It's a world of artificial intelligence, of limited character tweets, of mini clips on TikTok. My name's Mishke, and the Mishke Podcast offers something wholly different. The lost art of simple human storytelling. Whether humorous tales, absurd narratives or real drama, telling stories is my stock in trade. So escape to the very human Mishki Podcast wherever you get your podcasts. Everybody talked about it since I first moved to Oregon. The big one. The earthquake that trashed the whole West Coast. Total destruction.
John Haidt
Officially calling it the largest natural disaster in American history.
Joe Soucheray
I just didn't know what would help me next. So I took it all. Even the gun. It was time Cello see why American Afterlife is the number one fiction and drama podcast in America. Josh Arnold, investment consultant, brings you Garage logic podcast number 1783. May 21, 2026. I am declaring my lilacs bloomed a little early. Four days early, maybe. 92 degrees. The record high on this day, which I don't understand because it's been such a cool spring.
Kenny Olson
It has been a cool spring.
Joe Soucheray
92 degrees.
Mishke
Oh, man, I got it.
Kenny Olson
I'm done with this wind. By the way, it can start. It's like North Dakota out here. Enough already.
Joe Soucheray
92 degrees. The record high in this day and night. That was in 1964 and it was 33 degrees on this day in 1997. Do yourself a favor and call Josh Arnold at 952-925-5608 and have a chat with him. It's a free 48 minute consultation.
Chris Reivers
Hail the Flashlight King.
Joe Soucheray
Hail you. And now, from the mayor's office above the boathouse on the east shore of Spoon Lake, it's Garagelogic with Chris Reivers manning technology corner, Kenny Olson from the crabby coffee. John Height in the newsroom. And of course the rookie here is your flashlight king, fireworks commissioner and the keeper of common sense, your mayor, Joe Susher. You know our demo derby driver, the GL Demo derby driver, a guy named Matt. And I think he's. Despite his insistence that he has not, I think he has suffered a couple of concussions.
Kenny Olson
Really?
Joe Soucheray
Well, because he writes. Just checking to see what time you'll kick off the summer at the state fair grounds this weekend. A Joe and Pat segment at the kickoff to summer would be a great start to the holiday weekend.
Kenny Olson
It's the car show, Joe.
Joe Soucheray
No, there's no car show, Matt.
Chris Reivers
No, it's the. The. The pre.
Joe Soucheray
It's the pre Fair. It's the foreplay.
Kenny Olson
Right.
Joe Soucheray
It's the foreplay to the fair.
Kenny Olson
By the way, I'm Kenny, not Matt.
John Haidt
Everybody in that conversation there sounded senile. First Kenny forgets about the kickoff, then Joe calls him Matt.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, let me say we're at.
Joe Soucheray
Let me say one of the most sanest things that's going to be on the show today. Not possible. Is that I think your car guy Matt suffered one too many malachi crunches. That's it. Yep. Matt, we ain't going to be there. Now. You'll recall the.
Kenny Olson
When is that car show?
Joe Soucheray
Are you talking about back to the 50s?
Kenny Olson
No, the. The other. Yeah, maybe I am. I don't know what I'm talking about.
John Haidt
Okay, you know what?
Kenny Olson
I'll see you guys tomorrow.
Joe Soucheray
Sound like me? Remember yesterday I had the counter to the Doom newsletter from Chris in Best Fargo and he writes a clarification. Much like the Twin Cities. We were wondering, why does he call it the Best Fargo? Much like the Twin Cities, the Fargo metropolitan area is comprised of several abutting but separate municipalities with different mayors, city councils, building codes, police departments, et cetera. Among those municipalities are two Fargos, Fargo and West Fargo. One Fargo is a lot like GL while the other is liberal lakes. To avoid being confused with those gender fluid blue haired mysterion baristas, we like to establish the geographic delineation by emphasizing that we're from Best Fargo, which is West Fargo.
Kenny Olson
West Fargo, Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
Good luck, Chris in Best Fargo. P.S. my dad, Ken was childhood pals with John's older brother Dick. John, do you have an older brother Dick?
John Haidt
Yeah, that's the one who just passed away. The news director slash gm. What's the last name?
Joe Soucheray
Height. No, what? Last name of the person.
John Haidt
Oh my God.
Kenny Olson
We are Sitting at the old folks home.
Joe Soucheray
I watch Jello.
Mishke
Oh, my word.
Chris Reivers
For the record, my mic has been off this entire time.
Kenny Olson
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
There's no last names involved.
John Haidt
Here was. I thought yesterday.
Joe Soucheray
Can I finish the email, John, before you get all worked up?
John Haidt
I think he said, P.S.
Joe Soucheray
my dad, Ken.
John Haidt
Yeah, Carl's. I think, probably.
Joe Soucheray
Okay.
John Haidt
Anyway, put a little.
Joe Soucheray
Your rocker squeaking. My dad, Ken was childhood pal with John's older brother Dick. There's a good chance he was also John's middle school or high school band teacher in Mandan.
John Haidt
Ken. Carl's. Wonderful. Yes.
Joe Soucheray
Did he go nuts? I wonder. He was a band teacher. They all go nuts.
John Haidt
Well, he did kind of. He became a Republican representative.
Joe Soucheray
Sorry.
John Haidt
See, that was just too easy.
Joe Soucheray
You know what? It was just. It was an underhanded pitch, wasn't it?
Kenny Olson
John, that was a home run.
John Haidt
No, Ken's a really good guy. I actually saw him at Dick's funeral.
Joe Soucheray
Did he die?
John Haidt
No, he's still live. I saw him at the funeral.
Kenny Olson
No, don't get into who died now.
John Haidt
And he also is. We talked about confirmation names. I told you guys. Mine was Kennedy. He was my confirmation sponsor. Ken.
Joe Soucheray
Carl. That's as inventive as you came up with was Ken.
John Haidt
I didn't get to make it up. I had to take his name. You guys said you made yours up. I never had that.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, yeah. We get to choose our own. That's why Johnny left the church. He was forcing me.
Kenny Olson
What are you talking about?
Joe Soucheray
When you get confirmed you got a
Kenny Olson
Catholic church, bring in a bishop.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, I just went to one Sunday. What? Bishop Hebdo ran the whole deal. Wow.
Chris Reivers
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
Okay. Archbishop of Hebdo. You know who mine was? John de Bosco, because he was a juggler. Who was yours? I went with Peter Rock. You know, that's not. That's not out of the box. You know.
John Haidt
You guys got to choose a saint. Is that what you're saying?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah. I never.
John Haidt
I never. There was never.
Joe Soucheray
You had to choose your band teacher.
John Haidt
I never had. Yeah. Didn't you have to have somebody represent you?
Joe Soucheray
I don't recall. I do not recall. That's getting to be Grandpa Red. Well, Matt, I was answering. Oh. And my answer. My answer is I have no idea. How do you not know that? It was a long time ago. It was the bishop that gave you this serum. The ointment. The only one.
Kenny Olson
I don't know you Catholics. Bishop Kenny, this is why we were told to pray for you.
John Haidt
Just let me say it was nice to hear from Ken's Kid, then. I don't know Ken's kid, but apparently
Kenny Olson
I'm very familiar with West Fargo, and he's. Fargo is G. Ellers town compared to Fargo proper.
Joe Soucheray
You in the back.
Chris Reivers
And for those of you trying desperately to follow along with this storyline here in GL, just. I'll have you know, we glossed over something very, very unique in GL in which Joe asked John Height if the emailer who sent him the letter had also died.
John Haidt
He did.
Kenny Olson
And.
John Haidt
And I had just said I saw him at my brother's funeral in November. Is he. Did he die?
Joe Soucheray
I guess. I guess he would have money.
Kenny Olson
Well, that all started with John's brother and then John's other brother's wife. And Joe never did get any of that straight. I'm remember that.
Joe Soucheray
I'm not any less confused than I was two minutes ago. Oh, hi.
Mishke
I'm Larry.
Chris Reivers
Here's my brother Dale.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, my other brother, Larry. Daryl. And Daryl. So we lost Dick, huh?
John Haidt
Back in November.
Joe Soucheray
Should have hots. I'm sorry.
Chris Reivers
Unfortunately.
Joe Soucheray
Should I get the heavy stuff out of the way? Yeah, because I. I sense the. The mood of the staff is.
Kenny Olson
Do that tirade about pills. I think we can all get behind you on that one.
Joe Soucheray
No.
Kenny Olson
Oh, all right. Don't do it then.
Joe Soucheray
I think the mood of the staff is tenuous. I think holding your attention is somewhat up in the air right now.
Mike Schoonover
I would agree.
