Just a heads up to you folks sitting with a notebook and pen Mishke. The new podcast here in Garage Logic Land is now coming out twice a week, Wednesdays and Fridays. If you're in fact scribbling this down, Wednesday is kind of tough to spell. It's not like it sounds. You want to spell it W, E, n, z, but that, of course would be a mistake. Friday is spelled just like it sounds. You're gonna be okay there, but Wednesday's a bugaboo. Let me tell you people. Just a pain in the patootie. Jeez, it's hard.

Hey rook, I got your mic.
Joe Soucheray
Kelly Wing in Cross Junction, Virginia writes. After hearing today's show, meaning yesterday, about the ever growing number of Minnesota cities flying the true flag, I decided to take action. I have made a website to list the Minnesota cities flying the one and true flag. Www.thetrueflag.com Gumption counties on the list. Would you look that up, Gabe? WWW TheTrueFlag. One word. TheTrueFlag.com and there it is. Kelly's as good as his word. He's down in Cross Junction, Virginia and he's appreciating the struggle we go through to maintain the once great state of Minnesota.
Kenny
Look at the list of cities.
Gabe
Now remind me, did Alpha news feature this or is the Alpha news team behind this?
Joe Soucheray
Why?
Gabe
The website you just mentioned, Kelly Wing
Joe Soucheray
in Virginia is a beautiful.
Gabe
Oh, okay.
Kenny
Yeah. I think this is our deal.
Gabe
Okay.
Joe Soucheray
Kyle writes outside the Spicer Minnesota city hall there is only one flagpole and it flies Old Glory. I have the feeling the city of Spicer leadership is left leaning. However, in the city's Purota park on beautiful Green Lake, we have three flag poles flying Old Glory, a POW flag and the true flag of Minnesota. Now let Me. Stop right there. There's got, got to be a way that we keep this from going tribal. I don't think this should be a left right thing.
Kenny
Oh, it's too late.
Joe Soucheray
I know, but it, it really isn't a left right thing.
Kenny
You know, it's even more people deprived
Joe Soucheray
of their voice thing.
Kenny
Joe, flying the American flag is a tribal thing. Now, if you fly right, if you fly it, you're considered a right wing nut. And I keep telling the lefties, this is your flag, flag, flag.
Joe Soucheray
It's proud of your country. I'll give you this one. Gabe Clark Schmidt writes, I drove past the city of Ramsey City hall this morning. They are flying the true flag. By the looks of the flag, I would guess they never stopped flying it. All right, that is. What did he say? Ramsey? Are they on our board?
Gabe
They're not. And they are also not on this website. I just looked.
Joe Soucheray
Okay, there's another one, Gabe,
Kenny
on the list that Kelly compiled. He's got Fulda spelled F O, L, G A, which I just love.
Joe Soucheray
Isn't that a Coffee Folgers?
Kenny
Close. We gotta hit Patrick with that.
Joe Soucheray
This one is from Chris Carlson. Good morning. Just wanted to send you a picture confirming that Crosby is in fact flying the true flag. We have Crosby's already posted on the hall of Fame, by the way. I haven't heard it mentioned recently about how flags were created to be emblematic, to be meaningful. And how at least one way people could use their flag would be to fly it upside down to signal they are in distress. They obviously can't be. That can't even be done with the fraud flag. It's meaningless. And not to throw a wrench in the name choosing, but it came to me yesterday after listening to the discussion that wouldn't the traditional flag be a good fit? Just a thought. Take care, Chris. We don't need to confirm this. Crosby is already on the hall of Fame. Oh, and I have this note from Tom Berg, the mayor of Lonsdale. I can verify that the beautiful city of Lonsdale is a true Minnesota city. We have continued to fly the original Minnesota flag at our City Hall, Fire Department, Lions park, and also our Veterans memorial. We have enough in stock to last us years. We reject this new government flag. That's history is only related to fraud, waste and abuse. If St. Paul wants to penalize our LGA, what's that? Legislative money. They will force us to consider litigation. And I have no doubt in my mind that we will succeed. God bless all of you at Garage Logic and thank you for what you do best. Tom Berg. So Lonsburg here. Gabe gets added to the list.
Kenny
Lonsdale.
Joe Soucheray
Lonsdale. Berg's the mayor.
Kenny
We should change the name of the town to that just to honor Tom.
Joe Soucheray
This also is making national news. I have it here someplace. It made the Fox national news site. I'm sure it made others, but Minnesota mayors are rejecting their that that bill by. Is it Mike Freeberg, the dfler who's never been heard from before? Something Stein that's dead on arrival. That ain't gonna work.
Kenny
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
Plus it's be illegal of him. But. But the. The mysterians are getting bold, aren't they? Oh, I'll say they're really getting bold. Look, if you don't fly this fantasy flag we came up with, you're not going to get any money. Go bleep yourself, pal.
Kenny
That's just.
Joe Soucheray
Wow. Members of Minnesota's DFL party pushed legislation Monday to reduce state aid by to a county or city that flies or otherwise makes use of a state flag other than the state flag certified in the report of the State Emblems Redesign Commission, about which the public had nothing to do. Champlain Mayor Ray Sabas. Whose city is Champlain in the hall of Fame? Champlin is in the hall of Fame.
John Haidt
Remember, they were one of the first.
Joe Soucheray
That's right. Champlin Mayor Ryan Sabas, who said he voted in favor of flying the original flag in February, cited the bill as a ridiculous reaction. It's just ridiculous. Bill the Democrats are signing onto because they're scared that this has gained traction. They are. The mysterians are nervous and they should be. They think they only govern the urban areas. There's a lot of people in this state who work hard and have to pay the taxes to clean up your horrible mistakes. Now that it has gained attention. This is Sabas. Every week there's another city or two or three that are passing the same resolution, moving forward, not staying silent anymore. You know, sometimes it takes the simplest thing. The flag could be a real savior to this state. Sabas explained that he and the city council made the decision after holding a public discussion, pointing out that most of the local residents were in favor of returning to the original flag. He argued that a bill pulling city aid would go against constituents. The simple fact that they say they're going to withhold any kind of funding from a city is ridiculous. That's the people's money, Sabas said. That's the people's taxes. Cross Lake Mayor Jackson Purfuerst. We told him or we mentioned him the other day that he is thrilled with other cities and mayors pushing back, calling it insane and total government overreach. Punishing local governments for exercising their right to choose on something that is supposed to be voluntary does not reflect Minnesota values. It is a, an overreach of power, plain and simple in Minnesota. Local control, fiscal responsibility and giving people a voice still matters. Well, it hasn't mattered. That's the problem. This flag is helping to remind us that it matters. North Branch. Is North Branch in the hall of Fame, Gabe.
Patrick Reusse
Huh?
Joe Soucheray
North Branch is up. North Branch Mayor Kevin Scheiber, whose city chose not to fly the new flag as opposed to the new one, saw the reaction to the bill as a good opportunity to raise awareness for local Minnesota citizens who feel ignored by the state's decision to change flags. This is fantastic, this state. There are great, great hard working people in this state and they've been condescended to and, and lectured by these pompous charlatans who sounded the alarm. They played the racism card on the old flag, which is utter nonsense. Indian heritage, Native American heritage is embedded in this state's history. And you got rid of a flag where the brave is going one way and he's giving a little wave to the pioneer tilling the soil. Now in a state where Native American culture is embedded in the state's history. Where's the Indian? He's gone. Completely gone. Replaced by two shades of blue and a star, which is a kindergartner's first meaningless scrawl. There's nothing to it.
Kenny
Just another case where Democrat ideas have failed and come back to haunt them.
