for sure. And it is like a podcast. So I'm like, I've been here before. I feel very comfortable.
Danielle Carolyn
I'm so glad. No, you walked in. You were like, where do I sit? Ready to go?
Brooke Michio
Yeah, we're good to go. We're so excited to have you. We were talking about you last week. Literally last week.
Kit Keenan
I was listening. I was listening to the episode on the way here, but then I didn't hear the part.
Danielle Carolyn
You're like, what?
Kit Keenan
Yeah, I was, like, reading on the edge of my seat.
Brooke Michio
No, I feel bad. I literally texted you preemptively after we had arranged this. I was like, just so you know, I'm going to.
Kit Keenan
Addressing the allegations. Addressing the allegations. I'm like, what is she about to say?
Brooke Michio
I knew that we talked. We were talking about, like, Valentine's Day gifts. Yes. And elaborate gifts and stuff. And how we're just jealous and really great mean. We're so jealous. Kid and her ballet FS were jealous. Yeah.
Kit Keenan
He did good. He did good.
Danielle Carolyn
Are those the ones you have on your feet right now, or those are just plain.
Kit Keenan
But then he got me loafers for. It was for Christmas, which was really cute. And the thing is, like, we didn't spend Christmas together. I. I met my boyfriend in London because he was there for. His family lives there, and he was there for the holidays. So I kind of said, like, before I went, I was like, well, we're not really celebrating the holidays together. He probably won't get me anything.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
And I got him, like, a little gift I went to. This is actually a pro tip for girlfriends. There's a jersey store on Canal street, and it has pretty much every soccer jersey. Like, vintage soccer jerseys. Every soccer jersey you could ever want. So if your boyfriend is into soccer.
Danielle Carolyn
Football.
Kit Keenan
Definitely football, then definitely go. I for. I'm forgetting the name of. I feel like, search soccer jerseys. Canal Street. It will come up, and it is, like, the holy Mecca. So I got him, like, a cool vintage jersey from there, but he definitely outdid himself.
Danielle Carolyn
You're like, all right. Setting the expectations.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
It's always that first gift with a partner where you're like, where are we at with the gifts? You know? Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Sentimental.
Kit Keenan
Like Lux. Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Yes.
Danielle Carolyn
Okay. Noted.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
For the next gift, guys, is his birthday coming?
Kit Keenan
His birthday is November.
Brooke Michio
Some time to.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. Get crafty with.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, get crafty. I. While we're talking about it, because this is what I really wanted to bring him up. Can you talk about how, like, you guys knew each other and, like, just, like, the lore.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, I Honestly, I don't think I've ever, like, told this story at.
Danielle Carolyn
I think it's very.
Brooke Michio
Oh, wow. Thank you. To share with us.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. Content for gals. Okay. So I met my boyfriend at usc. We went to USC together. He is English, so he was, like, living his best life as, like, an American frat boy coming from, like, a little English school boy vibe. And we met at usc. I was only at USC for a year and a half, and then I transferred to nyu. But, like, we were in kind of overlapping friend groups in college, but I was always just like, this is just like, he's cute, but, like, he's a frat boy. Like, not my vibe, you know? And he claims that we went on a date in college that, like, I don't even remember, but I knew I always thought he was cute. Then at some point during that year and a half when I was at usc, I think we think it was, like, at Coachella or something like that or, like, on a night out or something where we shared locations with each other. So. So over the next five years, I have had his location find my friend's location forever. And, like, I've run into him, like, a few times over the years, like, our family's vacation in similar places or I remember one time I was, like, looking for somewhere to go with my family for my sister's spring break, and I saw that he was in India on Find My Friends, and I texted him and I was like, hey, I have been wanting to plan a trip to India. Like, why are you there? Please give me recommendations, whatever. And he, like, sent me this whole list. And so we were, like, overlapping in a few ways. And then at the beginning of this past year, he was like, hey, I'm moving back to New York from London. Can I take you on a date? And. And I was like, yeah, let's do it. And then it was just, like, immediately I knew, like, he had what he was what I had been looking for. Like, obviously when we first met, like, I always thought he was cute, but I just. We didn't really get to, like, connect until he was here, and he needed.
Danielle Carolyn
Time to, like, do his own thing. And both you were a lot younger.
Brooke Michio
And in different places in life. You didn't say USC like, for a lot, right?
Kit Keenan
Like, yeah, also that was the thing. Like, I went. I graduated from nyu, so I transferred to NYU and graduated from nyu. So I was, like, living my life in New York. He was in L. A. And then he was, like, back in London. And it was just the type of thing where, like, we would run into each other here and there, but it was just unrealistic for, like, a relationship.
Danielle Carolyn
It's so cute too, because I'm pretty sure this was him. You and I and a few other people that lived on the west side went and watched the solary clip.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. Okay, so this is like another layer.
Danielle Carolyn
Oh.
Kit Keenan
To the story, which was that our first date, he was like, hey, I am coming to New York for one night. Yes. Yes. He was coming to New York the day of the solar eclipse for one night. And he was flying from Bali to New York and then back to London.
Brooke Michio
One night only.
Kit Keenan
One night only. And he was like. We had been, like, texting a bit, and he was like, I'm in New York for one night. Let me take you on our first date. And I was like, oh, my God. He's like, only here for one night, and he, like, wants to take me on a date. That's so amazing. And it's the day of the solar eclipse. I wake up, I go on tick tock. I see this one video of this girl being, like, talking about manifestation on the day of the. The eclipse. And she's like, the one thing that I ask you not to do is go on any dates today because I want you to be alone with your feelings. And this is, like, an amazing time to manifest and whatever. And I'm like, oh my God. He only has one night. Like, you have this girl. Like, I don't care what this girl on TikTok says. Like, whatever, I need to go. Like, we're making this happen. He calls me at like midday and he's like, hey, so I lost my passport and like on the way to New York and oh my God, I can't get on my flight. Like, I'm gonna miss my flight and I'm not gonna make it to New York on time. Like, and I'll land probably, but like, I'll land, but it's gonna be later. And I just like, don't want that to be our vibe for our first date and whatever. And I was like, this guy's lying to me, obviously, because I had just been like, burned so many times in the past. And I was like, okay, like, whatever. I was ready to be disappointed again. And so I was like, you know what? Maybe it's a sign. Like, I saw this. Tick tock. It's not the right time. He might be lying, he might not be. Whatever. And we go watch the eclipse together, actually, me and Danielle.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
And then I get home and when I get home, there was like this huge bouquet of roses. Being like, being like, I like, I hope this, the eclipse brings you new energy and I can't wait to see you in person and blah, blah, blah, blah, like wonderful little note. And I was just like, okay, maybe he's not lying.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
And then when we went on our first, our actual first date, like a few weeks later, it just felt so much better because I was like, okay, I've been waiting for this. And like the excitement had been building up and everything. And it was literally a six hour long first eight, which I never would have done. That was like something I feel like it's maybe it's from like, do you guys listen to. We met. Yeah, of course. It's one of her rules. And she's always like, don't do that. It's like it should be a first date. Like, super quick, easy, like in and out. Just feel the vibes out. And so I feel like I had made up so many rules in my head when I was dating and I was like, that's something that I won't do. And then first our, our first date was omakase and so I was already done for. I. It was definitely going to be longer. And then after that, we like went to a comedy show. We went to go be all friends after that. Like, we had a whole night out after that. Like, and I was just. I did not want to leave. And it was literally the first time ever that I was just like, I'm gonna let myself break all of these rules. And it worked out.