Chris Reivers
Wait till tomorrow.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, yeah, it's. It is fricking party time. We might not even go on the council tomorrow. I can link an email, a local email from Jeff Murkowski, whose emails we've read previously. I can link that to the mayor of Seattle. Oh, Jeff writes, I'm posting this in response to Wednesday's show when you said that you were no longer going to let things bother you and just shrug your shoulders and agree that two plus two equals five. Well, it reminded me of something else you say quite often, and that is that everyone has their number. You, of course, are referring to the price of gas, but I'm going to use that phrase in a different context. Everybody also has their number. When it comes to being able to shrug off the nonsense that is ever growing in our once great state and no longer being able to tolerate two plus two equals five and living right in the heart of Minneapolis as I do, I hit that number quite a while ago. That's why I sent something to you a few weeks ago that you kindly read on the air, stating that now is the time to stop being complacent and get serious about what we can all do to turn this ship around. And my message to you all was to start paying attention to who we are voting for and make sure the ones we do support have the right stuff to get us back on track. And yes, the closer one lives to the tallest buildings, the sooner one will hit their number. For you see, Minneapolis is the canary in the coal mine and it has gone woozy, fallen from its perch and is on life support, lying on the litter strewn at the bottom of the cage. Block that metaphor. So I again implore you and the glers out there to not shrug things off because it is just a matter of time when you two will hit your number. The time is now to start paying attention to who to vote for. Complacency on this matter got us into this mess and more complacency will steal our fate. Gl Jeff now let me link that to the Mayor of Seattle. This is my deep these are going to be my deep thoughts for the day. You're going heavy. The mayor of Seattle is a gal named Katie Wilson, who's a socialist, and she has garnered some national attention for her immaturity. Her parents pay her bills. She's not much of an achiever, but she won because nobody was paying attention. She won the mayor's seat in Seattle, which used to be a hell of a town, and now she's really backpedaling hard to try to prevent Starbucks from moving its headquarters because God knows how many people they employ in Seattle. She's also backpedaling because REI might move their headquarters, the outdoor clothing and camping deal. So she's working back. Katie Wilson is walking back her comments urging consumers to boycott Starbucks because that that arose from her backing the idea that the clerks in the coffee shop should be unionized. Okay, you know, and then the owners of Starbucks might be oppressors. Yes. Wilson is a Democratic socialist elected last year on a progressive labor backed platform. She told the New York Times this week the comments she made during a Starbucks worker strike last fall was were not productive. Those comments were not productive in the sense that they caused more harm than good, wilson said. The remarks marked a notable shift in tone from comments Wilson made shortly after winning Seattle's mayoral race in November when she joined Starbucks workers on a picket line outside the companies because she had nothing else to do. She's not worried about plows and potholes. She joined the workers on a picket line outside the company's former Reserve Roastery on Capitol Hill and urged residents to boycott the hometown coffee chain. I'm not buying Starbucks and you should not either. Wilson said at the rally. She later led protesters in chants supporting striking workers. At the time, several unionized Starbucks workers in Seattle and other cities were striking amid stalled contract negotiat negotiations with the company. To which I would say, get over it. If that's all you're gonna do in life is pour coffee, good luck to you. I'm being judgmental, aren't I? Yes, you are. I think the claims that millionaires are gonna leave our state are like super overblown. And if you know the ones that leave like bye. So that's Katie Wilson. The ones that leave. Play that again because that comes up in the story. This is Katie Wilson. I think the claims that millionaires are going to leave our state are like super overblown. And if you know the ones that leave like bye. So.
Chris Reivers
And listen to the applause in the background.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I'm getting that.
Kenny Olson
Just.
Joe Soucheray
That's my theory. My theory's coming up. You're going to enjoy it.
Kenny Olson
Yes, it's worth mentioning that Starbucks has only been unionized since 2021. It's been a recent development.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, I know. Where was I? Okay. Wilson's comments have resurfaced in recent weeks as concerns mount among some business leaders and local officials about Seattle's economic climate and whether increasingly progressive policies could drive employees and wealthy residents elsewhere. To which we just heard her say like bye. Those comments. Those concerns intensified after Starbucks announced plans to establish a 2,000 employee corporate hub in Nashville, Tennessee, fueling debate over whether the company could gradually shift more operations away from Seattle, where Starbucks was founded in 1971 and still maintains its global headquarters. Tennessee has increasingly attracted corporate expansions from companies seeking lower taxes, lower operating costs and a more business friendly regulatory environment than many west coast cities, or we could add, or the Twin Cities. I think that claims that millionaires are going to leave our state are super overblown. Wilson. Oh, this was at a Seattle University forum and it was just last month. And the ones that leave like bye. And everybody at the failed academy thought this was amusing. Wilson has since indicated she is trying to strike a more balanced tone towards Seattle's corporate community. The mayor told the New York Times that she now understands her comments will be closely scrutinized for signs of hostility, really toward businesses and said she hopes to maintain a multidimensional relationship. What does that mean? She wants to rip them, but she's winking at them. I don't know what that means.
Chris Reivers
Multidimensional.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, I want them here. Wilson said of Starbucks and I believe they want to be here. Doesn't sound like it. Starbucks has framed its Nashville expansion as part of a broader growth strategy rather than a departure from Seattle. In a letter to employees cited by the New York Times, Starbucks Chief Partner Officer Sarah Kelly described the Tennessee expansion as a complement to our global and North American presence in Seattle. Starbucks has also continued restructuring portions of its Seattle based workforce, including reported layoffs tied to its technology division earlier this month. And I had the letter from I said I would link this to the email from G.L. jeff who says we have to make sure we're voting for the right people. The people of Minneapolis and the people of Seattle have voted for exactly who they wanted to vote for. We. We've touched on this before, but it's time to realize that this isn't a case, whether it's Seattle electing this very immature and not competent at all mayor. She's only immature and not competent to be the mayor of a city that still believes in American tradition. The city council members elected in Minneapolis are. They're immature and not competent, but they're very mature and competent to the people who share with them their contempt for corporate America, for capitalism, for the American traditions that GL tries to hang onto. The problem isn't the wrong people are getting elected. The problem is that the citizenry, the closer you get to the country's tallest buildings, is precisely looking for those candidates, which really throws a monkey wrench into the whole deal here. It's one thing for us to come in and find great fault with Robin Wansley. Well, we're bound to. She's not our cup of tea. But she's overwhelmingly elected by, I think she's Ward 2 by citizens who find her perfectly in step with what they believe. So now the future has a completely different spin on it has a completely different look. Minneapolis is fated to take the direction it's taking because that's the direction the citizens want it to take. Hello?
John Haidt
I can't.
Kenny Olson
I've been waiting for a pause because I wanted to add something really juicy to this. You compared Katie to the city council. I want to compare her to our governor.
Joe Soucheray
Who?
Kenny Olson
Do you guys remember what he said about Tesla?
Joe Soucheray
Numerous times, completely either forgetting or unaware that the retirement fund for public employees holds millions of dollars in Tesla stock. Meanwhile, there's a Tesla offshoot, there's a Tesla satellite factory in the metropolitan area,
Kenny Olson
and he's rejoicing when that stock number is dropping.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, so. So where are we here? It's kind of pointless for us to come in and. And condemn. Jacob what's Chavez's name?
Chris Reivers
Jason.
Joe Soucheray
Jason Chavez. And Robin Wansley and ch. I call her Chuggy Chuggy Tie. These are representatives of like minded voters
Chris Reivers
who don't understand the consequences of these type of policies.
Joe Soucheray
Well, it's too generalized to say they're all failed academy graduates. No. And the reason this is true, it's now occurring to me the closer you get to the country's tallest buildings is because the closer you get to the country's tallest buildings you really don't have to do very much.
Kenny Olson
That might be an answer to the question I was about to ask.
Joe Soucheray
You don't really. You are enabled the closer you get to the country's tallest buildings to think that serving coffee at Starbucks is a career. You grow up in Wyndham or wherever. Everybody's flying the true flag. The kid working at the coffee shop is trying to make enough money to move on in life and get paid for his college or buy a car or whatever. They don't view that. It's the closer you get to the country's tallest buildings where you've had the greatest push for higher minimum wages, for example. The closer you get to the country's tallest buildings, the more comfortable it is for people who have no intention of achieving anything to have a comfortable life. And who accommodates that and who enables them? The democratic socialists of America who not only agree with them, but create the situations in which they can be enabled. They go after the evil landlords so that you can get better rent prices. They go after minimum wage situations so you can get by in life making $17 an hour of serving coffee or whatever. The mayor of Seattle was elected by people who wanted her to be the mayor of Seattle. They don't care that she's relied on her. She relied on her parents to pay her bills.
Kenny Olson
You just provided the answer before I could ask the question. I didn't realize you were going to be this good today.
Joe Soucheray
I didn't either. What's the answer?
Kenny Olson
My question was why do people that are living elbow to elbow, belly to butt always opt for socialism and communism? And you just provided that it's easier. Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
You don't have to do anything out
Kenny Olson
here where we've got some room to lift a leg and fart or pee off our front step. Yeah, Lucky.
Joe Soucheray
It's very easy to be a socialist when your biggest concern in life is where you're going to go to get a cup of coffee. Yes.
Kenny Olson
Yes. Oh, God, you nailed it.
Joe Soucheray
And so. And so now what happens? I know you're giving me the signal, but I'm on a roll.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, well. And unfortunately those people control the vote for the most part in this state,
Joe Soucheray
they control the vote, but they don't control the money. Which sets up these episod of clashing between the likes of Governor Walz and the corporations in Minnesota between the likes of Katie Wilson and Starbucks. Because the reality of life in America is that the money stems from entrepreneurs, corporate executives, people who put together businesses and hire people. That is the source of money. The socialists offer absolutely no source of money. So they're represented by the people who enable them. But that's why Katie used the word I have to create a multidimensional relationship with Starbucks. What she means is on the one hand she has to figure out how to kiss their ass while on the other hand accommodating the freeloaders who don't want her to kiss their ass. We're in a fine fettle here. And as emailer
Kenny Olson
Kevin.
Joe Soucheray
John.
Kenny Olson
Mike. Steve, Bill.
John Haidt
Jeff.
Kenny Olson
Bob. Jeff. Did he die, John?
Joe Soucheray
No. Emailer Jeff noted. We're watch. We have our own microscopic version of it here. We're watching Minneapolis is the canary in the coma and that canary is not a healthy bird right now.
Chris Reivers
You can't continue to keep having St.
Joe Soucheray
Paul is the same thing. Exactly. And we keep saying you can't keep electing these people. Well, the hell they can't. That's who they want, right?
Chris Reivers
Vote Amy in 2028. I'm with her. Or whatever it is 2026.
Joe Soucheray
Boy, Amy better live up to her promise to come in here. I will take her to task. Lisa Dama. Lisa Daymouth was going to be tomorrow Friday. But they anticipated a phone call and I said no, I'm not doing this by phone. Get in here. So let's go. Her people have put it together. She'll be here gratefully Tuesday at noon. And I want Kendall calls and I want Amy. Let's go. Here is. Are you done ranting? Well, I don't even consider that a rant. I'm teasing you. I don't. That was good. You're going to go to a break.
Kenny Olson
I think we should end the show right here. Thank you. G L. Or sort of talk to you to tomorrow.