Joe Soucheray
They don't work, you know, they love,
Kenny
they love erasing history. If you're going to change Lake Calhoun to BDE Makas, fine. But I want a plaque explaining everything about Calhoun. I want to know everything about him. And then you can put another plaque up telling me about Bidet, Makaska and Indian. Names for lakes educate people, don't erase history.
Joe Soucheray
Well, we went through this at the time and the problem, the park board sold the people and the people, unfortunately don't pay any attention. And they bought the BS is that they got away with saying they had to change the name because Calhoun owned slaves.
Josh Arnold
Right.
Joe Soucheray
That's different than the people who named the lake naming it for him because he owned slaves.
Kenny
That's a great point.
Joe Soucheray
That had nothing to do with it. Calhoun was their boss. They're out at Fort Snelling, they're exploring. They come across this nice lake. It has a name, presumably One they could not. And they said, let's name this for Calhoun. The lake was not named for Calhoun because he owns slaves, you phony charlatans. Who changed the name. It had nothing to do with it. And I said at the time, this will never end. Well, we saw it with the state flag. It's never going to end, ever. Because these people are insane. They have dark souls and they have a dystopian view of everything. Look at.
Kenny
Well said.
Joe Soucheray
So. So put that in your pipe and smoke.
Gabe
You know what Joe's saying to the state of Minnesota?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
Kenny
State Representative Greg David's Republican from Preston. He's a representative. Said, I don't know if he said this on the floor or if he just released this, but I'm finding this on the Minnesota House of Representatives website. He said, under state law, cities and counties do not have to accept this flag. It would make more sense to pass a law to get rid of this homely thing once and for all, put it in a museum somewhere and never speak of it again. He goes on and on. But then he raised a really good point that I hadn't considered. He said that you can't tell a town to fly whatever state flag you want and then take the funding away if they dislike this version. I have so many flags right now that I could put up a new one until I turn 160. And that got me thinking. When this law passed, what did you do, Joe? You went and bought a couple Minnesota flags, as did I, as did everybody else. And so what the Democrats don't realize is they actually think of the business and the money they encourage to be spent.
Gabe
Oh, you know what?
Kenny
People spending money. It's like when they say we're gonna outlaw high capacity magazines for firearms and everybody goes out and buys 30 high capacity magazines.
Gabe
It's the same thing. Remember the story we had a couple years ago of John's favorite country music artists that. That tried this in a small town? And we're like, they're gonna try to ban this song. And that it was the number one song.
Kenny
And then we go. Then we can go all the way back to Tipper Gore if you want to talk music. Because she did the same thing with the album stickers.
Joe Soucheray
Who was it?
Kenny
It wasn't Clown Posse. It was one of those Florida rap bands from Florida.
John Haidt
Yeah, yeah.
Kenny
And boy, they would. They would have died on the vine if Tipper Gore hadn't started talking about him.
Gabe
Jason Aldean. That's what I'm thinking of.
Joe Soucheray

We were talking about the left. Doesn't really get much done. Today, May 1, 2026 marks 2,167 days where the 26 neighborhoods of the 3rd Precinct in Minneapolis have not had a police station within their boundaries. Oh my God. That's 252more days than Paris took to rebuild the cathedral of Notre Dame which burned in a fire. This is a note from the Minneapolis Times. That's a wonderful note. We've now taken 13% more time than Paris needed. But they have something magnificent, magnificent, magnificent to show for it. A rebuilt 226 foot tall, 64,600 square foot cathedral. One that attracts visitors from all over the world. We have approximately nothing. But when we get it fixed up, it will be part of the crime tour.
Gabe
Do you think?
Joe Soucheray
And visitors will want to go there.
Gabe
Do you think it's because the city has been focusing so much attention on George Floyd Square that we just haven't been able to have a chance to get around to it? Or is it going to be on the same par with getting that all fixed up?
Joe Soucheray
I'm sorry, I. I have to ask you a question.
Gabe
Sure.
Joe Soucheray
What? What are you talking about?
Gabe
Well, we took forever.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, I'm sorry. My fault.
Gabe
No, it's okay.
Kenny
I have an answer.
Joe Soucheray
I thought we were talking about George Floyd Square. You're right. We're talking about the third Precinct. Yes.
Gabe
You're rattled. You've been babysitting all the time.
Joe Soucheray
I have a kid dumped in my lap. I don't know what the hell's going on.
Kenny
Here's my answer, Chris. I think it's the same concept, only different with the third precept.
Joe Soucheray
Think, Joe.
Kenny
I actually think that this, for them is a monument. And they want to. They want it just the way it is, to stay there as a reminder. That's what I truly believe.
Joe Soucheray
It's a shame. It degrades the city and it degrades commerce. It decrease. It degrades public health. None of these things are the concern of a Marxist.
Kenny
You know whose ward that is? That's Ward 9, I believe. Right.
Joe Soucheray
That Chavez.
Gabe
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
He's not qualified to be.
Kenny
No, I guarantee you he is proud of this just from the things he's been saying since he's been in office.
Gabe
Kenny is scary, right? With this one.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, you shouldn't say scary, but that's what this.
Gabe
This is terrifying because Kenny's nailed it. Why would we want to rebuild it? Kenny's right.
Joe Soucheray
At the same time, we learned. Just a minute. What do I have here? We learn that the Mayor Fry has now vetoed for a second time the effort of the council to extend the pre eviction notice filing period. The ordinance, which the city council passed eight to five, would temporarily require landlords to wait 45 days instead of 30 before bringing an eviction notice to the renter. Supporters of the ordinance say it would ease the burden on vulnerable communities impacted by Operation Metro Surge. How long are you going to get away with that excuse and give them more time not to go out and work, not to scramble, not to find some dough, not to sell a car, but to access more assistance? Now, I'm not wishing hardship on any of you scrambling to pay the rent, but in the absence of assistance, are you going to have more money after 45 days than you do after 30? All fry is alert to is not extending your burden. Your financial burden will only grow the longer you are forgiven from paying your rent. It behooves anyone with rent due to pay it when it's due so it doesn't pile up on you. The council doesn't see it that way.
Kenny
Once again, they think they're helping and they're only hurting. Well, thank God the mayor shut it down. Did I just say thank God in the mayor in the same sentence you did? That's
Matthew
odd.
Joe Soucheray
Fry said eviction extensions and moratoriums will create a larger debt trap for our already vulnerable neighbors facing housing insecurity. But we love to use the word insecurity, don't we? As a result of Operation Metro Surge, Fry said, as I articulated when I vetoed a 60 day eviction notice. Oh, I see what they did. Fry vetoed 60, so the council come back with 45.
Kenny
Yeah, negotiating.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, I veto a 60 day eviction notice. Rental assistance is the best way to support renters. That's why I have signed a $3.8 million in rental assistance and secured $3 million in matching funds. So the taxpayers are basically having to be on the hook for this.
Kenny
How can the council members not do the simple math and see plainly for their own eyes that their ideas are hurting?
Joe Soucheray
If you have as your only life experience the failed academy and you've never worked a demanding job in your life, and the only thing that is guiding your life are these gossamer theories that you learn in the failed academy, you have no hope to understand the urgency of paying a bill on time. Those are called bills. Marxists. Those are called bills or rent. And you have no concept of the chain of events that takes place when the rent is paid. The landlord has taxes to pay. The landlord has heating bills to pay. The landlord just had to hire a new roofer. The landlord has some groundskeeping work to be done. The landlord has some painting work to be done. It is the renter's responsibility to pay the rent, and it's the landlord's responsibility to keep the place ship shape. And the people on the Minneapolis City council do not have an earthly idea of commerce. Not a single shred of knowledge about the real world that g lers live in. Not one.
Kenny
It's like they assume that money is just going into a big money silo. You know what I mean, right?
Gabe
He's Scrooge McDuck swimming in it.