Brooke Michio
So we say that we don't really believe in, like, we kind of, like, rules in general. Is, like, a con, like, with, like, dating, like, friendships, whatever it is as a construct, like, it. It doesn't always apply.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
You know, if you need the advice, you can lean on them. If something feels right, just go into it.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
And you trusted your gun, and it worked out.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
So.
Brooke Michio
And, like, you let yourself let loose, and I feel like you, like, felt that. Like, I feel like it was a sign. Like, you're supposed to let yourself.
Kit Keenan
I just think, like, I was so avoidant and, like, so scared of being hurt that I almost, like, didn't even allow myself in previous relationships to, like, open up to the point to actually get into a committed relationship and to fall in love. Like, I was so guarded. And that after that first date, when I, like, broke that rule, I was like, okay, this is. I'm committing to not being guarded. I'm committing to being open to this experience. And, like, if it works out, it works out. But it hasn't worked out in the past. So, like, being guarded clearly wasn't working for me, and I know I needed to change that.
Danielle Carolyn
And it also goes to show that, like, maybe someone that's listening has someone in their life that they feel like eventually maybe they'd love to date or, you know, they're worried the timelines aren't matching. Like, five years later, you guys are dating.
Kit Keenan
Totally. Like, that's crazy.
Danielle Carolyn
And, like, you were living your life to the fullest. You weren't even. Maybe not even really interested in him. You didn't know him enough.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
And then it's just, like, so crazy how someone that you know in your life right now could be someone you end up dating.
Brooke Michio
So true. I feel like that's also, like, the, Dare I say, like, fantasy for a lot of people.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Because it's someone that you already know, you're already comfortable with.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
It's scary going on a date with a stranger, for sure. But, like, with him, like, you kind of had some history and, like, comfortability there. Maybe. Yeah, I know that, like, you were.
Kit Keenan
Definitely probably still nervous, but I was so nervous. But I think, like, that mentality that I went into that first date with, which was like, I am so done, like, being guarded and, like, having my walls up prior to starting to date my boyfriend, I Had been in like a six month long situationship with this guy and I like really wanted him to be my boyfriend just because I wanted a boyfriend. Like, I just wanted a boyfriend. And I was like, I've committed time to this and whatever. And I liked him, but like, we weren't getting closer because I had so many boundaries and so many rul. Because I was scared that he was gonna hurt me. And we had been dating so long that I. I was like over time building up more walls because I was like, he hasn't made it official. Why hasn't he made it official? And if he did early on, I feel like I would have been like, oh, I can let some of my guard down.
Danielle Carolyn
Totally.
Kit Keenan
But it was like the classic New York guy thing where it's like, Mr. Bay, what's it gonna be? Character, no labels and whatever. And that's funny.
Danielle Carolyn
I think I remember this one.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. And like right before Valentine's Day last year, he was like, hey, so we've been dating for six months and like we're not getting any closer. And like that's kind of your fault.
Danielle Carolyn
Like, oh, he said that's you.
Kit Keenan
He didn't say it in those words, but like, it was because of all of my rules. Like, I was like, no sleepovers, I can only see you twice a week. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And that was all because I was like, I'm a busy girl, I have boundaries, blah, blah, bl. Blah. And it was because he like didn't. Didn't want to commit. But at the same time, it was also because of my thing and we weren't a match at the end of the day. But I just think like when I started dating my boyfriend, I was like, okay, having my guard up is not working for me. And like, it's not allowing me to get close to the people that I'm dating to even see if we can fall in love. Like, and that mindset shift like completely changed the game.
Danielle Carolyn
So it took a few years, but she.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, it's so much better.
Danielle Carolyn
Like, then she started liking the color pink again.
Brooke Michio
Oh, I love that trip. I honestly. Accurate.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, you, femininity.
Brooke Michio
I totally feel that.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
I don't know if you, I mean you've always been like, I feel like a very like girly girl. But I don't know if you've now externally, absolutely.
Kit Keenan
Like, emotionally not at all. Like the most avoidant. Like, closed off more like masculine inner world. And then it's funny because my exterior is like so hyper feminine mostly.
Danielle Carolyn
And same with like, music taste.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. Speaking of, Danielle and I have a very similar music.
Danielle Carolyn
Yes. It's really. It's great. Like, we literally saw each other at a party the other night. We were like, we'll stand together for this music. Like, it's really. It's so funny. Like, I feel like you made a tick tock a couple years ago about, like, what my outfit is versus the music. I'm.
Brooke Michio
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
And I was like, that's so good.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. Oh, my gosh. I saw this video about there's a new pilates studio that only plays, like, rap trap music.
Danielle Carolyn
Should we go?
Kit Keenan
And I want to go.
Danielle Carolyn
It's in the Lower east side. I sent it to Brooke. Solid core girly now. I was like, I don't go.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
I didn't even think we should go.
Kit Keenan
I know. I've been really wanting to go. So I think it's called shop house, right?
Danielle Carolyn
Yes.
Brooke Michio
You guys go and vet it for me.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Yeah, Let me know.
Danielle Carolyn
It looks like they literally play Drake and you do Pilates. Like, I'm not really sure what's better than that.
Kit Keenan
No. So excited.
Brooke Michio
What do they normally play in your. Like, you said it's like elevator music kind of.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, yeah, like, exactly.
Danielle Carolyn
Like, that's like New York Pilates spa music. Yeah, kind of.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Like tropical house sometimes. Yeah. A couple words here.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Gals, we're on the brink of spring. I mean, it's here. Okay. I'm just so happy to not be shivering every time I walk outside of my apartment. And let me tell you, Roback is the brand that we've all got to add to our warm weather wardrobe. Their new line is perfect for brunch with friends after a nice morning walk. I'm doing my morning walk in Brooklyn. You know, Danielle's doing the west side Highway. I just unboxed their new active Squirt. And the colors are everything. They have your neutrals. They've got the white, black, navy. But they also have some gorgeous spring colors coming. I'm a colors girly, but I also. I'm trying to get more into navy because I feel like it looks really flattering and it's, like, so chic. I love to throw on these little squirts, you know, with a sweater around my shoulders, and I give that, like, preppy put together look. But then I also will remove the sweater and just do like, an active, like, T shirt tank top for when I'm, like, in sport mode. You guys know we love a sport mode moment. In the meantime, it's starting to get warmer. But, like, as we're waiting for things to, like, really, really heat up their tempo. Jogger set is such a perfect cozy outfit. It's truly great for all the gal pals, their travel era. Like, it's a great plain outfit. We always wear, like, a cozy sweatset when we're getting our makeup done for our live shows, and this is absolutely perfect for that. Roback is so great. They have so many great, like, pieces that you can just add to your wardrobe. We like the active dress, as I said, the skort and the men, let me tell you, the men love Roback. So if you're looking to get, you know, any man in your life a little something, check out Roback. And you could use code gals on roback.com for a generous 20 off your first order through the end of this week. That's a great deal. Use code gals on roback.com that's spelled R H O B A C K dot com. I am so pro dating apps. You guys know I met my boyfriend on a dating app. I. I know that they work. I'm just gonna say it, okay? And if you're one of these people who's like, I don't know, I just don't know if they're gonna, like, bring me the right people. The algorithm this. The algorithm that. That is why we love Bumble and that is why we love their Discover feature. This is going to help you connect with people that match your vibe. It's a personalized page in the app and it's going to show you your most compatible matches curated for you daily. Can see the type of connections that they really want to have with just a little less swiping. So it's going to bring together a custom mix of people who share your intentions and interests. Because actually on Bumble, you set your intention with dating, which I just love that. So you don't have to feel like you're wasting your time. If someone doesn't want something serious, or maybe you don't want something serious, you can plug it in and you're going to get someone that wants the same things as you. The Discover feature is free. It is going to show you your best matches. And just like with less wipes, I love this. I truly wish this was something when I was dating, but, you know, it's fine. Everything ended up working out for me. You want to find people with interests that you can connect over. Check out Discover on Bumble.