Joe Soucheray
I have already heard, okay? I've already heard good things from G ers who have contacted IBS installed building solutions for one of these fantastic new garage floors. Here's Joe Sushere, the hippie hoople heads that bought my place in South Minneapolis, disgusted with what they've done to my yard. It's just a disaster. Remember how proud I used to be? The pride I used to have in my lawn because I was hooked up with professionalturf.com that's all gone now. You can tell they're not pro turf customers. It's not too late folks. G ollers take care of those dandelions and those weeds. Get hooked up@PropriomentTurf.com they're going to design a plan that will seriously put a kibosh on the bad and bring out all the good. They actually come and check it out and then once you're on this website, snoop around a little bit. They do wonderful landscape work. I think I might have a solution. First of all, I told you before, I had an errand to run the other night in the Cedar Riverside neighborhood. Oh yeah, who represents that?
Chris Reivers
The Cedar Riverside neighborhood is split between Two Minneapolis City council wards. Ward 2 represented by council member Robin Wansley, and Ward 6 represented by council Vice President Jamal Osmond.
Joe Soucheray
Okay. And I spent some time in that neighborhood. And it doesn't surprise me that Wansley and Osmond would be the representatives. When you take this new way we're looking at this, that's. There's. There's no room for g l ers to say, why aren't you electing a g ler? There aren't any. There ain't any. There aren't any. So here's a way to fix it.
Chris Reivers
But is that being done? I'm being very serious by saying this. I, too, drove through that area the other day when I went to the ball game. Why are they trying to drive away the likes of us? Is that what the whole point is?
Kenny Olson
That neighborhood has been poor for a long, long time with different ethnic groups.
John Haidt
True.
Kenny Olson
So it's kind of continuing on a tradition. But it's way worse than it's ever been right now.
Joe Soucheray
Okay. We're gonna have to look at this through this new lens. It's only way worse from our standpoint.
Kenny Olson
Good point.
Joe Soucheray
Yes. It's not way worse to someone who lives there. They've elected the person they want. They're getting the attention they want from the city council. And like morons, we've been sitting here saying, why aren't they fixing the streets? Or why aren't they. Why isn't that street lamp fixed? Or what's wrong with the. All the shrubbery in this park is dead. The people who elected that city can also. They don't care about those things.
Kenny Olson
It doesn't seem like it.
Joe Soucheray
They care about sustenance. They care about their landlord being put in his place by a political force that will reduce their rent. So even my solution might not work. The solution would be any gler. Any ideological sound human being, man or women, black, white, red, blue or yellow, who wants to begin to bring Minneapolis back to a state that all Glers want it returned to? Or St. Paul, for that matter. Or the state of Minnesota. They're going to have to be pretend that they're stark raving mad socialists. They'll have to out. Seriously, now I'm being serious. They'll have to out socialist Robin Wansley.
Chris Reivers
Yes.
Joe Soucheray
They'll have to say they're not left enough. Everything should be free. Exactly. You have to outlift Robin Wansley. In other words, lie to Beat Hill. Just lie. During your campaign, I. I intend to get every rent lowered. I'm going to raise the Minimum wage. I'm going to ban cars. I'm going to. I'm going to just. We're going to be world beautiful. We'll be a Marxist wonderland. This is get elected and then go.
Kenny Olson
Ha ha ha ha. This is a go into how the CIA takes over countries.
Joe Soucheray
Yes.
Mishke
You're.
Kenny Olson
I love the way you're thinking.
Joe Soucheray
Yes.
Chris Reivers
Case in point. So Joe had me look that up during the break. So when you Google a specific area, oftentimes there will be a video encompassing that area that you're looking at. Hey, I'm maybe looking at Nashville. They'll show you some of the highlights. The Cedar Riverside video description on Google is showing Walker Art center ain't in that neighborhood. Minnehaha Falls, not in that neighborhood. The Science Museum of Minnesota. Well, that's not in that neighborhood.
Joe Soucheray
All right, second part of the viewing through this new lens. There probably was a time in America. I'm not even gonna say probably. There was a time in America. The closer you got to the country's tallest buildings that those living in socioeconomic conditions that were not as good as their neighbors, for example, wanted to be as good as their neighbors. There was always a fluid movement that capitalism provides. You can be up one year, you can be down the next. You can carve your own path. You can achieve whatever you want to achieve. And that's what drove the country. It drove the country to its greatness, was the ideal of always having hope for betterment. That's gone. And now the closer you get to the country's tallest buildings, the voting populace is completely satisfied with having given up on achievement. If in fact they ever entertained the idea in the first place, they're done with it. Because it's too hard, it's too unfair, it's too oppressive. Those evil corporate presidents, they live on a lake. I have to live in this apartment. I sure expect my rent to go down if I have to live here. And on and on and on and on. They continue to vote for exactly the right people. And that's why the only way to turn it around is people are going to have to out left the left. People who want to who? People who think that Minneapolis is worth Saving or St. Paul, they're going to have to. Or Seattle, they're going to have to outlift the left. And then when they get in office, stick to GL principles. Now, that would cause people go crazy. But that's too bad.
Kenny Olson
You can still get away with it. Just don't do the aha thing.
Joe Soucheray
Right. Right.
Kenny Olson
It'll just be reflected in how you vote at council meetings.
Joe Soucheray
There is no reason to hold employers in contempt. There is no reason that Katie Wilson, other than the fact that she's terribly immature, poorly educated, still dependent on her parents, and yet the mayor. Seattle has a neat name. It's the what city?
Chris Reivers
Emerald.
Joe Soucheray
It's the Emerald City. She is the mayor of the Emerald City, a port city, a beautiful city, a thriving city, home to many, many entrepreneurs, many successful people. And they have elected an immature, poorly educated, silly person to be mayor who has scoffed at the idea of. Of these major corporations like Starbucks, when in fact, you should just as easily be proud of Starbucks for what they've achieved in the world. And it all started and remains in Seattle. That's not how she looks at the world, because she's too immature and has had no experience knowing anything except the failed academy's contempt for achievement. So therefore, these executives of Starbucks are looked at poorly. The executives of REI are looked at poorly. In the meantime, they're employing hundreds, if not thousands of people who pay the bills that this silly, immature young lady depended on her parents to pay her own bills. She has to now think, well, I can't really dismiss them entirely, but she's so stupid. And I mean that seriously. She's not bright. So she doesn't have it in her ideological makeup even to appreciate what Starbucks means to her city. She doesn't have the ideological makeup to appreciate what REI means to the city. Robin Wansley and Jason Chavez do not have the ideological makeup to understand what full office buildings mean to the city. Whether it's banking, insurance, investing, grain trading, computer technology. These are all job creators. And they don't. That's not in their worldview.
Chris Reivers
I was in that area four years ago. In fact, we own stations.
Joe Soucheray
And this happened fast in Seattle.
Chris Reivers
That's where I'm going.
Joe Soucheray
I'm not talking Seattle. I'll get right back to you.
Chris Reivers
No, no worries.
Joe Soucheray
This happened fast here because we've always used the super bowl as a kind of a marking point when the super bowl was here, and that Was what year?
Chris Reivers
2018. February of 2018.
Joe Soucheray
In February of 2018, Minneapolis was GL like, healthy, vibrant.
Chris Reivers
Yes.
Joe Soucheray
And it went. Then Floyd and Covid. It's over. The socialists moved in.
Kenny Olson
You've been talking about those two wards, but you should throw in Ward 10 with Chuggy.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, of course. Up around.
Chris Reivers
That's okay. Seattle 2022.
Joe Soucheray
I remember you telling us some of the stories, and they were horrid.
Chris Reivers
And we. We stayed there for a couple days.
Joe Soucheray
This Is the family trip.
Chris Reivers
Yep. And we have stations located out there. And our guy Wheeler was. Was running those stations out there at the time. And I wanted to check out the studios. The studios are beautiful, and they're right next to T Mobile's headquarters in Seattle. And it was being pointed out like, well, it is a campus. It was like basically a. Mobiles was. Yes, it was a small college campus. And he said, it's shrinking. It's shrinking. And I just saw something maybe a month or two ago about how desolate that area. So again, it goes exactly in line with what you're saying. They just said, well, we can't operate here. We can't have this many people and paying these exorbitant fees. And this is before this Katie Wilson took office.
Joe Soucheray
Another way to look at it is what obligation does T Mobile, rei, Starbucks. What obligation do they have to accommodate the constituency that voted for Katie Wilson? That's an anathema to the very reason they exist. They don't exist to be poor. They exist to flourish. If the mayor and the council makes it impossible for you to flourish or hold you in a dark site for flourishing, why should you remain there? People are finding that there are other areas in the country that still want to be the United States. Tennessee, apparently. Nashville, Tennessee. And there. I'm sure there are many others. Many, many others. We're just not seeing it here. We're not seeing it in Chicago. We're not seeing it in Los Angeles. We're not seeing it in Seattle. We're not seeing it in Portland. We're not seeing it in San Francisco. We're not seeing it in. What did New York do? They voted for a candidate who's Katie Wilson squared.
Chris Reivers
And he's now begging those same billionaires to.
Joe Soucheray
Why should they?
Chris Reivers
And they won't. To prove a point. Oh, you're gonna mock us. Okay, we'll see you later. He pointed out the penthouse of the hedge fund guy and he said, oh, okay, you think that's cute? And he moved his entire operation to Florida.
Joe Soucheray
Ken somebody. What's his name? Well, it was worse than pointing it out. He did a film. He did a film segment in front of. Help me with his name. John, come on. Do something. Something.
Kenny Olson
I don't know who you mean.
Chris Reivers
Yeah, he did this on tax day.
Joe Soucheray
I want to say Ken Wharton, but I don't think that's his name. He's a big hedge fund success in New York, and he's. He's been extremely active in helping New York remain vital, and he has A Ken Griffin. Ken Griffin. And what mom Donnie did when Griffin threatened to. To. To leave is Mom Donnie held a conference. Mom Donnie held a conference filmed on the sidewalk in front of Ken Griffith's place, the address and everything, holding Ken Griffith in contempt. Well, Ken Griffith now, you know, he's got a family to worry about and whatever. He's not gonna put up with that. He's gone.