Kenny
Yeah, like sue just said, it pays the mortgage. It keeps a roof over your head and all the repairs and bills, you dumb dumbs.
Joe Soucheray
None of the city council people, dear renters, none of them would ever be capable of providing you a place to rent. They are capable of stealing more and more tax money to help you rent, but they will run out of that ability. That ability will end when people wise up and just get the hell out of here if they don't elect some new people. Because this city, like this state, is in ruins and there's a great symbol of it. Just go on. Near Lake and Minnehaha. There's no third Precinct building. It's a charred shell. After more. No, after exactly five years.
Gabe
No, six. There'll be six. Memorial Day weekend.
Joe Soucheray
Five. Six.
Kenny
Yeah, yeah.
Gabe
Or I guess shortly after Memorial Day weekend.
Joe Soucheray
Six years.
Gabe
You're not good at math.
Kenny
There's more. Minneapolis and money news that came out. John, did you have this in time for the news or did this develop late in the afternoon? City of Minneapolis awarding 1 million in grants to 34 community based organizations due to surge.
Joe Soucheray
That's all fraud.
Kenny
That money will, you know, you 99.9% correct.
John Haidt
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
There's no hope that that's going to be put to credible use.
Matthew
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
Just like when they hired the gangs to walk around and pretend they were on duty.
Gabe
Yeah.
Kenny
Back to my thing though. In case you're falling in love with the mayor for vetoing that the grants are part of a broader $7 million initiative authorized by Jacob Fry and the city council to support businesses revenue due to surge.
Joe Soucheray
I guess what you could do renters is just don't pay it. And hang on, they'll figure out a way to cover it for you. Just the hell with it. Don't pay it.
Gabe
The whole using the Metro surge as an excuse. This plays right into never let it. What is it? Never let a crisis go to waste.
John Haidt
To waste.
Kenny
Yeah.
Gabe
Because the city was in ruin before the Metro surge took place.
Joe Soucheray
Do you realize that the small business owners themselves said, we'll show you we're gonna close for a day and not make any money.
Gabe
And we all pointed out that that's
Joe Soucheray
the point of that.
Kenny
So they could get their money.
Joe Soucheray
What's the point of that? That was ridiculous.
Patrick Reusse
Let's go.
Joe Soucheray
Let's talk to John Haidt about news and stuff, huh?
Gabe
Sure.
Kenny
And stuff.
Joe Soucheray
First, I'm going to tell you about Bradshaw and Bryant. There's too many distracted drivers out there. People be careful. They could get you in an accident. God forbid you're injured. You'd have to deal with an insurance company. That's where Bradshaw and Bryant take over. Mike. Bryant will put together a team. They'll explain your rights. They're going to represent you. Get through. You get this fish. They'll fix all the. You know, never bring a baby in when I'm trying to do a show because I just. I get overwhelmed with the baby. Bradshaw and Bryant will get you through that tough time. Mike's one of the best. I hope you're never in an accident, but if you are, call Bradshaw and Bryant at 800-770-7008 or go to MinnesotaTapersonAlinjury.com for a free case evaluation. And please don't be part of the problem. Don't text and drive. Or drive. Distracted. That's just common sense from Bradshaw and Bryant. It.
Patrick Reusse

Joe Soucheray
Here's a man who spends hours in hardware stores sifting through the nuts and bolts of life. Joe Sucere.
Gabe
You know I want to talk about masters maples@mastersmaples.com since kids seems to be the theme of today's show, I got a story about mine. He had a sleepover, my 11 year old son, nice enough that they made pancakes in the morning. And when he got home he said, dad, I gotta bring my own syrup next time.
Joe Soucheray
They didn't have the maple syrup.
Gabe
They didn't have the Masters maple syrup at home. So he's been I wouldn't ever go
Joe Soucheray
back to that house.
Gabe
I don't think they can ever be friends again, that's for sure. Masters Maples is a Wonderful product. It's 100% Minnesota made and it's quality handcrafted maple syrup right here in the great state of Minnesota. It's our buddy Ben, a true die hard gl er and this was his creation 12 almost 13 years ago. And Masters Maples is the best 100% pure Minnesota Maple syrup. And you know what? Available at all of your Fratelloni's hardware and garden stores locations. In addition to the maple syrup, Fratelloni's also carries the maple sugar that's pure 100% maple sugar, by the way. And also the sweet and savory seasonings and rubs. I made burgers over the weekend with the savory mix. My goodness gracious is that fantastic. But you can also order it online at Masters Mate. Place your order, let them know you heard about them on the GL podcast and you too can taste the difference.
Joe Soucheray
Here's John Haidt.
John Haidt
Thank you Joe. This news brought to you by a North American banking company. Big, big night in sports here in the Twin Cities. Yesterday The Wild defeat Dallas 52 to move on in the NHL playoffs, they'll move on to round two against the Colorado Avalanche as of this schedule about an hour ago. Still, as of this writing. Excuse me, no schedule for round. However, you can get single game tickets. Tickets for games that'll be played here starting today at 4pm at Gran Casino Arena.
Joe Soucheray
I have a basketball question.
John Haidt
Yes, sir.
Joe Soucheray
Last night, that big O for Denver, Jokic, he pushed somebody down and he didn't. All it resulted from. It was a technical. Yes, that's it.
Gabe
Well, they.
Joe Soucheray
You could do that. You can manhandle people.
Gabe
They assess technical to multiple players. I know on that one play.
Kenny
Have you seen the wnba? It's a fist fight.
Joe Soucheray
It's a amazing.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah.
John Haidt
You watch the NBA and you think in the middle, they could call a foul every time the ball goes toward the middle.
Joe Soucheray
But those guys can't afford to fight each other because they literally kill each other. They don't have any uniforms and they don't have any protection.
Gabe
There is greater restraint shown by both, I think, teams and also the referees in those situations.
Joe Soucheray
I was amazed. I thought maybe Joe could get kicked out of the game.
Gabe
If that's a regular season game in February.
Matthew
Yeah.
Gabe
There probably would have been ejections.
Kenny
Yep.
John Haidt
There. Speaking of that. What Joe was speaking of. The Timberwolves beat Denver last night to move on in the NBA playoffs. The Wolves now play the San Antonio Spurs. No times yet, but we do have days for the games. Game one will be Monday, May 4th in San Antonio. Game two, Wednesday, May 6th, in San Antonio. And game three and four. Games three and four will be here Friday, May 8th, and Sunday, May 10th. Oh, yeah.
Gabe
Oh, go ahead. I was just gonna say thank you to loyal listener Brian for sending me this note. After last night's Wild and Timberwolves victories, moving to the second round, Governor Tim Walls is taking credit for that happening.
Kenny
Twins also played, did they not?
Joe Soucheray
They won. They won.
John Haidt
I was just gonna say and. Oh, yeah. Just to throw it in. The Twins won last night. To being the Toronto Blue Jays.
Joe Soucheray
What am I hearing? I have a request.
Kenny
Joe, you're probably hearing a baby cooing in the other room. I have a request.
Joe Soucheray
Like a mourning dove. Yes.
Kenny
Kenny, can you not engage Patrick in any sort of discussion at all about the Wild? As you know, I'm very superstitious and I. I don't think we should talk to him about hockey.
Joe Soucheray
I won't let him say something stupid. Stupid.
Kenny
Now, if I see the conversation going that way, I'm taking my head. I can't.
Gabe
I want no part of this can't
Kenny
be a part of that.
Joe Soucheray
Although you owe me five because the Wild beat Dallas. I've got another five that says the Wild Beat Colorado.
Kenny
I'm not taking that even that kind of behavior.
Joe Soucheray
No, that's just. No, I'm not talking about the C word. Yeah, okay.