Danielle Carolyn
What do they play at? Solid Core?
Brooke Michio
It depends on the instructor. There's There's I say this in quotes theme classes, but the instructor is talking legitimately the entire time. Talk about yapping. I know that it's literally their job to, like.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Queuing up the next exercise while you're in the current one.
Danielle Carolyn
Oh, wow. So there's no break.
Kit Keenan
No.
Brooke Michio
There's no period where you can even enjoy the music.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
So it doesn't really matter. I mean, it does matter, but it doesn't. Like, I've taken classes where I'm like, oh, the music kind of wasn't my jam.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
It literally doesn't matter because you can't barely hear it. Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Kid, I feel like you have literally done every workout class in New York. Like, I love your workout of the week videos. Like, yes. Firing.
Kit Keenan
I like, I love trying new classes and it just like, it keeps me motivated over time to just.
Danielle Carolyn
To change things.
Kit Keenan
To change things up and, like, try new places. And I just feel like there's so many new studios.
Danielle Carolyn
So many.
Kit Keenan
But what I've realized recently is, like, you know how everyone complains about how you can't ever get a dinner reservation in New York?
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
It's literally the same with workout classes.
Danielle Carolyn
Like. Yeah.
Kit Keenan
It's so hard to get a reservation at. In any workout class in any, like, trendy restaurant in New York.
Danielle Carolyn
Oh, for sure. It's getting like, what's next? The grocery stores.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Like, I don't even know.
Brooke Michio
I would imagine try because you guys go, like, they'll try. Becca. So I'd imagine like, those book up. Like.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
You know, the really popular. What. What is the heated ones that people like Tracy Anderson and of course another one. Core Power. Of course.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
What's. There's another one.
Danielle Carolyn
Fuse House.
Kit Keenan
Yes.
Danielle Carolyn
I haven't been.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. I love Fuse House, honestly. But it is like, I have to go on like a Sunday at like, a weird time, 3:30pm in order to, like, get a spot because.
Danielle Carolyn
Really?
Kit Keenan
Yeah. So pack.
Danielle Carolyn
If you had to, like, choose a workout to do the rest of your life, like one of these classes.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Or for the rest of this year. Like, what are you fixated on right now?
Kit Keenan
Well, I really like, like, lifting weights.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
So it would probably be either, like, just lift. Lifting weights with my trainer or Aloe Gym.
Brooke Michio
Is that the. Is that the trainer in mention?
Danielle Carolyn
That's all I know.
Kit Keenan
Or I have really been loving Fuse House. Like, oh, wow, it's so good. It's like super hot. Pilates, Matt. Pilates.
Danielle Carolyn
Super hot.
Brooke Michio
I've seen the videos. Look sweaty.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. Yeah, it is. But Sometimes I. I have friends that, like, do that so often. Like, multiple times a week. And I don't know how people do it with their hair.
Danielle Carolyn
The hair. I.
Kit Keenan
The hair.
Danielle Carolyn
I just have it down.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Spraying dry shampoo in our hair before we even get into the class. Like, I. I don't know. That's.
Kit Keenan
I'm Like, I have, like, a full head of extensions, and, like, I can only wash my hair, like, twice a week. Like. Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
No, the heated workouts don't work for me in that way. So watch.
Brooke Michio
Like, I'm gonna die. So that's me. I'm like, oh, well, for life. Or maybe go walk out of the room and you know you hate.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Called out. I don't want to be distracting either.
Danielle Carolyn
I know.
Brooke Michio
Balance between, like, is it appropriate for me to leave a few times? Or.
Danielle Carolyn
And, like, they always say it's okay.
Brooke Michio
But then everyone, like, turns and looks. I know.
Danielle Carolyn
Like, it seems.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
You're like, all right. I want to die. No, I mean, I haven't even. I don't think I've ever. In the last. Since moving to New York, I've never taken a heated workout class because I'm so scared I'm gonna pass out.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
So I just don't. But you go say, I did.
Brooke Michio
Someone told me once. They're like, I go in with my power bar, my water. I was like, if you have to take a power bar break in the heat of workout, it's just not for you.
Kit Keenan
I'm sorry. The thought of bringing food into that room is so scary. Like, I don't want it. No.
Brooke Michio
Yeah. I understand. Like, the fear of, like. Oh. But, like, I'm like, I wouldn't be ready then to take that class.
Kit Keenan
Like, I'm just not ready. Like, just.
Danielle Carolyn
That was funny.
Kit Keenan
Thank you.
Brooke Michio
Like, yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
If you need to bring a granola bar into a class, like, that is not for me.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
And I'm not there either. No judgment, but.
Kit Keenan
No.
Danielle Carolyn
No.
Kit Keenan
But it's so funny because, like, when I was in high school, like, it was all about soul cycle and berries and again, like, still classes that I love, but I feel like those were, like, the main trendy classes. And, like, now I look back, and those seem even way harder than, like.
Brooke Michio
Yeah. Yeah.
Kit Keenan
Or fuse House or anything. Like, I think even now, like, the harder classes, even. Even the heated classes are, like, way more calm than like, what I was doing to my body in high school with, like, yeah. Soul cycle four times a week and stuff. Like, it's so high intensity now.
Danielle Carolyn
On this side of Tick Tock. I don't know if you guys have seen this. Like, POV. It's 2017. Yes. You're in a Soul cycle. I mean, you lived in the city. I didn't live here then.
Kit Keenan
Yes, exactly. I went to Greece Church High School. And it's like, right by nyu and there was this one soul cycle. It's Soul Cycle Noho. That studio. They would give our teachers at Grace free classes. So we would go after class, like after school to Soul Cycle and see, like, all of our teachers in the classes. Like, like, it was so funny.
Danielle Carolyn
I don't know how. I've never worked out with the teacher before. I don't think ever, like one of my teachers. That's crazy. So it was just like a. And like, where was the spot after Soul Cycle Noho that you'd like go to get like a smoothie or a coffee after, like, was Juice Generation.
Kit Keenan
Juice Generation. Or there was a place called Liquiteria.
Danielle Carolyn
I remember that there used to be one here. Square.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
Danielle Carolyn
You, me and Kevin Droniac went years ago. I just have this weird, random.
Brooke Michio
Wow.
Kit Keenan
It was like the era of just like a. A PB acai bowl and like new Soul Cycle shoes and like a new Soul Cycle outfit was like, oh, the best. Yes.
Danielle Carolyn
I'm sure it was a time living here back then. Like, everyone says it was better then. Do you feel that way or you were also younger?