Chris Reivers
Building a brand new operation in, I think Boca in Florida. That area, I can't remember what city here.
Kenny Olson
I have the AI version. Mayor Mamdani featured Griffin's 238 million Central south penthouse in a viral tax the rich social media video to promote his tax on luxury homes.
Joe Soucheray
Now, you can. You can argue all day long that a guy with a $238 million penthouse, that seems excessive. And, you know, but there's no accounting for taste if he wants it 200. But see, there. There used to be an America where, you know what? Someday I hope I have a $238 million penthouse. Those days are done. Now. The great race in this country. And I think people have themselves fooled if they think Trump's very helpful to this because he's stealing as much money from us as he possibly can. The race in this country is to be what's going to win. Is capitalism going to win, or is Mom Donnie and Katie Wilson going to win?
Kenny Olson
No, going back to Ken Griffith. He is now, like you guys said, pivoted to doubling down on investments in office space in Miami rather than New York. So Florida's going to win, Tennessee is going to win, etc. Etc.
Joe Soucheray
Well, are we. Are we going to be. Are we going to break apart and become two countries, one successful, one not?
Kenny Olson
No.
Joe Soucheray
What's going to happen here?
Chris Reivers
Individual states are going to prosper. That's what's going to happen.
Kenny Olson
And then the other states that are not prospering are going to wake up and eventually we're all going to come back together again as a country. We won't be all red, we won't be all blue. But I do see what 20 years down the road, a recovery process.
Joe Soucheray
What an optimistic view. Because if you look at the populace of these Ward Twos and Ward Tens in Minneapolis, I don't see any waking up on the horizon.
Kenny Olson
I'm the most optimistic staff member on gl, which is really hard to believe. Yeah, Happy Coffee Shop is the name of my show.
Joe Soucheray
I don't see any waking up. And we're the ones who've been looking at this the wrong way. We keep Waiting for people to wake up. They're awakened. This is what they want.
Chris Reivers
This is what they want. Yep.
Joe Soucheray
We're the dummies. We should be doing this show in Nashville.
Chris Reivers
Like Jeff Dayton. Go see him tonight.
John Haidt
By the way, the Dakota traded messages this morning with Pat. They had a great time last night.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, I bet. It was wonderful.
John Haidt
Jeff Dayton, Pat and Steven C. I'm
Chris Reivers
surprised you didn't go, Johnny.
John Haidt
It's, that's way over there, you know.
Chris Reivers
Oh, God.
Kenny Olson
Okay, Rookie Joe, you should just try moving out of town. You don't have to go into work to work.
Joe Soucheray
You, you, you keep trying to correct what you think is wrong with me, and, and I'm, I'm perfectly fine. I, I, I, sounds like it. No, I'm. What, I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing.
Kenny Olson
I'm, I think of it this way. If you all of a sudden got happy, this show would go right in
Chris Reivers
the, Our ratings would.
Joe Soucheray
Dang. We'd be done.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, we'd go from the penthouse to the outhouse. Don't move. Stay where you are, buddy.
John Haidt
Right, Exactly.
Joe Soucheray
Just because I say Trump's stealing all our money doesn't mean I'm unhappy.
Kenny Olson
I, I just, I'm, you know what I'm doing? I'm reflecting myself on you. I moved to the country and I didn't realize that this sort of happiness was possible. That's, that's my fault here. I'm sorry.
Joe Soucheray
Okay.
Kenny Olson
Is that too much? I think that was too much.
John Haidt
Very happy and optimistic today, Kenny.
Joe Soucheray
I'm not happy.
Chris Reivers
Which one are you?
Joe Soucheray

Positive Thursday brought to us by Schoonover Body Works and Auto Care. It's already here. It's Thursday already. They're in Shoreview at 1060 County Road E. I was there a few times this week. Mike Schoonover is with us. Mike, Team Schoonover. You guys did a wonderful number on my truck this week.
Joe Soucheray
Week.
Mike Schoonover
That's good to hear, Kenny. That's what we're supposed to do. So I'm glad you, I'm glad you took the short drive from Alex down to see it.
Kenny Olson
You did a pitman arm, an idler arm, an alignment manifold, bolts and a manifold. Because GM has gone the cheap route and their manifolds warp. You fixed that for me. You put in spark plugs, you did an oil change, and you did a little bit of detailing. And it's the detailing I want to talk about all of those other things. Wonderful. Everything's perfect and fine. But this detailing thing, the white letters for the cruise control on the steering wheel. Now this is a 10 year old truck. Now it's got 180, I don't know, 4,000 on it. Those white letters had worn off. Imagine my surprise when I hopped in the truck at your place and saw that the white letters had returned. And evidently my greasy Kentucky chicken fingers had turned the white letters black.
Mike Schoonover
Well, Kenny, I'm glad that we could, we could show you the way and that you can read those again. Yeah, that's, that's what our guys do. They love, you know, they really do love. Have you ever watched those videos of I have people mowing a. Mowing a really overgrown own lawn or whatever action out of it? Yeah, Kenny, that's how my detailers feel when they, when they get to detail a truck like yours.
Kenny Olson
Quinn was my customer service guy and I asked when I was leaving, I said, so did just one detailer work on this? And he goes, oh, no, there was a whole team. Well, there.
Mike Schoonover
That has always been one of the most important. I mean, every department in our shop is important, but the detail Department is, you know, the devil's in the details.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
Mike Schoonover
For years and years and years. I mean, this is even before I was running the shop. This is back when dad was managing it and that every car had to be cleaned, every car had to be vacuumed, every car, it had to look good on the curb when the customer picks it up, because that's just the way it has to be done. So we're happy that you, that you noticed the cleanliness.
Kenny Olson
And I got there, I didn't have anything to do on Tuesday afternoon. So I got there about an hour before the truck was ready. And I just sat there and I listened to the exchanges between the customers and Nikki and every single one of the customers over and over again. They said how much they love you guys, how they'll always come back and how you guys are the best thing they've ever. They've ever encountered. There's a gal in there, an older gal, older than me anyway, let's put it that way. In a Ford, a canary yellow Ford Thunderbird. And my goodness, she was so, so happy. And I think she told every single employee in the joint that. And that was fun to see. I really love seeing that. That kind of reaffirms what I've been saying all along.
Mike Schoonover
Well, Kenny, we are blessed to have a great staff. We work with really cool people who are really good to our customers and they do a really nice job because the world is not like that right now. And so we feel really good that we can offer that quality and service to every single customer that walks through the door.
Kenny Olson
Oh, and speaking of that, customers at the same time I was there, my son, he lives in south Minneapolis. His truck got broke into again. You guys put a new window, front side passenger window in his truck in less than 24 hours. So thank you for that. You've been around since 1938. You are the official shop of GL. And you just heard another reason why GL is always rated one of the top shops in the Metro. Schoonover Bodyworks.com is the website. Thank you, Mike.
Mike Schoonover
You bet. Thank you for your business, Kenny, and thanks for everything, G. Ellers. And you guys have a great long weekend.
Joe Soucheray
You cannot stop it. You just make a move. Joe Suture.
Chris Reivers

Joe Soucheray
Please do me a favor.
Chris Reivers
Yes, sir.
Joe Soucheray
Why don't you get one in here?
Kenny Olson
Are they GL ers, Chris? Is there a chance they're listening right now?
Chris Reivers
Probably, yeah.
Kenny Olson
Good, because I have a suggestion. You can change whatever course you're on, I'm assuming.
Joe Soucheray
Yes, of course.
Kenny Olson
I want. I want something like a street scene with old ladies and kids walking back and forth on a sidewalk.
Joe Soucheray
Why would you want that?
Kenny Olson
So I can get out, you know, and take. Take shots at them.
Joe Soucheray
Yell 4.
Chris Reivers
I'll see if I can make that happen.
Joe Soucheray
Here's John Haidt in his newsroom.
Kenny Olson
I don't see them taking that advice.
John Haidt
No, no, I don't think so. I did. Before I get. Oh, the news, by the way, is brought to you by North American Banking Company. Before I get to it, Joe, earlier when you gave me the Oliver Hardy line saying, do something. Yeah, I was doing something, but I didn't want to interrupt your train of thought. I was looking up employees in Seattle.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, yeah, Tell us.
John Haidt
Starbucks has 8,000 to 9,500 employees.
Joe Soucheray
God Almighty Almighty.
John Haidt
And REI has 15,000 employees.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, my word. And they're governed by a nitwit.
Chris Reivers
And I did the same thing, Johnny. T Mobile recently has 6,700 employees. Earlier in the year, T Mobile laid off 400 workers in Washington state. They also had 150 workers laid off in 2025.
John Haidt
Yeah, both REI and Starbucks also have laid off in the 3 to 400 range.
Kenny Olson
In the last year, I followed the debates and the arguments about Starbucks being unionized, going union when it was happening, and was not surprised that as soon as it happened, they went on strike. Joe, I think you said something very, very important that you glossed over and you didn't mention it again this is not a career. And if you think that working the counter at Starbucks is a career, unless it leads to management, you're a loser.
Joe Soucheray
Well, you know, we can be kinder than that. You have no ambition like a tick. Ambition has taken a big hit in this country. Ambition has taken a big hit.
Kenny Olson
There's certain jobs out there that are starter jobs to get into, you know, McDonald's.
Joe Soucheray
But the socialists would give them the same equivalency as being a corporate executive. Executive, right? Yep.
Kenny Olson
All right.