John Haidt
That kind of behavior. Kelly sounds like a teacher, doesn't he?
Joe Soucheray
What kind of behavior?
Kenny
I just, I just.
John Haidt
Yeah, let's not talk about it in news breaking story. I understand we are a podcast and it won't be breaking by the time a lot of people listen to it, but there's a active law enforcement incident in Edina. Remember where last week we had the one near South Center? This is in the same exact area.
Joe Soucheray
What the hell?
John Haidt
Police are asking the public to avoid the area of 63rd street and York Avenue south until further, further notice. Multiple agencies appear to be at the scene. This is as of about 10 minutes ago, including a SWAT unit. Last week, a fatal shooting just a couple of blocks away caused Southdale Mall and several other nearby businesses to go into lockdown as officers looked for suspects.
Joe Soucheray
Diana is just, you know, Louis Vuitton and expensive cakes.
Kenny
It was.
Joe Soucheray
What the hell is going on here?
Kenny
63rd in York, John. It's actually Xerxes there, but I don't know why they called it that. But that's really close to the crossroads.
Gabe
You remember years ago when Reverend Tim came on and said that what's happening in Minneapolis is going to spill to the first ring.
Joe Soucheray
I told you, I read something the other day where he said St. Louis and Edina are next. St. Louis park and Edina are next.
Kenny
That's what's happening.
Gabe
That's what's happening.
Kenny
And by the way, that shooting that happened, was it. Did you say earlier in the week, John? Down last week?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
Kenny
Yeah. That building they were at, that's affordable housing there. Cops are there all the time.
Gabe
I do have video, Johnny. Of the Edina Police Chief. This was posted 1 minute ago from Fox Night. Do you want to hear a little bit? Providing an update on the. A man was shot in a domestic related incident.
Patrick Reusse
All right, good.
Joe Soucheray
All right, thank you, everyone. I'm Chief Todd Milburn with the Udan Police Department.
Kenny
I'm going to give you a statement
Joe Soucheray
here today and we'll answer a couple questions here at the end of it. Today at about 10:45am Friday, May 1,
Kenny
officers were called to the 6300 block of York Avenue. I was wrong.
Joe Soucheray
On a report of a shooting.
Kenny
When officers arrived, they found one adult
Joe Soucheray
victim who was shot.
Kenny
The victim was transported to Hennepin County
Joe Soucheray
Medical center with serious injuries.
Kenny
The suspect left the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived and around noon the suspect was arrested in Brooklyn Park. At this time, officers believe this is a domestic related shooting and it is not random.
Joe Soucheray
That's enough.
Kenny
Okay, so York and Xerxes run parallel to each other in that neighborhood right there. So you were correct, John. I apologize.
John Haidt
In other news, Minnesota Representative Kristen Robbins has suspended her campaign to be the state's next governor, her decision announced this morning by her campaign office. Robins said in part after much thought and prayer, I've decided to suspend my campaign for governor of Minnesota. Our state government and political system are broken and after fighting for Minnesotans from the inside for the past eight years, I have determined the best way for me to fight for the future of our state is from the outside. Before suspending her campaign, Robbins was running on a platform of stopping fraud in Minnesota, fighting against sanctuary policies for undocumented people in Minnesota, and lowering taxes and energy costs for Minnesotans. Robinson she does plan to continue to represent House District 37A until January 2027 and has indicated she will not run for office after her departure. Running Running under the GOP ticket. Her departure narrows the wide selection of Republican candidates running for governor to set House Speaker Lisa Damith, Kendall Quals and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell right now are the remaining frontrunners.
Kenny
She's been chairing these fraud meetings in the House and doing a hell of a job.
John Haidt
President Trump's administration withholding another $91 million in federal Medicaid funding for Minnesota, citing continued concerns about fraud. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet I. Oz says his office notified the state and Governor Walz yesterday. It comes after the agency froze nearly $260 million in Minnesota Medicaid funding earlier this year. That deferral sparked a legal challenge, but a federal judge declined this month to force CMS to return that money to Minnesota. This latest deferral is again due to concerns about how the state is managing the funds. Oz says $76 million of the funding is tied to 14 pro programs designated as high risk for fraud and integrity issues. The remainder is earmarked for other programs that CMS apparently thinks have benefited undocumented immigrants. Some details missing in this story. Wilmer police are investigating a shooting that injured one person on First street south yesterday. According to the press release, the department considers the incident a reckless discharge of a firearm, thinking it was not a targeted attack. Attack it happened at about 12:40 in the afternoon yesterday in a business in the 700 block of First Street south, where police said a man walked into the building and was hit by a small caliber bullet. Man's injuries were not life threatening. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to call the Wilmer police department. For the first time in 100 years, evidence has been documented showing that cougars could be reproducing in Minnesota, increasing the chance that the species could return to the state. That evidence was first documented by the University of Minnesota's Voyagers Wolf project, which captured a female cougar traveling alongside three large kittens near Voyageurs National Park. While lone cougars have been captured on camera before, the sight of three kittens traveling with mom is a first for Minnesota in the 21st century century. Something that hasn't been documented in over 100 years. Thomas Gable, project lead of the Voyagers Wolf project, says looking at the footage was and still is surreal. We never anticipated seeing four cougars together in northern Minnesota. In total, we captured around four hours of footage of the cougar family at a kill. And it was fascinating to see and hear their interactions. The mother grooming her kittens and the kittens growling and hissing at each other. The cougars were found south of Voyageurs nationally park after the Voyagers wolf project set up a camera near a dead deer that they believed had been hunted by a cougar.
Joe Soucheray
So who wins? A cougar or a wolf? Cougar in a fight. Cougar, cougar.
Kenny
That's just my opinion, man. Any word from the dnr? If they finally acknowledge that the cougars they have been saying aren't here, are here.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, their analogy.
John Haidt
The only thing they said was they talked about how old the kittens appeared to be. Be. That's the only, Only DNR quote in the story.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah.
Gabe
Why. Why are they refusing the acknowledgment, Kenny?
Kenny
Because the DNR has no idea what's going on beyond the borders of Minneapolis and St. Paul. They set all the rules. They make the laws, they enforce the laws. They, they. They control how many deer, ducks, fish, everything else we get. And they have no idea. None at all.
Gabe
So quite symbolic.
Kenny
Six ducks a person when. No, no ducks come through the state, we should have a three duck limit. What's that all about? Dnr. You have no idea what's going on with the deer herd. Can I go on for another hour? Two hours here?
John Haidt
No. You're getting yourself worked up, Kenny. I don't like It. Oh, my God.
Joe Soucheray
You should be able to take more deer, right?
Kenny
Yeah. Yeah. Let's talk about turkeys. Oh, my Lord.
John Haidt
Oh, okay.
Joe Soucheray
I tripped over one trying to get my mail. Really? Yeah. They're everywhere.
Kenny
And it's the same with Fisher and all the furbearers. It's incredible. They have no idea what's really going on.
Joe Soucheray
It all began when dogs went on the leash. That's my theory about life in general. Once dogs were put on leashes, everything went to hell.
Kenny
They treat. They treat Fisher and otter like they're. You never see them, these things. They're more. I see more otter than I do blackbirds. Come on, man.
Joe Soucheray
Man, I saw a yellow bird today. Okay, well, it had to be. What, a goldfinch maybe? It was bright yellow with a little coloring in the wings.
Gabe
That's Joe's wilderness update.
Kenny
Yeah, we should have a sounder for that.
Joe Soucheray
Beautiful hair, 10ft tall.