Kit Keenan
I was younger. Yeah. It's kind of like. I mean. Yeah, it's like, it's different. No one wants to say they peaked in high school.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah. No, maybe it's like you were like. Yeah. I feel like when people say that they're maybe in their like, upper 30s now because they got to experience their 20s, but like, you don't know because you didn't go out really as much then. I'm sure you went out in other ways or like, there's ways around it.
Kit Keenan
But still, even at that time, like, I feel like when I think about that, like when New York was cooler, that sort of conversation, I always ask my mom about it because she moved to New York in the 80s.
Danielle Carolyn
Okay.
Kit Keenan
And I feel like that was a sick time to be in New York because it was really so much of like, the clubbing going out culture was so different and so much more fun. Like, because there wasn't iPhones. Like, just going out was way more crazy and fun and entertaining because people weren't worried about, like, get someone taking a photo of them, like, blacked out in the corner or like, whatever. And so people could totally just let loose or even, like, not even blacked out or drugs or anything like that, but just, like, dancing, being silly and stupid. Yeah. Like, things like that. I just feel like that is not part of going out culture anymore.
Danielle Carolyn
And I miss dancing.
Kit Keenan
Even in 2016, like, when new York and soul cycle and all of that vibe was happening, like, it still wasn't. When you went to a club, it was still. You were still, like, worried about people taking photos.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
Their phone.
Brooke Michio
There's a place in Brooklyn that doesn't let you. I don't know if it's always, but when I went, you were not allowed to have your phone. They didn't put a sticker over, but they, like, fully. Like, my friend, like, forgot the rule, like, wanting to take a picture in the security. Like, you know, they're like, you cannot take photos in here. Not that anything's going down, but just people were dancing and, like, having fun. And it was so. It's called public Records. It's like, this is not an underground place.
Danielle Carolyn
Oh, I've heard of this.
Brooke Michio
It is so fun. Every room is, like, different music. You guys would really like it. It. It's very cool.
Kit Keenan
It sounds so fun.
Brooke Michio
Yeah, it's not.
Danielle Carolyn
It's like a ton of rooms. My friend just went to a birthday.
Brooke Michio
Yeah, Yeah, I heard of this. You, like, buy a ticket and just go. It's kind of like a bar, but there's just like, if you don't like the music in one room, you could walk to the other. Yeah, there's a different DJ in there.
Kit Keenan
Oh, my God, I love that.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
So you could switch up the vibes. There's also places, I think, that put a sticker over your phone. I've heard about these.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah. And obviously the social clubs. There's like, so many new social clubs in the city. There's church.
Kit Keenan
So many, apparently. I feel like the only. My boyfriend is, like, literally the poster child for Casa. He loves Casa and I. And my best friend Ruby is like the poster child for Shea Margot. So, like.
Danielle Carolyn
Oh, really?
Kit Keenan
Always between those two on the weekends. But I love both of them, honestly. I'm just like the Nepo.
Danielle Carolyn
You're, like, perfect.
Kit Keenan
I, like, go to whoever wants to take me.
Danielle Carolyn
I'm still over here with my Sohos membership, and I think it might be getting frozen soon because I really haven't gone.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah. But it's nice every now and then when I'm traveling.
Kit Keenan
That's what I was gonna say. That's like, nice. That's what I hear.
Danielle Carolyn
Or the one in. Just because I live over near me packing. Like, sometimes I'll just like stroll in and now if like summer's about to be out. I mean, these are all like first world problems. But, like, I'm just like the people.
Brooke Michio
Who like, don't live in a place where they have these are probably. What language is this?
Danielle Carolyn
Yes.
Brooke Michio
No, it literally sounds like some other. I didn't never even heard of this.
Danielle Carolyn
Other one that it's also in me hacking. Right.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, it's like it right across the.
Danielle Carolyn
Street from Catch and like Sephora. I think I saw it.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. Right across from Sephora.
Danielle Carolyn
It was never on my radar. And then of course, Taylor Swift went and then I was like, what is that? Like, he was wearing like that plaid. Vivian Westwood.
Brooke Michio
I know.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, I know that.
Brooke Michio
I know the look.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, you know the look very well familiar with. So that's the only reason I didn't know. Rube, can you post there? Is that a place you get? Because I feel like I've seen people post, like, their food.
Kit Keenan
Have seen people post it.
Brooke Michio
Right.
Danielle Carolyn
Like, I feel like all social clubs have their own, like, rules and everything. It's definitely nice because a lot of those places you don't have to have a reservation. You can just walk in. You know, it's like a good, good network atmosphere.
Brooke Michio
People like. I feel like if you're an independent contractor of sorts, like any work in like PR marketing, like that is where you get all your clients and. Yeah, you get them there.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
Well, for my, like, when I was growing up in New York, it was really like the membership clubs were like the uptown kind of like almost country club vibe. And it was like stuffy and like old people. And now I think it's become like the new nightlife for young people in New York. And I don't know, it's interesting. Like, what I hear from my boyfriend is that it's a huge culture in London. Like, that's why he grew up how he grew up going out.
Danielle Carolyn
Interesting.
Kit Keenan
And it was never a thing until, like recently for me. I was like, in recent years, have I, yeah. Noticed it in New York more.
Brooke Michio
That kind of is giving country club. I've heard about people like, it's now my friends are moving to the suburbs, whatever. Hearing about country clubs and signing up that the prices are correct.
Danielle Carolyn
No, I. I can't level, like, join. I have some friends that like, from a different state that are like, okay, if I just move back before I turn 30 then I can get the under 30 deal for the rest of my life. I'm like, we're thinking that far to get the under 30 for a country club.
Brooke Michio
They love golf that much. It's that important to some people just.
Danielle Carolyn
Like, because it's, like, their family's membership and, like, wait, can you play golf.
Kit Keenan
For free if you're.
Brooke Michio
It depends on which one it is. Some of them, like, charge a fee. Each hot. Like a nominal.
Kit Keenan
I feel like that kind of maybe would save money for some people if.
Danielle Carolyn
They golf a lot and it's like, a social thing or if they have, like, a spa and a pool.
Brooke Michio
And it is funny, though, business thing for some people. Business clients out to golf. I know they did. They ever touched. I remember growing up, they're like, you gotta learn how to play golf. You're gonna go out with your clients on the golf course. Never once been offered to play golf with my clients.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, we're in the right industry for that.
Danielle Carolyn
My boyfriend, on the other hand, Ryan, has been offered to play golf a lot. And that's finance, so that makes sense. Yeah, we weren't. But my dad always said, you should really learn how to play golf. And he wanted me to learn how to speak Mandarin. Those were, like, the two. That would be sick if I took.
Kit Keenan
Mandarin, like, all four years high school, because my mom was like, this would be an amazing skill for you to have.
Danielle Carolyn
I know.
Kit Keenan
Meanwhile, I'm literally kindergarten level of Mandarin. Like, it was such a hard language.
Danielle Carolyn
To learn it, I would imagine. I never got that far. I just kept with my Spanish because, like, I've been doing Spanish my whole life, so.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. As well.
Danielle Carolyn
But it's. It's really so cool to, like, learn different languages. Kind of going back to. We were talking about. About, like, when obviously, you lived in New York forever. You were born in New York. We, Brooke and I were talking about the different eras of kids. Because you've, like, done so many. Like, you've lived some hair colors. I mean, you've lived so many lives, but you were born in the city.