John Haidt
In news, a lot going on this morning. As we know, the founder of Feeding Our Future has been sentenced to over 41 years for her role in the fraud scheme. 500 months total, 45 year old Amy Bach convicted on all counts following a more than six week federal jury trial last year. Prosecutors had asked the judge to sentence Bach to 50 years in prison while her attorney asked for 37 months. The former prosecution team, Joe Thompson, Harry Jacobs, Matthew Ebert and Daniel Bobier came to watch the sentencing. Joining them were law enforcement who worked on the case and even several jurors from the six week trial. Prosecutors describe Bach as the ringleader of the scheme to defraud the federal child nutrition program out of about $250 million, the largest pandemic related fraud scheme in the country, according to prosecutors. Just before she was sentenced this morning, Bach expressed contrition, saying, I don't have words to express just how horrible I feel. I know I'm responsible. More than four years after the first charges in the scheme, prosecutors say the investigation does continue. The cases for several defendants are still moving through the court process. Meanwhile, a top Justice Department official responsible for combating fraud announcing criminal charges against 15 Minnesota defendants in connection with another case this morning that happened right after Bach was sentenced more than $90 million in taxpayer dollars from seven different state managed Medicaid programs involved in these charges. Colin McDonald, Assistant Attorney General for the Justice Department's National Fraud Enforcement Division, called the charges unprecedented. He said, let me be clear up front about something. This is not the end of our work here in Minnesota. Not the end of the beginning of our work in Minnesota. This is the beginning of our work in Minnesota. Press conference was attended by numerous federal officials, including Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
Joe Soucheray
I wonder how long before Bach has a parole hearing. We know that time you got to serve. I wonder she ain't gonna serve 41 years.
Kenny Olson
Is there a white collar prison for gals? Well, she going to shock him?
Joe Soucheray
I have no idea here.
John Haidt
Meanwhile, two more people indicted yesterday for defrauding Medicaid programs out of millions of dollars. Shamso Ahmed Hassan and Hanan Morsal Yusuf. Yeah. Are facing one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, seven counts of health care fraud and two counts of money laundering, according to federal court records. The court filings say Hassan was one of the owners of Smart Therapy center llc LLC and Star Autism center llc, while Yousef was an employee of the former but still received financial benefits from the alleged fraud. The indictment alleges Hassan and Yousef billed the Department of Human Services DHS Medicaid program for services not provided from November 2019 through December 2024. Court records go on to say the pair gave illegal kickbacks of about 300 to $1,500 per month, month per child to parents of Medicaid eligible children in exchange for the enrollment of their child. Assad and Yusuf disguised the Kickmax by writing checks payable to family members and employees, asking them to cash the checks and give the money to parents monthly, referring to the kickbacks with the code word computer. Altogether, Smart Therapy and Star Autism submitted Medicaid claims for about $46.6 million for which they were reimbursed $21.1 million. Hasan and Yousef, according to the charges, sent hundreds of thousands of dollars in fraud proceeds to their families for their own benefit, including using the money to buy property and send the funds overseas to Kenya. Hasan's wife was the first person to be charged in a 14 million dollar autism center fraud scheme in addition to being connected to the Feeding Our Future fraud scam. We told you about her yesterday.
Joe Soucheray
Let's link the reason fraud has taken so long to be acted upon is the same reason we've been discussing through this new lens. We keep saying people don't care, they don't care. Part of that's true because not a lot of people are even paying attention to the news. Right? But the other reason would be this probably doesn't bother people who hold big amounts of money in contempt. Well, it served that. I'm glad they're getting the money. That would be a way that a Marxist would look at it. So there hasn't been. No one in the city of Minneapolis rallied up against fraud. No one in the city of St. Paul has marched on the Capitol and said, this is an outrage. It must stop. That ideology isn't there.
Chris Reivers
It's out the window.
Kenny Olson
And Democrats here in Minnesota were fighting the fact that fraud even existed.
Joe Soucheray
Right?
Kenny Olson
And our cute little newspaper, the Minnesota Star Tribune, I saw a headline this morning that I thought was hilarious that Being political pressure helped restore feeding our future funding despite staff warning. So the Star Tribune has finally picked up on what Garage Logic and the Crabby Coffee Shop and, and everybody else has been saying for over a year or more.
Joe Soucheray
About five years.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, that's, that's really good start your view and we're really welcome to the party.
Joe Soucheray
Jeez.
John Haidt
A man accused of shooting at an airplane helping to put out a wildfire near or claims he was crow hunting and was not intentionally shooting at the planes. As previously reported, 48 year old Daniel Christian Pettit was taken into custody at his home in Portage Township and charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, second degree assault and felony criminal damage to property. The arrest came after an incident on May 15 when an amphibious airplane returned to the Range Regional Airport at Hemming with an apparent bullet hole in the rudder. Court documents say the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office inspected the aircraft and determined the plane had indeed been shot. The pilot thought the incident occurred around 7:35 in the evening while he was he was helping with aerial suppression of wildfires. His flying instruments showed no signs of damage even though he heard loud pop. So he continued the pilot finished his water drops, returned to the airport where the damage was discovered. A deputy who knew the area reportedly suspected Pettit, who lived in the area might have been behind the incident.
Joe Soucheray
He looks like a guy who might shoot a crow.
Kenny Olson
He looks like a guy that's familiar to local law enforcement.
John Haidt
Well, this deputy knew Pettit as a man who had expressed annoyance when float planes planes flew over his house back in 2024. So yes, he was known.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, and who goes crow hunting with a rifle? Come on, man.
Joe Soucheray
Well, two things I desperately want to believe. He was not shooting at the plane. And what the hell do you got against a crow? I love crows. Leave the crows alone.
Kenny Olson
There's a, for me, there's a karma issue. I don't need crows going after me for the rest of my and my family.
Joe Soucheray
You think that crow's not going to tell his friends?
Kenny Olson
Oh my Lord.
John Haidt
Pettit was taken into custody, later spoke at the heaving jail where court records said he provided a Miranda statement to law enforcement. Pettit said he believed the planes were as close as 40ft above his house throughout the day, saying he thought they were breaking FAA regulations.
Joe Soucheray
Maybe he did shoot it at a purpose.
John Haidt
Court documents allege Pettit also told investigators he had been hunting crows. And here's the quote. You'll love this quote. If I accidentally hit him, I was crow hunting too.
Kenny Olson
Bad.
John Haidt
He endangered my life. I decided to go outside and crow hunt. Did I aim and try to shoot the plane? Nope. No, I didn't.
Joe Soucheray
So. Okay.
Kenny Olson
Yes, you did.
Joe Soucheray
What's his first name?
John Haidt
Was it Daniel or D. Jethro. His first name was Daniel.
Joe Soucheray
Okay, Daniel.
John Haidt
Daniel. Also, in his picture. Pictures, he looks older than I do and he's considerably younger than me, so.
Joe Soucheray
Well, you know, he's out there.
John Haidt
Daniel's.
Kenny Olson
Daniel said, that's funny. The roommate brought that up when she saw him, too.
John Haidt
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
What is he, 46 or something like that? Yeah, and he looks like he's about 80.
John Haidt
Yep, exactly.
Chris Reivers
I just want you to know that 30 minutes ago, state Attorney General Keith Ellison thanked.
Kenny Olson
Oh, I saw that.
Chris Reivers
Prosecution of Amy Bond. Yeah, Keith, that's probably your job, too, by the way.
Kenny Olson
How hilarious. How can I insert myself into this story? I didn't do jack.
Chris Reivers
Right.
Kenny Olson
As a matter of fact, I might be one of. Well, I've been.
Chris Reivers
Careful. Careful.
John Haidt
Why don't we take a quick break here and save Kenny and hear from Mr. Reber?
Chris Reivers

Justice Department yesterday unsealing an indictment against former Cuban President Raul Castro for murder and conspiracy to kill U.S. citizens. Those charges stem from the 1996 downing of two civilian planes that killed four Cuban exiles. Survivors and victims. Relatives spent 30 years pressing for criminal charges against Castro who served as Defense minister at the time. His older brother, then Cuban President Fidel Castro took responsibility for the attack claiming the activist group operating the plane had previously distributed anti communist pamphlets. The group maintained it was searching for people fleeing the island by sea. The indictment lays the groundwork for potential US military action to extract the 94 year old Castro from Cuba, similar to the January operation against Cuban ally and former Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro Maduro. Since Maduro's capture, the US has supposed a de facto oil blockade to weaken Cuba's communist regime. Longtime GOP operative Karl Rove is warning that President Trump may tank Republicans chances in November's midterm elections. He did that in a column today for the Wall Street Journal under the headline Gerrymandering Isn't Enough for the gop. Rove noted that redistricting efforts don't put the GOP majority in safe territory as Democrats lead in generic congressional balloting and Rove thinks he knows who's respons for that gap. He says the GOP's chances will get worse if President Trump's approval ratings keep declining. They're already dangerously low, he said. Making Things worse are Mr. Trump's erratic late night missives. The president comes across more as a heckler at a UFC match than as a reassuring wartime commander, according to Rove. Speaking of polls, a new Fox News poll also not good news for the president. The national poll conducted By Fox Between May 15th and 18th among 1,002 registered voters, found the president's over overall approval rating sitting at 39%, with 61% disapproving of his performance. Although the president still commands majority support within the Republican Party, support from non MAGA Republicans and other core constituencies are wavering, especially when it concerns the economy.
Joe Soucheray
I would be a non MAGA Republican
John Haidt
Senate Republican leaders are expected today to abandon the proposal for $1 billion in security money for the White House complex and President Donald Trump's ballroom amid backlash from members of their own party. Pressured by the White House, Republicans tried to add the money to a $70 billion bill to restore funding to U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Border Patrol. But the security proposal met with opposition from some GOP lawmakers who are questioning the timing of the request, the cost and how the taxpayer dollars would be used. Senate Senator John Canada, representative representing Louisiana, told the reporters that the bill was, quote, back to square one without security money because the votes are not there.
Joe Soucheray
Isn't it somewhat obscene to be spending money on ballrooms, arches and reflecting pools when there's bigger fish to fry? Thank you very much.