John Haidt
Anoka's social district is expanding to year round. But city leaders and businesses said explaining and enforcing the rules remains a challenge. They started this, you might remember, about four years ago. The area allows people to drink alcohol outside in certain parts of downtown, including along Jackson Street. People understand the rules. Not fully. That's still a work in progress. Some people often focus only on the idea of open drinking. But that's not the way it's supposed to work. You're supposed to have a cup designated cup from whatever business you leave. So you have a beer in your hand. If you don't have that, then you're in violation. Anoka police are using uniformed and plainclothes officers to enforce the rules. You can do it from 10am because you can't drink all day if you don't start early until 10pm and people have to use those designated cups from the business. If you don't follow the rules, you could face a misdemeanor that results in jail time or a fine. Anoka Mayor Eric Scott Quest said officers are trying to leave. Lead with education.
Joe Soucheray
John, I just noticed your shirt. Very classy.
John Haidt
That's. That's a. That's a spice. Familiar with it? It's a wonderful spice.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
Kenny
Mamas slap your mama.
Joe Soucheray
Never heard of it.
John Haidt
It's from Louisiana and it's very good.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, thank you very much.
Kenny
To go glasses. You guys know about Wisconsin, right?
Joe Soucheray
I do not.
Kenny
You're halfway done with your beer, but you got to get out of there because the wife just called. They'll pour it in a to go cup and you can drink that thing on the way home.
Joe Soucheray
That's. That's not.
Kenny
I love you, Wisconsin.
Joe Soucheray
I'm not advocating that.
Kenny
You guys are insane.
Gabe
A friend of mine has a cabin on a lake that'll go nameless. And the town liquor store has a drive through.
Kenny
Oh, well.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, Nothing better in Wisconsin.
Kenny
Yeah, nothing better.
John Haidt
Why don't we take a quick break here and hear from our friend Mr. Olson?
Kenny
Okay, so there's been a slight change in the way we acquire Seafoam Motor Treatment here at Phony Outrage Ranch. This became about. Well, truth be told, I ran out a few weeks ago. Part of my fleet of cylinders consists of three trucks. I have three trucks, everybody. Someday I hope to have four. But recently, while administering doses of seafoam to the fleet, I ran out. That was very, very embarrassing. So now when we go to the Fleet Farm to buy seafoam, we buy them in bundles of three. I call it the you never know when Bundle. Three cans of Engine Treatment, three cans of Deep Creepy course, three or more spray bottles of Bugs be gone, just to make sure we have them within reach when we really, truly need them. Seafoam, I'm telling you, they do it right. No matter what the product are. They're just wonderful. And the motor treatment, it's just amazing. A wonderful product in a world of bad gas. Seafoam, John.
John Haidt
Thank you, Kenny. You know, as long as Joe, you brought it up, I'm gonna do a little ad here for Slap Ya Mama. Because it's so good. You buy the liquid, slap your mom, and you throw it on hash browns or on Eggs Delicious. You can buy it in local stores, even though it comes from Louisiana.
Joe Soucheray
All right.
John Haidt
Introduced to me by a guitarist from Louisiana who sent me a box of stuff because I did a story on him for Vintage Guitar magazine.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
John Haidt
And that was in there. And I. I've not stopped using it for 20 years.
Joe Soucheray
All right, very good.
Kenny
Mama said. Knock you out.
John Haidt
The House voted unanimously to approve the Senate's bill To end the 76 day partial government shutdown, sending the bill to Trump's desk for approval. The move is expected to soon end the longest partial government shutdown in U.S. history. The bill funds all Department of Homeland Security agencies except for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ice, and Border Patrol. Republicans will now work to supply additional funding to ICE and CBP through the budget reconciliation process, which requires a simple majority foregoing the need for any Democratic support. That process kicked off this week with House committees directed to draft legislation to deliver $70 billion to ICE and CBP through the end of President Trump's term. Democrats have refused to fund ICE and CBP without reforms after the deaths of U.S. citizens here in Minnesota. The shutdown saw more than 1,000 TSA agents leave the agency. President Trump said yesterday he's nominating radiologist and former Fox News Channel contributor Dr. Nicole Safari for Surgeon General after Dr. Casey Means Path Forward stalled in the Senate over questions about her experience and her stance on vaccines. In a social media post, the president said he would nominate Saphir, whom he called the star physician who has spent her career guiding women facing breast cancer through their diagnosis and treatment.
Joe Soucheray
I never heard of her.
John Haidt
I do not know her. Now, President Trump has repeatedly pressured the Fed to lower its benchmark rates, but the Federal Reserve bank of Minneapolis president says they may have to raise interest rates multiple times if the US Israeli war against Iran drags on. Neel Kashkari said both inflation and unemployment could rise if the Strait of Hormuz stay is closed. Kashkari wrote that opinion in an essay explaining his objection to language at this week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting suggesting likely future.
Gabe
Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. What do you mean, could I get how gas prices are affected and all that, but by saying could, doesn't that imply a bias by his thinking? That'd be like me saying if the Timberwolf.
Joe Soucheray
Okay, well, whatever.
Gabe
Okay, okay. It could. It also could rain gold coins tomorrow.
John Haidt
See, but he studies this. Chris, it's not like us. It's not like us. People who don't know anything and talk about.
Gabe
But they could have also lowered interest rates for the last year and a half and they decided not to.
John Haidt
Okay, sorry.
Gabe
I just.
Joe Soucheray
I don't even care.
Gabe
I know, but it's.
Joe Soucheray
I just don't care about anything.
Gabe
That's akin for this guy to say that the Metro surge caused Minneapolis to decay. That'd be the same thing.
Joe Soucheray
Well, a lot of times on the weather, they'll say there's a chance of rain. Well, isn't there always a chance of rain?
Gabe
That's right.
John Haidt
Well, I should just take everything off the news, then.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, yeah. Chris, you're being a little obtuse.
John Haidt
Everybody. Somebody who is an expert on whatever is pretty much what the news is.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah. Could rain.
Kenny
Chris, you're obtuse and I am a b. Obese. So make a great. You should be a radio morning show.
Gabe
Hey, call us now.
John Haidt
After spending recent weeks on life support. Live. Right.
Joe Soucheray
Live.
John Haidt
Live Golf has lost the funding of its Saudi backers. Live plans to tell players and staff that Saudi Arabia's public investment fund Will longer bankroll the circuit after this season. The move would sound the death knell for the upstart that sowed chaos in professional golf by plowing billions into the sport and poaching some A list players. The writing had been on the wall for nearly a month when PIF recently laid out its vision for the next five years. It made no mention of the league that has divided the golf world since it first teed off in 2022. People said that while Live has grown the sport globally, the operation was no longer concerned, consistent with a new phase of PIF's investment strategy. In the statement, PIF said the decision owed to investment priorities and current macro dynamics and that LIVE has forever changed the game of golf. Quote for the better.
Joe Soucheray
No, it hasn't. They played dump courses. Nobody paid attention to it. It was an aberration.
Gabe
Okay.
John Haidt
Quite the flight. A pregnant passenger gave birth aboard a recent flight from Atlanta to Portland, Oregon. Delta confirmed the baby's birth.
Joe Soucheray
A birth aboard DL then immediately charged the woman for a ticket for the kid.
Gabe
Right? Right.
John Haidt
It happened about 30 minutes before the plane landed at Portland International Airport. We thank the doctor and two nurses who stepped in to help the Delta flight crew. We extend our sincere thanks to the crew and medical volunteers on board who stepped in to provide care to one of our customers on board prior to landing in Portland. The health and safety of our customers is always our top priority, and we wish the new family all the best.
Joe Soucheray
I'm glad that turned out well. But how. What business did the woman have flying if she was that close?
Kenny
Thank you. And can you see? What if Royce was her seatmate?
Gabe
Oh, my God.
Kenny
Hey.
Joe Soucheray
Let's just keep going.