Kit Keenan
Yes, I was born in the West Village. Well, actually, I was born in. I, like, moved to the West Village from Tribeca when I was five. Okay. And so I've lived in the West Village since I was five. That's so fun, and I love it so much. But it's definitely changed. Like.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, the.
Kit Keenan
The. The neighborhood has changed a lot.
Danielle Carolyn
Sure.
Kit Keenan
And to your point, like, I feel like I have gone through so many eras. Like, as I was just telling you guys, I had to get my passport renewed. And the photo that I took, like, nine years ago at this point, it's so funny because I remember exactly, like, the vibe I was in to take that photo. Like, I was dating this skater boy who was like, like the first love of my life. And I remember, like, I had to take my passport photo and my mom was like, okay, you gotta go right now and take the photo. And I was like, I need to run to my date. Like, I. I'm gonna miss my day. Blah, blah.
Danielle Carolyn
That was like.
Kit Keenan
So I, like, quickly took the photo and I hate it now, like, looking back, but I look like such, like, an edgy.
Danielle Carolyn
Like, you had a Tumblr. Like, I've seen photos of you. Yeah, it was like, Tumblr edgy kit.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, I. My Instagram name was Crybaby Kit.
Danielle Carolyn
Oh, my God.
Kit Keenan
I was like. I remember I was, like, really into supreme and I, like, modeled. There was this brand called Anti Social. Social.
Brooke Michio
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
You guys know that Not David Dobrik's friends merch, or is that a different brand? They just wore that.
Brooke Michio
They, like, made, like, a. Not a copy of it, but they. Their. Their merch was like, they sold the.
Kit Keenan
Design, but, like, at one point it was like, like a cool street wear vibe.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Kit Keenan
And I remember, like, I was modeling with them in New York and, like, at that time, it was just like, the coolest. I thought, like, I was, like, super edgy and cool. And it's, like, so funny because my whole vibe, my, like, brand publicly, but then also just, like, internally has changed so much. Like, I just feel like a grandma at this point. But.
Danielle Carolyn
No, yeah, you've lived.
Brooke Michio
How old are you now? 25 or 26?
Kit Keenan
25.
Brooke Michio
I'm like, I always forget, like, the age discrepancy between us, but I think.
Danielle Carolyn
We'Re the same age kit. Maybe. Yeah, maybe I'm, like, turning 27 this year, though.
Brooke Michio
No, maybe not.
Kit Keenan
I'm 25.
Danielle Carolyn
Are you turning.
Brooke Michio
The math is not.
Danielle Carolyn
Oh, yeah. No, no, no, no.
Kit Keenan
You're older than me.
Danielle Carolyn
Sorry, when I said same age, I meant, like, same grade. You know what I mean?
Kit Keenan
I thought you were younger than me.
Brooke Michio
You guys know Danielle and I love the good things in life. We love luxury. Let's just be honest. Okay, we love it. But I am trying to be a little bit more intentional about spending a little less. I just have a lot more expenses in my life these days. I gotta. I. I gotta slow down. But that doesn't mean that I want to, like, cut back on, like, all the Luxurious things that I know and love. And that is why we love Quince. Quince is truly my go to for luxury essentials at affordable prices. They offer a range of high quality items at prices that are just within reach. I love Quinn's guys. They have a hundred percent Mongolian cashmere sweaters from like $50 washable silk tops and dresses, organic cotton sweaters and even 14 karat gold jewelry. And the best part is that all Quince Items are priced 50 to 80% less than other brands. You might be like, how literally, how are they doing that? Berkeley, please tell me they are partnering directly with the top factories. So they are cutting out the cost of the middleman and passing that savings on to us. And it's a big savings. Okay. I have some wonderful sweaters from Quince that I love. As we go into spring, I have some, like, lighter sweaters that I can, you know, wear open with the butt, like, you know, the button up ones. I have some really nice silk tops from them. When I went to Italy last year, I kind of did like a capsule wardrobe situation from Quinn's because I love their linen so much and it's just so easy to pack. Love that my bedding is from Quinn's. I mean, I could just go on and on. I love quince. It's great. It's great for the wallet. Okay, so give yourself the luxury you deserve with quintessential quince. You can shop Old Navy Studio Smooth collection in store and online@old navy.com.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, I thought you were the grade younger than me.
Danielle Carolyn
I thought we were the same grade.
Kit Keenan
But then sometimes these days I like you. Don't forget how old I am.
Danielle Carolyn
No, I. I mean, I feel like we're all just the same age.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
And then I'm like, it's interesting because.
Kit Keenan
Like, in our work world, like, I can't tell anymore. Like, sometimes I'll go on trips and I'm like, or just be at events and I'm like, this person could be 30 or this person could be not.
Brooke Michio
Legally able to drink.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Yeah, I've had that happen too where they're like, I can't. I'm like, yeah. And I literally have an outof body experience when that happens. Actually, I'm like, I legitimately thought you're older than me just because of the way they carry themselves. Like, people are very mature. I'm like, wow.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Wow. Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Anyways, yeah, that happened to me the other day. Yeah, yeah, it's definitely happened. Let's talk about New York influencer. I love our group. Yeah, I. I feel so blessed.
Kit Keenan
Same.
Danielle Carolyn
To like have like, I really do. Brooke, where are you looking at me?
Brooke Michio
No, I completely. Well, it's a hot topic this week.
Danielle Carolyn
Obviously.
Brooke Michio
I was like, oh, no. But I mean, it's always a hot topic. I just feel like this week specifically.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, no, no, it definitely is. But it's also like, I don't think a lot of. I feel really grateful that like when we go to any event or anything, like, there's so many people and faces and I feel like we're still constantly like meeting new people every day.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. It's interesting because like, I grew up, up in the blogger era of New York influencers. And I like, it was some. It was something navy. It was Danielle Bernstein. Like, it was the real. When they were really breaking boundaries, like sitting front row at shows and things. And I remember being like, oh, how's this gonna play out? And like the fashion industry was really not accepting of, like, influencers as a category. They weren't even called influencers at the time. They were bloggers. Yeah. And then over, like since high school, I have just seen the whole industry like explode. And to me it's always been like super exciting to see because when I moved back to New York, when I transferred to nyu, it was, it was very cool to be like going to events and being like, oh, now there, there's this whole tick tock universe and like there's people who are blowing up overnight and now they're like becoming super, super successful. And like, how do I learn from them and how do I, you know, adapt and continue to like grow my business? And it's been cool to see just like how that change has happened.
Danielle Carolyn
I'm sure. Yeah, you've really seen it totally change. Yeah, we all like, came the. I feel like, no, it came in hot.
Brooke Michio
I'm curious from the lens of like, even your mom and like just the experiences you've had with your mom because your mom's a very popular fashion designer. Like, when did she start implementing like, or even being like, oh, influencers are a thing now? Like, I feel like your mom was like really ahead of the times with things like that.