Elon Musk's SpaceX has revealed its plans to go public in the US US allowing people to trade shares in the firm and the stock market. SpaceX makes rockets, offers a satellite Internet service called Starlink, and also owns Musk's controversial artificial intelligence firm X AI. The initial public offering on the US Stock market, set to be the largest in Wall street history, could start next month because of the shares he will own in Space X. The IPO could make the billionaire Musk, who's already the world's richest person person. A trillionaire SpaceX values itself at $1.25. And Musk's majority ownership of the company means his share could be worth more than $600 billion.
Joe Soucheray
How much is a share, John?
John Haidt
Buck 25. Although I have something behind that that looks like a typo, so I'm not sure.
Joe Soucheray
I might as well buy a few shares of that. What the hell?
Chris Reivers
That's a big one with.
Kenny Olson
Is that a hotel stock tip from.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, I didn't, I shouldn't even give a hot.
Chris Reivers
I shouldn't.
Joe Soucheray
No, I meant. No, don't take any stock tip for me because I'm not a hot stock tipper. Hold on, hold on.
Chris Reivers
Cue the talent investing is easy.
Joe Soucheray
Now's the time to invest. Invest now. Time now for Joe and Pat's piping hot stock take. I wouldn't listen to us. I'd listen to Josh Arnold.
John Haidt
Yeah, all of this could make Musk's net worth well, well over $1 trillion.
Joe Soucheray
That'd be hard to spend that.
Kenny Olson
So when I read this, I realized that Elon and I might actually be hanging out in the same clubs here in the future because as I alluded to during the break, I've recently I've renegotiated my contract and I'm more than willing to share with you guys nglors what my new deal is. First of all, because as Joe, you've alluded to many times, this is the a seven day a week job. 24 hours a day. We never stop working. So I am now getting paid for seven days a week. Seven days a week. Wonderful. And I'm also getting paid $100,000 a day.
Joe Soucheray
Really?
Kenny Olson
How long do you suppose it'll take for me to become a millionaire?
Joe Soucheray
Well, I, I, I don't know. I'm not allowed to do the math, but that would be pretty easy to calculate.
Kenny Olson
What do you think that is on 100,000 a day? Million dollars, Chris?
Joe Soucheray
Well, 10, 10 hundred thousand is a million.
Chris Reivers
But you have to factor in taxes.
Joe Soucheray
You have to figure out that's just too.
Kenny Olson
We're doing.
Joe Soucheray
Don't complicate 10 days. So 10 days, you got a million bucks. So how many days does it take to get a that you need a thousand million. You'll be a billionaire in a thousand days, which is about three and a half years. No.
Kenny Olson
Boy, that was off the rails. How many days would it take for me to become a billionaire here? The answer 10,000 days or 27 years. I will be 89 in the year 2053 when I'm a Billionaire.
Joe Soucheray
Well, you'll still be a hell.
Kenny Olson
Now, if I want to hang out with.
Joe Soucheray
Why is he doing this?
Kenny Olson
And I want to be a trillionaire.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
Kenny Olson
How many days would it take for me at a hundred thousand a day to become a trillionaire?
Joe Soucheray
500 years?
Kenny Olson
10 million days? Or 27, 395 years.
John Haidt
Holy cow.
Kenny Olson
That is just. I just wanted to show you the difference between a millionaire and a trillionaire. 27,000 years.
Joe Soucheray
How many. How many years does it take to become a millionaire at 100 grand a year? 10,000.
Chris Reivers
10 days.
Joe Soucheray
That's nothing.
Kenny Olson
To be a billionaire. It's 10,000 days or 27 years. Years. A trillionaire. 27, 395 years. That's how much, Elon, that's a lot of money.
Joe Soucheray
That's. That's a lot of money. He probably doesn't have $3 in his pocket.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, if.
John Haidt
If. Let me go back to that paragraph that I was confused by, because I looked it up while we were doing that.
Kenny Olson
Yeah.
John Haidt
SpaceX values itself at $1.25 trillion. That's what it should have read. Oh, and Musk's majority ownership. Yeah, Musk majority ownership of the company means his share would be 600 billion. See, it had 1.25 and then it had a T and an N behind.
Joe Soucheray
Sure.
John Haidt
Very confused.
Joe Soucheray
So the stock's more than a buck 25?
John Haidt
That's correct. It'll probably cost you considerably more than a buck 25, I think. I'm assuming, anyway.
Kenny Olson
By the way, if I have to say it, I'm not getting paid for seven days a week, and I'm getting paid for about 15 minutes a day.
John Haidt
I was almost.
Joe Soucheray
I was pretty confident in that. I did.
Kenny Olson
Don't get mad.
John Haidt
Complained.
Kenny Olson
Don't get mad.
John Haidt
Why is Kenny getting paid for.
Kenny Olson
Why is he getting a hundred thousand a day and I'm only getting 75, 000 a day?
Chris Reivers
And if rook works 30 minutes a day.
Kenny Olson
Yeah.
John Haidt
You know, I was thinking earlier in the show, can I just someday Sign on for 30 minutes and sign off and then get paid for it?
Joe Soucheray
I don't know, Kenny.
John Haidt
What do you think we should all do that?
Joe Soucheray
How about we finish the news? Oh, okay.
Mike Schoonover
Okay.
John Haidt
Yes, sir. Tough way to go here. Yeah, I know.
Joe Soucheray
I have important climate change news for all the people that think we're dying.
John Haidt
Would you like to wrap it up? I can save this story for tomorrow.
Joe Soucheray
Sure. Let's wrap it up.
John Haidt
All right.
Joe Soucheray
All right. Here we are. Hey, we're wrapping up.
Chris Reivers
Well, okay.
John Haidt
How about that?
Chris Reivers
Okay. Sounds good.
Joe Soucheray
It's the end of the world as we know it. And he feels fine. Joe Sugiray.
Chris Reivers
We are Nuts. Boy, are we. And we are nuts. Mn.com great promotion running right now through the end of the month of May for all of you Quick Rewards members that participate in Quick Trip location, I just so happen to be one of them.
Joe Soucheray
By the way, I got some nuts yesterday at Quick Trip at Fratelloni's.
Chris Reivers
Oh, okay. What'd you get?
Joe Soucheray
Cashews.
Chris Reivers
Jumbo.
Joe Soucheray
I'll say.
John Haidt
Boy.
Joe Soucheray
Well, they don't have any other kind. They're all jumbo.
John Haidt
I did the honey mustard mix the other day. That is really good, too.
Chris Reivers
Let me guess. Do you got it at County Market?
John Haidt
No, I got it at Fratelloni's, actually.
Chris Reivers
Oh, very cool. So for all of you Quick Rewards members, when you purchase a jar of the We Are Nuts brand, you are gonna save 5 cents per gallon gas on a future fuel purchase. Like I mentioned, though, you do have to be a Quick Rewards member to take advantage of this. So if you go to your participating store, just ask where the nuts at? And they'll point those out. And you can also get them, as Du Bois mentioned, at Fratelloni's, Mac's Hardware, Lunds and Barleys, Kowalski's Markets, Coburn's County Market, Jerry's Foods. But you can see it for yourself. Go online to wearenutsmn.com and you can find a store locator as well. Or just order them online. And please, when you do place that order, make sure you mention that you heard about them here on the garagelogic podcast.
Joe Soucheray
All right, now pay attention. And I'm not including kids in school because they're a lost cause. Scientists have warned that an imminent super El Nino could even be more powerful than a previous event which caused more than 50, 50 million deaths. That was in 1877. The 1877 El Nino was one of the most severe climate events in recorded history, triggering a global humanitarian disaster known as the Great Famine. Now, if in fact this comes to fruition, you know that. You know that these newscasters will lead every every evening news with the dramatic effects of an El Nino brought to you by climate change. Will any of them take into account that in 1877 there was such a significant El Nino, which is warming of the water, I think, isn't it?
Chris Reivers
Yes.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah. Such a significant El Nino that more than 50 million people died. And that was before we had mini vans.
Kenny Olson
I wonder if that was partially the cause of the Locust plagues in the 1870s 77 was a bad year for locusts.
Joe Soucheray
Estimates indicate the resulting scarcity of food and disease outbreaks killed up to 4% of the Earth's population at that time. In the 19th century. That would be the equivalent of 250 million people if it happened today. Now, forecasts suggest water temperatures could potentially exceed 5.4 degrees Fahrenheit above average later this year, making the upcoming Super El Nino even more powerful than the one nearly 150 years ago. So what does this have to do with anything except this is what happens on Earth? Many climate historians think the 1877-78 event reshaped world history, and some consider it one of the first truly global climate disasters. They had drought conditions. Those were intensified. Crops collapsed across huge areas. India was among the worst hit region as monsoon rains disappeared, while northern China suffered devastating dry spells that led to harvest fail. In Brazil, rivers dried up and agriculture collapsed, while parts of Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia also experienced severe drought and forest fires. The resulting famine weakened societies, intensified colonial control in some regions accelerated migration and exposed how vulnerable global food systems were to climate shocks. There were outbreaks of malaria, plague, dysentery, smallpox, cholera across weakened populations. Paul Rounde from the State University of New York of Albany said this year could be potentially the biggest El nino event since 1877. But see, kids, there'll be nothing new in this El Nino. It's happened before, and the one in 1877 probably could have been measured by one in 1542 or whatever. So you're all going to lose your. Use your bleep over it and you'll say it's climate change, but it's happened before and it will happen again.
Kenny Olson
And what's causing these ridiculous southeast winds that we can't seem to shake up here?
Joe Soucheray
Well, we can't seem to shake the Northwest. Yeah, but you don't end up.
Kenny Olson
You don't end up with corn debris in your yard. Last year's harvest, harvested debris.
Joe Soucheray
Well, let me see if I can see how this happens. This is the Daily Mail, so it has to be true. El Nino, a warming of the ocean surface or above average sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific. Over Indonesia, rainfall becomes reduced while rainfall increases over the tropical tropical Pacific. The low level surface winds, which normally blow from east to west along the equator, instead weaken or in some cases start blowing in the other direction from west to east. A La Nina is a cooling of the ocean. Is there a way that this story tells me. Oh, yeah, there's all kinds of charts and Stuff, you know, you can get there. I mean, it's got them, you got. I don't know what causes it, but we get them all the time. So what are you gonna do?