Kenny
Can you hold it? Yeah, just hold it.
Gabe
Well, the other question to you guys is, how long of a flight is that from Atlanta? Atlanta to Portland.
Joe Soucheray
It's a long flight trip. That's all day long?
Gabe
No, it's got to be, what, four hours? Even if it's four or five, that's a pretty quick delivery.
Joe Soucheray
Well, but don't get on the plane, lady.
Kenny
Well, maybe fourth, you know, lift the leg. Here we go.
Joe Soucheray
Bad say some hot water and some
Kenny
dinner on the table by five? Yeah, let's go. Just throw it in with the rest of them. You Catholics crack me up. Never enough kids.
John Haidt
The crew requested priority handling with air traffic control in the plane, which was carrying 153 customers and four flight attendants, was met by EMS. After landing, the airline added its crew members undergo comprehensive and medical training for such situations. On its website, Delta states it does not impose restrictions on flying if you are pregnant. Noting it doesn't require any sort of medical certification certificate for pregnant passengers to travel.
Joe Soucheray
There's a measurement or something when you're about to have them dilated. You know, maybe she was really up there and shouldn't have got on the plane.
Kenny
Or basketball.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I don't know if that's it, Kenny. It's. It's a number. It's a 6 or a 7.
Gabe
5 hours and 15 minutes is the flight duration. Straight non stop from Atlanta to Portland.
Joe Soucheray
That's a long flight.
Gabe
Flight, yeah, but for a delivery, you know, you're using there for a day.
Joe Soucheray
Well, that's true. Maybe the air pressure had something to do with it.
Gabe
Or maybe Kenny's theory is correct.
Kenny
Yeah, Catholic girl. This ain't the first time, John.
Joe Soucheray
That's just carrying this along. I got a flight to catch. We gotta go now.
Gabe
No, we gotta hear from Johnny Height.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, good.
John Haidt
Go now.
Joe Soucheray

Joe Soucheray
I do. I think I have. What do I have, Gabe? I have the 14 inch. I got a big one.
John Haidt
Yeah, it's a lovely digital picture, but I'm sure even they have 10, 12 and 14. I'm sure any of those will. Will look great, just like Mine does.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah.
John Haidt

Joe Soucheray

Patrick Reusse
What is that sound?
Joe Soucheray
I want to hear the sound for sports. Hey, Pat. Well, I would give a sizable amount of money right now if you were here. Hear that noise?
Patrick Reusse
What is that?
Joe Soucheray
That's a big baby.
Patrick Reusse
What is a baby doing in there?
Joe Soucheray
Rookie is babysitting the grandchild today and
Patrick Reusse
he has put the kid in the next room.
Joe Soucheray
I Figured you'd flick this kid's ear,
Patrick Reusse
put it on its belly and let it flop around.
Gabe
But I think you need to give the explanation as to why Matthew is babysitting the.
Joe Soucheray
Maybe you could do that, Matt.
Matthew
I forget why.
Gabe
No, no, no. He needs the explanation because all the
Joe Soucheray
women who might otherwise be tending this child had to go see the devil. We. Because I guess they don't have movies at night anymore.
Patrick Reusse
I guess. I. I got my Devil Wears Prada number two story, too. The D. A. Very excited. Bought three advance tickets. Yep. But only one of her guests could come, so I said, well, I could go. I kind of like the first one. And she said, no, thank you.
Joe Soucheray
No, thank you.
Patrick Reusse
Wow.
Matthew
So you didn't. You didn't have to leave your cojones at the door like I did, huh?
Patrick Reusse
No, no, no. I thought the first one was good, but they're all old now, so.
Kenny
So, Patrick, you've already gone through menopause, correct?
Patrick Reusse
Yes, that's right. Hey, you know, there's a. There's a. Some ladies in there that, you know. I'm not a big fan of the older gal, but the younger one.
Kenny
You dog.
Patrick Reusse
Quite a.
Joe Soucheray
Quite. Quite the night. First time in history, the two teams.
Patrick Reusse
Who was Anne Hathaway's arrival there. The other one, Emily Blunt.
Matthew
Emily Blunt.
Patrick Reusse
Emily Blunt. Okay.
Matthew
Sorry that I'm your go to. I apologize for being the go to on double words.
Joe Soucheray
Proud.
Patrick Reusse
Okay.
Josh Arnold
All right.
Patrick Reusse
Now we can talk about something less important. The greatest night in Minnesota sports since the twins won the 1991 World Series. We can talk about that.
Joe Soucheray
The boys won five to two. Two empty goals. The Timberwolves won. The Twins won.
Patrick Reusse
Good. Good acquisition. Quinn Hughes.
Joe Soucheray
He is. But that team has at least five superstars, if you ask me.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah, they do. They do. But this guy was the one who brought it all together. And it's going to be wonderful to watch him and Makar go after each other in this playoff series because Makar is just as good as he is.
Joe Soucheray
I'm worried that at 38 minutes, he ain't gonna make it till June.
Patrick Reusse
They, you know, we asked. We asked Heinze, you know, us friends of Heinze call Heinzi now. But we asked Heinze about that, and he said he's just. Some of these extraordinary athletes, they just can go and go and go. They're not normal human beings, is what he said.
Joe Soucheray
He's not a normal human being. And I don't think he reminds me of a prairie dog. He'll. He'll. He pops up. He looks Around. He takes off. He looks for something.
Patrick Reusse
Yes. And if he doesn't see anything, then he'll pass the puck over to somebody else. But if he sees something, he goes
Joe Soucheray
and he passes with this peculiar precision. He kind of leans down like a pull cue. He kind of precision passes it to somebody. He's just different. He's different.
Patrick Reusse
If I'm general manager Hind. I mean, Garon, I'm going to call him in here between the start of the next one and say, what's it going to cost me? And then, then when the season's over, you can start getting rid of people so you can keep him, you know? You know what, what is it going to cost?
Joe Soucheray
What's going to cost him is his brother.
Patrick Reusse
No.
Joe Soucheray
I think so.
Patrick Reusse
Oh, crap. You know who, who wants to hang out with their brother that much?
Joe Soucheray
Well, that's a good point. But apparently they want to play together.
Patrick Reusse
You know what? You know what you like. Yeah. In your brother when you only see. See him occasionally. Yeah. You know, Right.
Joe Soucheray
Well, they keep claiming they want to play with each other.
Patrick Reusse
Oh, well then. Well, there's no way that I think our boys can afford both of them.
Kenny
So is there an explanation for Kirill not being as hot as we are hoping?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, Dallas is pretty good.
Kenny
That's. That's what we're going to go with.
Joe Soucheray
I'm going with that. I think he's leading the playoffs in school scoring.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah, he got back too. Yeah, he had a few games without Zuki. That hurt him. He likes Zuki. Yep. But you know, I. He's not a problem, Kenny, but he's not your. You know, Baldies, when they give out their outstanding forward of the year award, Boldies should get it, not Caprio.
Kenny
Yeah, absolutely.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, I'd say Faber Caprice off Boldy. Hughes and E Are.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah, I've been saying that.
Joe Soucheray
All five of the best.
Patrick Reusse
Five of the best. 25 in the league and saying people get mad when you put E in that category.
Kenny
But oh God, he's my number one. I love him.
Patrick Reusse
Well, nobody wants to play against him because he's mean.
Kenny
Right.
Joe Soucheray
You know,
Patrick Reusse
he's big and he's mean. The only thing I got against him is why do we have to call him Eric? Check. Why can't we just go, he's Acker.
Kenny
I call him Acker or.
Patrick Reusse
But. But the last day, Mike. And don't give me this area. Just call yourself A.C. just think how great that would fit an old time headline. At scores twice.