Kit Keenan
My mom is a very, I feel like she's sometimes felt when we've had conversations about her career. Yeah, I feel like sometimes she feels almost like an outsider to the fashion industry. And that is for a number of reasons. Because number one, she doesn't have like a classic business model. She does drops, so she doesn't do like seasons and have like sort of a classic model of showing clothes. And I think she, because she licensed her name to, she licensed to Target, she licensed to tjx, which is like part of TJ Maxx. And so I think she has always had sort of like a different view of the fashion industry and also like a more flexible view. She is never like, I'm a super fancy fashion designer and like, I know better about style and things. She's always been like, what's next, next? How do I keep evolving my business? What is like cool and different that I can incorporate? And so she was always like, when she started to see bloggers, influencers being influential to buyers, she's like, okay, how do I tap into this? Like, how do I these people feel a part of my brand and like, how do I bring them in? And then also I ended up being like, oh, I want to do this for work. And so she was like, okay, now I have to.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, you know, it's really cool I'll never forget. It was, like, the week before I was moving to New York, and I know a few of us had gotten invited on the Cynthia Rally surf camp. And I was freaking out. I was like, oh, my God. And I feel like she was one of the first, like you said, like, designers that really was leaning into it, at least, like, from my perspective, like, in that way. Like, it was kind of. It is like a brand trip, and it's something that she's done for a lot of years of, like, people that maybe are, like, new faces or, like, new to the scene into New York. And I. I think it's the coolest thing. And I always love seeing, like, who's going that year.
Kit Keenan
Yeah, I think it's. I think my mom is, like, a good example of a designer who is accepting of influencers. And I think she just sees, like, the value in what we can bring to a fashion brand.
Brooke Michio
I completely agree, by the way. I just wanted you to flex on your mom for a second.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, she's literally the best.
Brooke Michio
And she's just such a good.
Danielle Carolyn
So nice.
Brooke Michio
I know. House.
Danielle Carolyn
Seriously, can we see her? Like, she's just always holding, like, a bouquet of flowers or, like, I don't know.
Kit Keenan
She's always just so jolly. He though, like, in the best way. Like, tonight we're going to this public art fund gala, and the theme is. I think it's sleepover is, like, the official theme. And I could.
Danielle Carolyn
So.
Kit Keenan
So I'm thinking, like, you know, I might wear, like, a lace slip gowns. Yeah, like that. Like, something that has some elements of, like, a nightgown in it. My mom. My mom goes, I'm wearing sheer men's pajamas. And then I got these slippers, and they're like those huge, puffy slippers. Yeah, plush slippers. And she's like, I cut the bottoms out, and I'm forming them into my heels so that they become heels themselves.
Brooke Michio
I cannot wait.
Kit Keenan
Just like, how do you think of these things?
Danielle Carolyn
That's sick. If our moms came to us with that. Mom, you're not allowed out of you.
Brooke Michio
Somewhere, do an evaluation. Mom.
Kit Keenan
She is these visions. But then at the same time, I'm sometimes like, mom.
Danielle Carolyn
She's just your mom at the end of the day.
Kit Keenan
Please.
Danielle Carolyn
No.
Kit Keenan
I remember, like, we were in. We were in London for New Year's. And I remember she, like, she's like, oh, what should I wear for New Year's Eve? She gives my sister and I, like, a bunch of options. And they're all, like, feathers with like, like prints on secrets and we're just like, how about like something chill, you know?
Danielle Carolyn
So funny.
Kit Keenan
It's funny.
Danielle Carolyn
That's how you break in the industry.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
How you stand out. I always think this is so funny. I've started watching the Kardashians again and it's funny. Like, Kim Kardashian's kids get embarrassed of her. Like, like, they're like, wait, you're literally my mom. Like, stop. Don't come to my birthday party. Or like, stuff like that. Which is like, your mom is literally Kim Kardashian, but at the end of the day, they're just your mom. And like, it's cute.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. And like, tone it down. Maybe. No plush slippers.
Danielle Carolyn
I really hope she does that though. And I do need to see these photos. Yeah, I'm sure there'll be something around. Check Getty Images later tonight on the web. I'm looking. Yeah, I love doing that.
Brooke Michio
But circling back to the New York City influencers conversation, then. Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah. How Kit, how do you like? Because you know that Jake Shane sound right now, that's trending. It's like, I think I have pretty thick skin and like, like, actually, no, you're porous. As that's Brooke and I. Like, we think we have really thick skin and then like, no, actually we don't. And I feel like you're really good at like staying true to you and like not caring what other people say or think.
Kit Keenan
I mean, at the end of the day, like, I care what affects my business. So if, like, I'm getting negative comments, I try to adapt to things that are like, actually, like feedback. Yeah, actually good feedback. Because at the end of the day, like, I want to serve my audience in the best way that I can and I want to continue to grow my business. So it's those sorts of comments that I really do, like, I actually appreciate because I know that, like, it will help me in the long run. But then at the end of the day, like, we all know the comments that are like, you're ugly. You look like a 12 year old boy that I got. I literally looked on my way here and I like posted a workout video and it was like one girl being like, you look like a 12 year old. All this working out and you still look like a 12 year old boy.
Danielle Carolyn
Wow. Our comments are just so different. We each have our own thing that people dig at us.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. But like, at the end of the day, it's like, that is not constructive in any way. So it's like true it's not really helpful. And those are the types of things that, like, obviously, ouch. That hurts. But it's like, I can brush those off more easily than if someone's, like, leaving a comment that actually has to do with, like, my overall brand or, like, something that I could really change that I'm like, okay, I could be doing better in this area. You know, if people are like, you haven't shared a cooking video in a week. And I'm like, okay, yeah, that is my brand. Like, yeah, I should get on that. You know, you guys are right, right, right. Something like that.
Danielle Carolyn
It's like, sticking to your brand and like, yeah. Listening to people's feedback about those things that you are passionate about.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. I think it's like, you know, at the end of the day when something really hurts because you're insecure about it? Because it's something that's like, I know I have been slacking in this area, and people are pointing it out, and I have been wanting to get back on it. It in. In this way. Then it's like, okay, I. I should take that into it.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, no, 100%. I think that's a really nice way to look at it. It's like, okay, is this constructive criticism that I can actually use, or is it someone just having a bad day and really wanting to be mean to me?
Kit Keenan
Also, something that I always come back to is, if you wouldn't let them into your home, don't. Don't let them into your head. And I feel like when I. When I bring up up some comments that I've been getting to, like, my family or my manager or someone that, like, actually cares about me that I would let into my home then. And they're like, oh, you know, that's a. That's something to think about. Then I'm like, okay, let's. Let's change this up.
Brooke Michio
Yeah, that's a good point. To kind of bounce it off of people who you do trust, like, and get there. Their feedback. Right? Yes. Yeah. Feedback. No. But I feel like we always say we hate because people love to throw it to Danielle. And I, like, you girls are so confident. Like, what makes you so confident? But, like, we feel like it's sometimes, like, in a back end.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah. It's like, oh, I'm so confident.
Kit Keenan
How are you so confident?
Brooke Michio
I know. Like, how are you so. You shouldn't be so confident. How. How do you override that?
Kit Keenan
No, like, all right.
Brooke Michio
But it would. In that way of saying, like, I feel like you are very Much so. So I feel like you've always been this way ever since I knew you. Like, you were very, like, sure of yourself, it feels like.
Danielle Carolyn
And not in, like, a direction, you're saying.
Brooke Michio
No, no, I'm trying to say, like, I'm trying to phrase it in a way. I'm saying that people say it doesn't. We read it that way, but feel like you've always been totally. Or at least that's, like, facing. At least to me, that's how it's always shown. Like, that you're very sure of yourself and your decisions and your brand, I guess. And I feel like that is what. What guides sort of like, the. The confidence, though.