Kenny Olson
Oh, here. I just discovered an answer to my question. The devastating grasshopper plagues in the 19th century Minnesota were closely linked to El Nino. The severe multi year infestations of Rocky Mountain locusts that peaked in the 1870s thrived in the hot dry conditions historically triggered by El Nino.
Joe Soucheray
Any of you guys apply for Trump's money yet? I'm amused at all these stories in the paper that say the January 6ers will begin applying for their payouts.
Kenny Olson
I'm.
Joe Soucheray
I'm going against height. I still believe that no one will see one nickel of the almost $2 billion that Trump will keep for himself.
Kenny Olson
Do I have to prove I was there?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
John Haidt
Well, no, you don't have to prove it has. It's not related to January 6th. It's just related to whether or not you.
Joe Soucheray
Right. The speculation is the January 6ers will apply for a payout.
John Haidt
Right. I mean, but it can be any. In fact, I saw remember the reverend who got hit by the. What do you call them? The pellets?
Joe Soucheray
Yes.
John Haidt
During an ice.
Kenny Olson
Non. Lethal.
Joe Soucheray
Him.
John Haidt
Yeah, I shot him twice.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
John Haidt
At close range. That reverend has applied to be a sport.
Joe Soucheray
Well, good luck. If any of you think you're getting money, you don't know the man.
Kenny Olson
I might qualify because I have to work with a couple of guys that suffer from tds.
Chris Reivers
Oh, God.
Joe Soucheray
The only people at TDS are the people who still think he's a functioning human being.
Kenny Olson
Yay me. I got it out of him. Only because he bit on that hook.
John Haidt
Chris, before you do that, that, can I just mention this local media thing I just saw cco. You know CBS is going away.
Joe Soucheray
Sure. I didn't know that.
Chris Reivers
Yeah, we talked about radio news. Oh, corporation.
Kenny Olson
Yeah, Radio news.
John Haidt
They announced this morning the radio station WCCO. Starting this afternoon, or starting now, the 22nd, tomorrow afternoon, they will be using and become an ABC affiliate.
Kenny Olson
No, really use. Yeah, that's what the mighty 1500 used to be.
Joe Soucheray
Okay, now how can that happen? They're a CBS affiliate.
John Haidt
Well, not. What do you mean?
Joe Soucheray
Cbs, cb. Aren't they CBS owned, CEO?
John Haidt
No, they're owned by Odyssey, Right?
Chris Reivers
Yes.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, does that mean Odyssey can take its news wherever it wants to?
Chris Reivers
It was just an affiliation with a parent company.
Joe Soucheray
Oh.
Chris Reivers
And now that parent company.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I'm glad they're going to continue to have the news in some Capacity. Because it's either. Either that or it's. John Haidt for your Daily News. There's no other stations have news.
Kenny Olson
I'm Doug Limerick.
Joe Soucheray
Doug Limerick, map update. We will be adding. You didn't run the crawl again because you're just so damn.
Chris Reivers
Well, Gabe usually reminds me every before the show on. Gabe's not here.
Joe Soucheray
Well, now I gotta wait, see, to see if Park Rapids is on there.
Mishke
There.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I'm only at Brownsville.
Chris Reivers
I don't believe.
Joe Soucheray
Parkland. Clear City.
Kenny Olson
Come on, read them all.
Joe Soucheray
Clearbrook, Cohasset, Cold Spring. These schools will start six hours late. Columbus, Crosby, Cross Lake, Crow Wing, Danube.
Chris Reivers
Buses on plowed roads only.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah. Eaton Valley, starting three hours late. Else, Fulda. Remote learning as they always have been. Garagelogic, Glenwood. I'm just waiting to see if Park Rapids is out here. Because if Park Rapids is not on here, they will be added. And I was sent a picture of the Park Rapids city Hall with that old beautiful flag still flying.
Chris Reivers
Park Rapids, where we were feeding all the kids.
Joe Soucheray
No.
Chris Reivers
Oh, that was Pelican Rapids.
Joe Soucheray
Well, we fed a lot of kids.
Chris Reivers
That's true.
Joe Soucheray
Thousands and thousands. In fact, more kids than in the entire state of Minnesota.
Chris Reivers
Isn't that amazing?
Joe Soucheray
That was wonderful. Okay, I'm on the AMS. McGrath, Moose Lake, Mountain Lake. Now we're at the ends. North Branch, Norwood, Young America, Oak Grove. We need some more ends. Osakis, Paynesville, Payson. Here we. Park Rapids is not on there. They will be now. That goes in the file. The file? Yeah.
John Haidt
When Gabe gets back.
Joe Soucheray
Well, yeah, I don't know how to do it. Only because they come to us, Joe.
Kenny Olson
If Gabe gets back.
Chris Reivers
Right.
Joe Soucheray
Well, now, that's interesting you say that because there is now some confusion in international flights due to the fact that we're going to turn this Ebola scare into another national panic. Yeah. And I've been talking to public health people, some of whom are close to me, and they say there is no reason for a panic. Zero.
Kenny Olson
You better get your pills. Get your medicine.
Joe Soucheray
And so now, in fact, a plane returning from Europe landed in Canada yesterday. I can't remember the particulars, but the stewardesses, the flight attendants. I'm sorry, they masked us up. They landed in Canada. People were freaking because somebody on the plane might have been sitting next to somebody who might have been next to somebody who had Ebola.
Chris Reivers
Well, plus, too, the other thing to keep in mind with this, there won't be another outbreak like this, another pandemic, till the next presidential election.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I wouldn't put anything past this corrupt thief.
John Haidt
Way to set him off, Chris.
Joe Soucheray
Just a career corrupt thief.
Kenny Olson
You caught one too, Chris.
Chris Reivers
Oh, boy, we're really fishing.
Joe Soucheray
Well, you have TDS. They come to us all the way from the traveling lineman's in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. And they'll be our guests coming up here in a couple weeks. On this day.
Chris Reivers
Today is May 21st.
Joe Soucheray
Well, on this day in eight. I'm sorry. In 1839, Donald McDonald received the first steamboat shipment of cargo to the settlement that would become St. Paul. And we shipped the first thing you should ever ship when a new development is discovered.
Chris Reivers
Booze.
Joe Soucheray
Six barrels of whiskey were delivered to McDonald's shop, the halfway house in Inyon. Tippie Fountain Cave. Interesting name for on this day, May 21st. They were ahead of the curve with that name, weren't they? Halfway. On this day, May 21, in 1882. Oh, this must have been fun. Mark Twain visited St. Paul while compiling research for his book Life on the Mississippi, which he published the following year. He wrote about White Bear Lake. Did you know that?
Chris Reivers
I did not.
Joe Soucheray
Matamidi means White Bear. 1927. On this day, May 21st, in 1927. Well, here we go again. We had him yesterday. Charles Lindbergh landed his plane, The Spirit of St. Louis, outside Paris, sealing his achievement as the first person to complete a non stop solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Ocean. On this day, May 21, in 1934, during the Minneapolis Teamster strike, violence erupted between picketers blocking trucks driven by non unionists in an army hired by the Citizens Alliance, a union of local employers. 30 Minneapolis policemen and a number of army deputies were hospitalized after the brawl on this day. Sports related.
Chris Reivers
Who'd we lose to on May 21?
Joe Soucheray
On this day, May 21, 1961.
Chris Reivers
Okay. Twins related?
Joe Soucheray
Yep.
Chris Reivers
We already did the first night game.
Joe Soucheray
Yep.
Chris Reivers
First rain out?
Mishke
Nope.
Joe Soucheray
First sellout.
Chris Reivers
First.
Joe Soucheray
What?
Chris Reivers
We didn't sell out the opener.
Joe Soucheray
Nope. Sold out. Too cold. And Minnesota lost a doubleheader to Cleveland before a crowd of 30,000. Nine.
Chris Reivers
30,000 was a sellout.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah. You didn't have the left field bleachers in the first year.
Chris Reivers
Oh, that's true. I forgot about that.
Joe Soucheray
Did they have a living the first year?
Chris Reivers
No, because I remember you. You know why?
Joe Soucheray
Somebody wrote a book about it.
Chris Reivers
I read about it in a book.
Joe Soucheray
On this day, May 21, in 1972, Forestville State park was formally dedicated for four months as informal dedicated, having been open to the public since 1968. I don't know where that is.
Kenny Olson
Go down To Rochester and keep going south.
Joe Soucheray
I believe that does narrow it down, doesn't it? Hold on.
Kenny Olson
I'm looking for it. I think I've stayed there. Wait. Now I'm in Iowa.
Chris Reivers
Oh, you're close to Harmony.
Joe Soucheray
You lost like that. Camping. Do you?
Kenny Olson
Might take a while.
Joe Soucheray
I don't want to know. On this day in sports disappointment history,
Chris Reivers
Joe, who'd we lose to on May 21st?
Joe Soucheray
Well, in 1980, a. A blowup doll floating around delayed the Twins White Sox game. Come on.
John Haidt
What?
Joe Soucheray
No. Yeah, she got the arms out of. Right out of police academy there.
John Haidt
May I?
Joe Soucheray
Airplanes.
John Haidt
Since Chris was asking, yeah. The Twins averaged 15,000 per game in 1961.
Chris Reivers
You're kidding me.
John Haidt
No. In fact, they never went above 20,000 a game until 1985.
Chris Reivers
Did we not have the fever?
Joe Soucheray
There was zero marketing in those days. Those games were attended by baseball fans.
Chris Reivers
Right, but you would think. I mean, we got Major League Baseball.
Joe Soucheray
Well, you know, I thought so too, Chris. I had the Twins hat, the whole deal.
John Haidt
Sure, but it's not as big a deal.
Kenny Olson
I have old.