Joe Soucheray
No, they're all. Here's the key they're all very useful right now. There's not a. There's not a deadbeat on the club. This McCarran's been a great find for a rental. He's been. He's been fun. Is it as.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah, he's actually scored a couple of goals.
Joe Soucheray
He's got two does.
Patrick Reusse
But he's a. He's not your average sized hockey player.
Joe Soucheray
He's a big fella. He's a big fella. And then the Timberwolves put away the Denver's.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah, that was a hell of a game. I was over there. And by the way, you know, if those dead ass. Hockey is the only thing that matters, fans, if you'd put up there on the board that the Wild had won, they'd all would have read, oh, so what? I mean if the Wolves had won, they'd say, oh what? At the Wolves game they gave him a roaring ovation. They all jumped out of their seats and applauded when they showed the last 15 seconds of the Wild victory.
Joe Soucheray
Good for them.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah. Yes, they did. They're not like these selfish hockey fans who think there's nothing else.
Joe Soucheray
Well, the Wild would have put up the last if you wanted to stay around there till midnight.
Kenny
Seriously, Joe, who cares about basketball? Hockey is the only sport that matters.
Patrick Reusse
That's what I'm saying. That's.
Kenny
You're in.
Patrick Reusse
The majority of hockey people plus hockey
Kenny
players are better athletes.
Gabe
Oh boy.
Patrick Reusse
Oh yeah, Right? Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
Cool.
Patrick Reusse
You know what would be fun is if you had a five on five basketball game and they wore skates.
Kenny
Oh my God, that'd be fun. Have you heard about the new bare knuckle fighting league where they do it on the ice in skates. You go out there and bare knuckle brawl.
Patrick Reusse
We gotta stop all these side sports that we're putting on television. We're getting the guys in in who catch the. They're gonna have the banana heads or whatever their name is.
Gabe
Savannah Bananas.
Patrick Reusse
Savannah Bananas. They're gonna have them in here for two or three days. They're gonna have the biggest crowd of the season. This is un American. Catch them all behind his back.
Kenny
And I'm Royce. Have you seen. Have you seen slap fighting contests where two guys just belly up to a table and slap the out of other each each other until one gets knocked out?
Patrick Reusse
I used to see that in Graves gay 90s. I wanted to kill my brother, you know?
Gabe
All right, I'm adding it to the list. Royce doesn't like side sports.
Joe Soucheray
Side sports, they're terrible.
Patrick Reusse
Oh, that Kenny Back then, the. My brother had a. Had a sport. It was called pool with another name to it where it used to always hide. And this was when we didn't have Mystic Lakes. So the Native American fellows were coming to town and they would. They would be drinking in the same place as we were, and everybody was fine until my brother started playing pool with them. And we almost. We almost had a family fatality a few times there when he was hiding. The hiding. Hitting the cue ball behind me.
Joe Soucheray
Family fatality, yes.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah, you get very. That guy, he weighed about 150 pounds. And when he drank, he had one of these goofy eyes that would, like, leap and go up and look at you. He'd look at you. Then he'd get full of beer. His eye, like. Oh, he had the crazy eye on the left side, you know. It was time to drive him home when his eye disappeared.
Joe Soucheray
Well, that's a bad sign when the eye goes away.
Patrick Reusse
Then the next day, it seemed the eye and be back. So I'd be okay. Yeah,
Joe Soucheray
Okay.
Patrick Reusse
Into the throes of heavy beer drinking. I kind of miss those drinking days, but it's been 45 years.
Kenny
You can always go back.
Joe Soucheray
I like the Wild over Colorado. They played him pretty well this season.
Patrick Reusse
Oh, yeah. There'll be a lot of. They're not sure. They didn't store a lot of goals. They beat the Kings four straight, but they didn't overwhelm them. They were all close games, so I. I kind of do, too. I think this is the cup here. This is it.
Joe Soucheray
Are you surprised the Duck beat the oil?
Patrick Reusse
You know, the oil just wasn't very good all year. McDavid must be all banged up or something. Well, he.
Joe Soucheray
This puts McDavid in play to leave that club. I know he signed for another year, but he's. He's very disappointed.
Patrick Reusse
Well, yeah, because he took low money to come back, right? He took like 12 million a year and to come back, and then he. Then they did nothing. Yeah, I bet they do. Trade him. He's not going to sign back there. After another.
Joe Soucheray
I don't think Billy can afford him.
Patrick Reusse
No, Billy's got to be bumped up against it after he has to pay huge.
Joe Soucheray
Right.
Patrick Reusse
You know, for goodness sakes.
Joe Soucheray
Well, we'll have fun Monday because by then we'll know who's playing when and who.
Patrick Reusse
Why. Why do we have to wait for tonight to find out when the Wild plays?
Joe Soucheray
I have no idea.
Patrick Reusse
What.
Josh Arnold
What.
Patrick Reusse
What are we waiting? Which. Which game are we waiting?
Joe Soucheray
Boston and Buffalo got another game. Montreal and Tampa have another game.
Patrick Reusse
Neither of those have anything to do with us.
Joe Soucheray
The west is done, right?
Patrick Reusse
Oh, but I bet they're trying to.
Joe Soucheray
No, Vegas and Utah probably aren't done.
Patrick Reusse
Oh, okay. Vegas and Utah. Yeah, but so, but we play Colorado. So Vegas is going to play who then? I mean, if they win, who's what? Who beat Edmonton?
Joe Soucheray
The doc.
Patrick Reusse
The doc. Edmonton. So Anna. Oh, I bet they're, you know. Oh, so that's not fair. The two best teams in the league have to play each other.
Joe Soucheray
Yep.
Patrick Reusse
Colorado and us and then two months from the other division of the west get to play each other. I don't like that.
Joe Soucheray
Well, we'll hash it out Monday.
Patrick Reusse
All right?
Joe Soucheray

Gabe
It's the scramble.
Joe Soucheray
You know it is.
Gabe
And it's brought to us once again by our friends at Harmony Spirits, located down down there in Harmony, Minnesota. Man, oh, man, it's gonna be a beautiful weekend for you to head down to that tasting room and sample it for yourself. You go into that tasting room. First of all, you say hi to Larry and Damon and the entire crew. And they have a wonderful rotating menu of craft cocktails that are served right there in the tasting room. With a beautiful patio, too. It's patio season, ladies and gentlemen, so head on down there. And also you can go into your local liquor store. You can ask for the Harmony brand by name, but also that tasting room, they have those really cool samples, and you can make any kind of four pack. I'm a huge fan of the BlackBerry lemonade on ice. That one's pretty tough to beat, but it's a wonderful place. And it's a couple of GL ers that want you to help them out by going into your local liquor store and ask for the Harmony brand by name. And in a couple of weeks, Joe, we've got pretty big news with Harmony Spirits. Let's just say, let's just put it this way. All of you Gl ers living out of state that want to help out our friends at Harmony Spirits, you're in luck. But we can't announce it yet for a couple of weeks, so say hi to Larry, Damon, the entire crew, and let them know you heard about Harmony Spirits right here on the Garage Logic podcast.
Joe Soucheray
May I tell you who is the winner of the maple syrup gift back, the GL er of the week? Nicholas Stevenson of Cloquet, Minnesota, a town council member since August of 2023.
Gabe
Nice.
Joe Soucheray
So. So, Nick, you have won the gift pack of marvelous Mavis Masters maples. Masters Maple.
Gabe
Yes.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah.
Gabe
Okay. That's up by St. Cloud, right?
Joe Soucheray
Nope, it's up by Duluth.
Matthew
Got it.
Joe Soucheray
I'm going to give you back Nick Stevenson. Congratulations.
Matthew
Yes.