Kit Keenan
Like, I probably. I think maybe looking at me online, like, I'm not going to show myself being insecure, but I definitely am. Like, I definitely falter, and I definitely, like, spiral and question my entire career sometimes. But I also.
Danielle Carolyn
Normal.
Brooke Michio
I was gonna say that's a month for me.
Danielle Carolyn
So, yeah, we're on track, aligned.
Kit Keenan
But I also think those moments. First off, I think there's two I. I think of, like, my confidence in two separate sectors. One is, like, my personal life and my looks, and then one is my work life. And when it comes to, like, my personal life and my looks, I think I do some things to make myself feel confident, which is, like, I work out when I'm, like, not feeling my best. I, like, get back on eating in a healthy way and, like, being consistent with my sleep schedule and my workout schedule. That all of those routines, like, that makes me 20 million times more confident. And, like, when I'm traveling or I'm just, like, out of routine, I can feel myself falter in some ways.
Brooke Michio
Ever since I started wearing skims, specifically the bras and underwear, I literally can't shut up about them. Guys. I have replaced almost everything. I'm in the process of replacing everything in my top drawer at this point with the skims bras and underwear, it feels like I'm wearing nothing at all. I've gotten everyone to try them. They're that good. You need these in your life. Okay. Like, this is, like, the perfect foundational piece. And talk about foundational piece bras. Okay. I've always struggled to find the perfect bra. One that has lift but doesn't look like it's like, oh, my gosh, so crazy, you know, boobs in your face, whatever. But, like, skims fits everybody. T shirt bra. This is the bra. I can't stop wearing it. I wear it underneath all of my. It's Literally my everyday bra. Like, I have, I have multiple of these. I wear it every single day. It's underneath all of my T shirts, my sweaters. I just feel like it has such great lift. It also, like, is really smooth. I don't have any bulging. Like I said, it just literally. Big girl boob approved. Okay, like, I'm. Kit Keenan
I'm Stassi Schroeder and honestly, you never know who or what you might hear on my podcast.
Brooke Michio
Asked Stassi because, well, I'm a little cray cray.
Kit Keenan
One of the ways you know you have grown is when you come to.
Danielle Carolyn
The realization that Carrie Bradshaw is kind.
Kit Keenan
Of the worst person.
Brooke Michio
I've had to explain to her that.
Kit Keenan
The fireplace grows so that Santa can fit in it. Now she's gonna be like, well, there is no fireplace and we're in this hotel and I'm gonna have to explain her. I don't know.
Danielle Carolyn
He gets a hotel room key.
Kit Keenan
Like, all these things that you have to come up with, it's just kind of crazy. Should I bring a whistle to wherever I go? Do you think that that would be.
Brooke Michio
The thing to break the ice Whistle? Listen up. Every single one of us here is feeling some level of social anxiety. So let's just get on with it, okay? Take a breath, relax.
Kit Keenan
So please do me a fave. Listen, follow rate, and review my podcast dossi wherever you get your podcasts. I also remind myself, like, is this a hormonal thing? Because normally it is, like, true. Then I will go back to my work life and that I feel like in moments that I'm feeling really insecure. That's when I really try to go back to the gratitude part because, like, at the end of the day, our job is like, truly the biggest gift ever. And when I am feeling, like, scared or unsure, insecure, I try to think of, like, okay, what have I achieved so far? What am I proud of in my career so far? What am I thankful for? Because, like, most people would kill to have this job. And I tell, like, literally everyone who's like, I kind of want to start posting. Like, should I start posting? I'm like, please do it. Like there's enough space for all of us. That's something that I've realized. Like, like, and even like in the conversation online right now about like who should be popular online, I'm like there, you can do it too. Like there's enough space for all of us. We all have different brands, different audiences. Like I feel I have confidence that the industry will continue to grow and there will be enough space for every type of influencer and, and at the same time when I'm like, how do I fit in? I'm flopping right now. My views aren't good. Then I just come back to what have I achieved, where am I going? And what can I be grateful for in this moment? And that helps me so much.
Danielle Carolyn
That was so well said.
Brooke Michio
Yeah, that's a very, it's a good message to remind yourself to come back to that.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah. The gratitude of it all. And just like so many people would literally kill to do this and like if that means getting some, some mean messages or bad views that day, like it is so okay.
Kit Keenan
I also like I was talking to a friend of mine recently and she was like, like I've had a bad few months. Like I, I was calling her recently because I was like I'm really having a bad week. Like my views are so down. Like what do I do? And she was like I've had a bad few months. Like it might be a bad few months. And I was like, like yeah. Huh. That kind of like let me have like a little bit of like a breath out and just like a moment. Cuz I was just like, you know what? I'm. And I'm going to get through it, like and I'm going to get through it and like it might take a while but like I will find my groove again and like I will be super inspired again and like feel good and at the end of the day like I have, have an amazing family. I live in like the best city in the world. I am young, I'm healthy, I have an amazing fun relationship, I have great friends. Like that's the stuff that really matters and like as long as I'm continuing to grow, I'm good.
Danielle Carolyn
Amen sister.
Brooke Michio
That's a good message. I know. It's all about when you put the phone down, what you have. Because truly sometimes it could feel like so present. Like that's like just everything and then you literally like shut your phone or, or Just off your phone for the night and you're like, actually, everything's gonna be okay after.
Danielle Carolyn
Look up.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Wow. Everyone in my life doesn't hate me.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
It's so nice, like when you like feel like, oh my God, the world is like, you know, if you get a mean message or something, it's like, wait, I don't even know that person. And here I am sitting next to my boyfriend of six years, you know, whatever it is.
Kit Keenan
And it's also like, gotta remind ourselves of the people that have followed us and like, been there for years and years and years who will like, continue to support us. Like, I. And I know, like, specifically for you guys because you do YouTube and it's like you're showing so much of your life in this long form way. Like, people are so loving and there for you and like, like I feel that love also in my community and like, I'm just so thankful for that. Even if it's like, you know, hundreds of people instead of thousands of people or hundreds of thousands of people, like, if I have those, like ride or dies, like, I'm so happy with that.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, it's seriously so cool. Like when we've been doing these live shows and stuff, like the people that we meet that are like, I've been watching you guys since you were in high school. Like, holy, thank you so much for sticking around for that long and like, not faltering and just always been so supportive. Like, it, it's so cool. And have it as R or dies. Like, these are who we care about.
Brooke Michio
Going back to what you said, kid, about like, there's room for everybody at the table. And I truly agree. Have you guys seen the brand flakes, like pay transparency video?
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Did you see him do that? And I saw that there was a lot of like commentary on it. Like people being like, this is impossible, this is possible. I, I mean, I just see the amount of new creators who come into our space or even literally just even the New York City orbit every single year. Because it's probably, it's been like four years or five years now. I'm telling you that it's possible because I feel like I sat next to some people at brunches, they've risen to told me, oh, I don't know if I can quit my job. And now like, I'm like, you are literally, you have three houses. So letting you know that like this is possible 1000%.
Danielle Carolyn
I think, think, yeah, it's.
Brooke Michio
And I always try to encourage people too, to start like whenever It's. And if you. Maybe I always, like, remind myself that, like, when I'm jealous or envious of something cool someone's doing in their career, it's because I am seeking that opportunity, too. Right. Like, it's because, you know, like, oh, I. So I need to, you know, channel that into my work or whatever. But I feel like it's the same for. If you're, like, seeing influencers and you're like, oh, I'm, you know. Oh, my gosh. Like, it. You know, maybe you're frustrated, or maybe it's, like, feels discouraging because you're, you know, in your nine to five. Like, it's like, literally. Why not try? Yeah, why not try it and see?