John Haidt
Old, you know, baseball games because I'm a geek. Yeah, the ones that you can still get. And there's rarely a stadium that looks like there's very many people in it.
Chris Reivers
Okay.
John Haidt
Especially if it's a day game.
Joe Soucheray
Did you ever see the Ken Burns Oh, God. Baseball deal? Well, you do it again. Pay attention, baseball.
Kenny Olson
Super racist. That's what I learned. Joe. Forceville is halfway between Spring Valley and Preston, south of I90. And Rochester.
Chris Reivers
Oh, my God, that's right. By Harmony.
Joe Soucheray
I can picture it exactly on this day.
John Haidt
Let me add one more thing to the attendance story, Kay?
Mike Schoonover
Sure.
John Haidt
Driving you nuts, am I? The average American League average per season in 61, 1,016,000. The Twins actually were well above that at 1,256,000. So everybody averaged between 10 and 20,000 a game.
Joe Soucheray
Even the Yankees?
John Haidt
Even the Yankees.
Chris Reivers
And the Boston.
Joe Soucheray
There's a great John Updike piece. One of my favorite pieces ever called Hub Fans Bid Kid. And it's Ted Williams last game at Fenway and a beaut. You could almost smell the ocean in the heat. And, oh, it was just a hell of a piece. And there was hardly anybody in the ballpark.
Kenny Olson
Didn't he write the Rabbit Series run? Rabbit or rabbit breast? One more thing to South Southern Minnesota. You still have a motorcycle, right? Because we need to go on a ride between Lanesboro Peterson on County 16, which is the twistiest, turniest road I've ever seen.
John Haidt
Can I interrupt again?
Chris Reivers
Oh, Boy.
John Haidt
Attendance for the Yankees, the average, 1961. This was in the height of their great baseball team. Right. Their average attendance that year, 21, 400.
Joe Soucheray
That's amazing.
John Haidt
So there you go.
Joe Soucheray
But again, baseball. Again, no one was marketing baseball. The only people who went really loved baseball.
Chris Reivers
That and people worked.
Joe Soucheray
Now you're marketing baseball to people who have no idea what baseball ball is. Right. And it works.
Kenny Olson
One more thing. If you're going to go down to Harmony in southern Minnesota, bring your fishing rod, because that's where all the good trout streams.
Chris Reivers
Oh, yeah.
Joe Soucheray
I'm going to Fleet Farm and buy me a rod.
Kenny Olson
A fly rod.
Joe Soucheray
I might be buying me a fishing rod.
John Haidt
Nice.
Joe Soucheray
I'm not done. What's your problem?
Chris Reivers
It's 140.
Joe Soucheray
So we're not done with this sports disappointment history. I'm sorry, we got a little waylaid there with a tendency. Figures.
John Haidt
I got more.
Chris Reivers
No,
Joe Soucheray
no. Where did I come up with that?
John Haidt
With.
Joe Soucheray
Wait a minute.
Kenny Olson
Don't tell me you're reading the wrong day.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, God. Didn't I tell you? The blow up doll. You did.
John Haidt
Yeah, you did.
Joe Soucheray
Where did I come up with this? This isn't in here. The first. Oh, it was on this day in history. History wasn't. Was, wasn't part of the sports disappointment.
Kenny Olson
Isn't it interesting now that we're ending the way we began with nothing but confusion?
Joe Soucheray
Always. That's a key, man. A beginning, a middle and an end that ties to the beginning. Bring it all back around on this day in sports disappointment history.
Chris Reivers
Joe, who'd we lose to?
Joe Soucheray
1981. The North Stars lost the Stanley cup to the Islanders, who were in the midst of, I think, four straight years of winning the cup.
Chris Reivers
You covered that one.
Joe Soucheray
I. I did. On this day, May 21, in 2006, the legislature approved funding for the dump. No, no, the new bill. Yeah, the new park.
Chris Reivers
The new dome.
Joe Soucheray
On this day, May 21, in 2007, Target Field. Construction began. On this day, May 21, Wild hired GM Fence Fenton. They didn't take long to get rid of him.
Chris Reivers
No, he didn't last long.
Joe Soucheray
On this day, May 21, in 2022, the Vixen lost at St. Louis because they wouldn't turn the lights on. Huh. So in other words, they're playing in the dark. I guess. But why didn't the other team complain, too?
Kenny Olson
Vixen.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah. I don't even know what sport this is.
Chris Reivers
It was female football.
Kenny Olson
Oh, isn't that kind of a tawdry name for a gal? She's a Vixen.
Joe Soucheray
Well, it's a football name, Kenny. You'll get over it.
Kenny Olson
Okay, I. You're, you're right.
John Haidt
I'm.
Kenny Olson
I am over it.
Joe Soucheray
All right. Thank you, G. Yes.
Chris Reivers

Mishke
Live Golf is looking for some money at the end of end of this year. As many of you are quite aware, we'll say that the Saudi public investment fund PIF is going to cut off funding to Live Golf. I imagine that the investment has not lived up to their expectations and you can definitely see that in the TV ratings of Live Golf. But the golfers who took the early money just a few years years ago have definitely banked that. But for them to get back on the PGA Tour is quite difficult. So the, I'll say the executives that Live Golf are in search of about $350 million to keep the tour going either for the balance of this year or into next until they acquire additional sponsors and we'll say TV programming for their tour. I'M not sure how this is going to end up but they're defin definitely going to be looking for some large or I'll say deep pocketed money lenders which could come from the private equity space, could come from some hedge funds or some very deep pocketed golf enthusiasts or others who want to be associated with golf. Could be very interesting and particularly as we've seen an indoor golf definitely designed for TV and that's generated some advertising and that's back by Tiger Wood. Now meantime, in terms of terms of fundraising a lot of news has come up and I've had numerous clients call me about Base X and getting in on their IPO which is said to be coming to market the middle of June. Basics recently did some of their preliminary filing. They do have a market symbol spcx. They do have a lead underwriter coming from Goldman Sachs and they are looking to come out with a valuation of one and a half number. I mean that is an astonishing number for it for an ipo. All the hype around around this there are plenty of individuals call that retail who want in on this, on this deal because they believe that it that this will have a significant pop from the IPO price to the first trades that they can make some easy money on that. Now just some cautionary events. Yes, this is probably one of the more hype IPOs around or at that I have have heard there's been a lot of we'll say Internet traffic that I have seen talks about how to get into the space act or it even issues the ipo. There are numerous ways that you know that that it can be had particularly going in with some mutual funds that have bought bought shares early in some early funding rounds notably Ron Barron's Barron Funds. Cathie Wood with the Ark Investments are two several groups group that bought in early to provide funding to to space. And then of course there. There are numerous companies have owned or portions of basic in the Pre market including EchoStar and Zoom Communications as well as Google have participated in early funding of SpaceX. Now with SpaceX again which is looking for a $1.5 trillion valuation on only $19 billion dollars in revenues in the last year and generating significant loss. Indeed there's only one part of SpaceX that is profitable and that is Starlink or their connectivity group. Starlink you may be aware does we'll say space space to earth satellite hookups for both the Internet and for you know for, for cell cell phone service and if you're flying on several airlines like United Airlines, their Internet service comes from, from Starlink while you're, while you're flying on, while you're flying United. But that's the only division of Space Steps actually makes money. So with SpaceX you have the, the rockets that are launched. You have Starlink, the money maker, you have, have Xai, Elon Musk's artificial intelligence company and you also have X formerly known as Twitter. So three out of the four divisions are losing money right now. One the Starlink is making money money. The revenues are very, very small relative to the potential valuation. But there are some positives around this in terms of early investors are not necessarily going to be locked up for significant periods of time and that will allow more shares we'll say to enter the, we'll say public sphere over the, over the next six months rather than all at once in a lockup which tends to dilute earlier investors investors quicker and hurts hurts the share price. This is going to be an interesting deal and could take money from other, you know, other investments. But the cachet will say of Elon Musk, you know, could prevail with this upcoming ipo. There are other others that will be coming to market but probably the more interesting ones other than SpaceX will be OpenAI and anthropic.
Chris Reivers

GARAGE LOGIC PODCAST #1783
May 21, 2026
In this episode, host Joe Soucheray (“The Mayor”) and the regular Garage Logic lineup dive into current events, local politics, social change, and a healthy dose of everyday Minnesota commentary. The cast brings their usual blend of wit, skepticism, and common sense to topics including the Minneapolis political landscape, the departure of businesses from progressive cities, local fraud scandals, and some light-hearted banter about lawn care and vehicle maintenance.
The largely unscripted conversation continually circles back to how urban voting patterns, complacency, and “failed academy” mindsets foster the continuation of progressive leadership—even when it seems counter to basic economic or civic logic.
“It is just a matter of time when you too will hit your number. The time is now to start paying attention to who to vote for. Complacency got us here, and more complacency will seal our fate.”
“If that's all you're gonna do in life is pour coffee, good luck to you. I'm being judgmental, aren't I?” — Joe (16:11) “I think the claims that millionaires are going to leave our state are like super overblown. And if you know the ones that leave like bye.” — Katie Wilson [recorded quote, 15:31]
“It's very easy to be a socialist when your biggest concern in life is where you're going to go to get a cup of coffee.” — Joe (24:18)
“What obligation does Starbucks or REI have to accommodate the constituency that voted for Katie Wilson? … They exist to flourish.” — Joe (43:56)
“No one in Minneapolis rallied up against fraud … that ideology isn’t there.” — Joe (65:22)
“So you’re all going to lose your bleep over it and you’ll say it’s climate change, but it’s happened before and it will happen again.” — Joe (87:12)
The episode is quintessential Garage Logic: lively, self-aware, steeped in a Midwestern blue-collar sensibility. The hosts mix serious commentary with banter, sometimes veering into gallows humor or nostalgia before circling back to a central thesis: “common sense” is outnumbered; political and cultural tides are shifting; and the only solace is in calling it straight, sharing a laugh, and hoping for the best in your own backyard.