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, try. If it's something that, like, you want to do and, like, lean into that instead of being, you know, whatever about it.
Kit Keenan
Yeah. Totally agree.
Brooke Michio
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah. Next week's episode's gonna be really interesting because Kit and I are going on a break.
Kit Keenan
Yes. I'm so excited, Danielle. Speaking of amazing opportunities and being very grateful, I'm so excited we're going to Paris with dsw. I don't know if you guys.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, it'll be up. It'll be up, like, right after our trip, so.
Kit Keenan
But I'm really excited. It's gonna be so fun.
Danielle Carolyn
I'm so honored to go on one of these trips. We're gonna be FaceTiming Brook in. Brooke's going on vacation, too, actually.
Brooke Michio
Yeah. I'm going to St. Vincent. Have you ever been?
Kit Keenan
I've been once when I was younger, and it's like, oh, my God. It's so amazing.
Brooke Michio
It's so very excited. To the juxtaposition of the trips. Like, yeah, you guys are gonna be.
Danielle Carolyn
Brook's gonna.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
With her mark, and we'll be. With our win. It'll be great. No, it's gonna. I feel like hopefully I'll have some fun stories to tell, and we'll. We'll create some memories together.
Brooke Michio
The other day, I was on FaceTime with Danielle, and she goes, oh, there was a knock on her door, and she goes and gets it. She goes, all I heard was, oh, my God, I need to get my phone. And she runs back over to the computer. She goes, there is a mime at my door. There's a mime.
Danielle Carolyn
Oh, did you not mime or were you not? Okay, this DSW sent a mime, by the way.
Brooke Michio
We'll put pictures.
Danielle Carolyn
Yes.
Brooke Michio
I was like, oh, my computer. I like, oh, my God.
Danielle Carolyn
I put my computer up. So Brooke could watch this happen.
Brooke Michio
Oh my God, it's so funny.
Kit Keenan
Okay, I saw your video and my problem is that I get all my PR sent to my mom's studio cuz.
Brooke Michio
I live at home, so did a.
Kit Keenan
M show, M definitely showing up in my mom's studio. And I just got a basket, which I'm like, very happy about. I got my bread, so.
Danielle Carolyn
No, it's really mine. Yeah, it was so. It was so creative. My doorman too. So, like, my doorman always call up and say, like, hey, blah blah is heading up. Unless it's literally Ryan. And I had no call. So all of a sudden I get a knock on the door. And I did know that, like, someone was coming, but I didn't know what. And it was literally just the mime. Like, he did not speak, whatever. And so I'm thinking, wait, was it awkward?
Kit Keenan
Oh my God, it was so awkward.
Danielle Carolyn
I feel like I would be like, no.
Brooke Michio
And then she's like, look, my friend's on Facebook.
Kit Keenan
I'm like.
Danielle Carolyn
I wish I got that in my video. And she's, oh, it's great.
Brooke Michio
And he's just like kind of waving like. It was.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, it was. I was like, brooke, one sec. We're literally on a business call. I'm like, I think there's someone at my door. And so. But anyways, he goes downstairs. And then I'm like, oh, my God, that means my doorman, like, saw this guy too.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
The next morning I was headed out and I shared a laugh with my doorbed. I was like, so the mime, he was like, yeah, are we gonna talk about that? I was like, yeah, so I'm going on this trip. And he was like, yeah, I guess someone from dsw, like, came in with the M and said like, escorted, you know, because I don't think he was speaking.
Kit Keenan
I was gonna ask, like, how did he then get access to your building?
Brooke Michio
Oh, he's.
Kit Keenan
He breaks character.
Brooke Michio
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Saying the numbers.
Brooke Michio
Oh, my God.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, he. I guess they walked in like, this is a PR thing for Danielle Carolyn, like, if she's expecting someone. But he was like, in my whole time working here, I've never met her mime.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
Thank you for giving me that experience. They've seen it all. Truly. It was so funny. Like, did you explain?
Brooke Michio
So did you tell your doorman, like, I'm going on this branch?
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah. I said, like, trip.
Brooke Michio
They know your whole lore.
Danielle Carolyn
They know everything. Yeah, Just every. I'm. I'm like, so much an oversharer, though, like, with my past dormant I would just like, not talk about. But with these, I'm like, so this is why that happened.
Brooke Michio
Like, I was like hunched over the desk.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Like, I see you're like, oh, what a day today.
Kit Keenan
You. I feel like from my understanding you're expecting to stay at this apartment for a while.
Danielle Carolyn
Yes.
Kit Keenan
So I feel like it's nice to have.
Danielle Carolyn
I want to create that.
Brooke Michio
It's like family.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
I love. I love that apartment so much. I never want to leave. So I'm like, like, you know, getting in with my dorman.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
So you know. Yeah, that's 100%.
Kit Keenan
Why?
Danielle Carolyn
And I just like, I don't know. They're always so talkative. So I'm like, let's chat. Like today I was shooting photos and I had to shoot five different outfits. So they saw me in five outfits today. And whenever it's P, they call it picture day. They're like, oh, it's picture day today.
Brooke Michio
So five outfits? You.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, five, Five dresses. So it was like easier but like, you know, in and out. In and out.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio
You're having a fashion show. They're probably having a lot of fun. Oh my God. You should do one of those where it's like doorman rate. My. My out. Have you not seen. No.
Danielle Carolyn
I wrote down this idea to do like. You know, it's like my boyfriend filmed me walking out of our hotel every day.
Brooke Michio
My dorm and filming.
Danielle Carolyn
I was going to do that. But you should do dorm.
Brooke Michio
Like, you know, people do boyfriend rates. My outfits, they get a 10 every time. Cuz it's like.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, obviously tens.
Brooke Michio
But you should have.
Danielle Carolyn
I. If, if they're. Do you think they're like loud? Cuz I so would do that.
Kit Keenan
Like, what's your.
Brooke Michio
I love. What's going on?
Kit Keenan
Yeah. Holding 10.
Danielle Carolyn
I make like Dancing with the Stars Paddle girls. Yeah.
Brooke Michio
Too good. So funny. Wow. Okay. Well, I can't wait to hear about Paris though.
Danielle Carolyn
Yeah, we're gonna have a great time. Bring it back. We'll bring the whole group.
Kit Keenan
No.
Danielle Carolyn
Okay, we'll recap it.
Brooke Michio
Yeah. And really hear more about. About brand trips and everything.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Danielle Carolyn
You know, Kit, where can everyone follow you and find you?
Kit Keenan
Everyone can follow me at Kit Keenan on Tick Tock and Instagram and Snapchat.

Brooke Michio
So Snapchat's back.
Kit Keenan
I'm loving Snapchat. I'm loving Snapchat.
Brooke Michio

Kit Keenan
Use too, sometimes. Yeah. I like a bit of both.
Brooke Michio
I think I need to add you on Snapchat.
Kit Keenan
Yeah.
Brooke Michio

Danielle Carolyn
You know, I need to add you as well. Yeah, I do. After we spoke, it's.
Kit Keenan

She discusses how influencers have become an integral part of the fashion and marketing industries, especially through collaborations and brand partnerships.