Kenny
Have we been doing that for three years now?
Joe Soucheray
Apparently.
Gabe
And you, too, could become a gl of the week by updating to an annual town council member.
Joe Soucheray
The traveling linemans are cruising the Nepale coast off Kauai Island, Hawaii, getting closer to their home. You can Follow them@worldwidewoftage.com It's only because they come to us from a boat in the sea. On this day, May 1st. On this day in 1840, Joseph Haskell finished constructing his farmhouse near Affton. It was the first commercial farm north of Prairie Duchesne, Wisconsin. On this day, Joe, today is May 1st. In 1896, the US government opened three quarters of the Red Lake Indian Reservation of Ojibwe, the region north and east of 13 towns in Polk County. I'm not going to read all the towns to settler colonists on this day, May one in 1926. This came up earlier today. Sauk center flying the true flag. Sauk Center. Sinclair Lewis declined the Pulitzer Prize for his novel Aerosmith, saying that awards inhibit creativity and make writers lazy. Oh, go bleep yourself. On this day, May 1st. In 1933, prompted by Governor Floyd Bay Olson. Don't you like the name Floyd? Floyd B. Olson, the Minnesota legislature passed an emergency law stopping farm foreclosure sales. The Great Depression and the Dust bowl had hurt farmers throughout the nation and they had responded to foreclosures by organizing Farmers Holiday which attempted to stop the sale of farm products until prices range. Wilmer's John Bosch, who revered the non violent ideas of Mohandas Gandhi, led the state Farmers Holiday movement. It was on this day, Joe Today is May 1st in 1976. St. Paul's Frank Boyd park was dedicated to a fighter for his class, his race and his union. Born in Kansas, Boyd moved to Minnesota in 1904 and joined the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porter's union union in 1925, rising to secretary treasurer in the organization. Active in DFL politics, he was one of the first two African Americans to cast votes in the Electoral College in 1944. He died May 2, 1962. I believe. Last year at this time, I sought out the statue of Frank Boyd at the park. It's on Selby and about between Nina and, you know, right in there. Okay, it's west, it's. I'm sorry, it's east. It's between Western and Summit on Selby, on the north side of Selby. Okay, I think that's the guy. I found a little bust there. That's. Yeah. On this day in sports disappointment history.
Gabe
Joe, who'd we lose to on May 1st?
Joe Soucheray
Well, in 1974, the Saints Fighting Saints lost to the Houston Arrows four games to two in the second round division finals of the WHA. On this day, May 1st, the very next year, in 1975, the Fighting Saints lost to the Quebec Nordiques four games to two in the Second Round. The Quebec Nordiques became the Wilds next fall.
Gabe
Oh, Colorado.
Patrick Reusse
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
On this day.
Gabe
Wait, Quebec is a National Hockey League team? Why are they playing the Saints?
Joe Soucheray
Well, the Quebec Nordiques were a WHA team before they were embraced by the NHL.
Gabe
I did not know that.
Joe Soucheray
Okay, on this day, Joe, today is May 1st, the North Stars. Well, on this day in 1984, the losses keep coming. The North Stars lost to the Oilers 4 to nothing in the conference finals. On this day, May1 in 2002, Twins officials met with Legislatures about the stadium situation and informed then informed them that Donald Watkins does not have the money to buy the team.
Gabe
One slight problem.
Joe Soucheray
That's a little problem he had there.
Gabe
He wanted to buy the team. He just didn't have any money.
Joe Soucheray
And finally, on this day, Joe, today is May 1st. In 2003, the Laker, the. The Wolves lost to the Lakers in the first round of the playoffs four games to two. That's it. G. Ellers, you have big plans for the weekend?
Matthew
Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
You got plans?
Gabe
Minding my own business.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah. Thank you.
Gabe

Yep, I use the word free. 48 minute financial consultation with absolutely zero obligation. And he will always give you the straight talk, he will never give you the sugar coated advice and he is on the line with us once again right here in garagelogic. And boy Josh, we have three winners, three losers and one to go in relation to earnings right now.
Josh Arnold
Well this is in terms Chris, of the Magnificent Seven, which seven of the larger largest stocks in the S&P 500 and also in the Nasdaq 100, only one of the Magnificent Seven still has to report and that currently is the largest company by market capitalization, that being Nvidia is still a few weeks away from its report. That one will be very interesting indeed given the amount of spending that has been going on around artificial intelligence, the build out of data centers and other uses chip. The losers will say of the companies that have reported of the Magnificent Seven and the Magnificent Seven would be favorites Apple and favorite Amazon. Then Alpha Alphabet which you'll know as Google and YouTube, Microsoft and Tesla. Tesla was the first to report and not so good. Car sales were down but market is focusing with Tesla on robotics, Robotics and the use of artificial intelligence as well as their battery Car sales are going to be very difficult for Tesla going

Josh Arnold
opinion particularly their car sales in China where and in Europe where they face a tremendous amount of competition from Chinese electric electric cars. Microsoft was also in the losing category as concerns came about the amount of spending they're doing, the loss of subscription revenue, how they're dealing with open AI. AI and that partnership which has changed a bright spot for Microsoft was still their growth in their cloud business. Microsoft is still, we'll say in correction territory which is a lot better than can be said for a lot of other members of the software space which overall is in bear market territory, down 20% from the highs. Meta owns Facebook, Red Reels and Instagram did not have the number of subscribers that analysts were looking for and they increased their spending. So questions have come up on whether or not they're going to get the return on investment for the spending that they're doing around artificial intelligence. Next came Google firing on all cylinders with YouTube, Google's advertising, their Gemini AI project and they are already showing returns on the spending that they are doing around AI plus Google's cloud was up 60% and analysts cheered that. I will say paired to Amazon's cloud which I covered yesterday, Google's cloud generates about half the revenues that Amazon's cloud generates. The likelihood of Google's cloud growing another 60% in the next quarter I think is on the short side. Google could over the next several weeks become the number one company by market capitalization if the stock crosses the $400 per share threshold. Amazon, my mind a big winner in the AI space. They have really rebounded in the last month since Andrew Jassy's left letter talk which talked or Daniel letter which talked about the strides that Amazon is making in AI with increases in the data center. Their AWS business is growing and it has picked up its pace. And Amazon, Amazon retail business is doing well, third party selling is doing well and their deals with OpenAI as well as Anthropic should ensure continued growth going forward. Not to mention of course some of the what I'll call ancillary services of Amazon. The key customers grew to the services that Amazon provides through Amazon prime membership. Andrew Jassy did tout during his conference call. Their media presence through movies series and of course sports. Apple, my largest position finally stepped into the positive category and produced a much better than expected earnings report. So we'll put this in the beat and raise category. This was a record March quarter for Apple. Revenues continue to exceed estimates. Earnings continue to exceed estimates. March margins for apple an astounding 49% and they guided next quarter for margins even with rising costs for memory chips to be between 47 and 48% again is tremendous. Apple has more than two and a half billion iOS users. More people are switching to to iPhone, iPhone Sales were just under $57 billion which did miss the analyst whisper number but beat the average estimate number by a little bit. Macintosh sales were up led by the new neo computer which Apple has said could turn out to be a 20 billion dollar a year business. Business that's big, big stuff. Amazon services continue to go up. Amazon or to me Apple's Apple services business continued to go up. Apple's China business beat expectations and the only issue really is that there is a supply constraint for some of their product and the cost of memory is going to rise. The way that Apple has looked has been doing things I'm not so sure that it's going to cut significantly into margin. And lastly of course Apple increased their dividend and authorized another $100 billion share buyback. Still a few catalysts for Apple going forward including their worldwide developers conference in early June when they'll and I'll have to say hopefully it'll introduce the new AI powered theory. We'll see how that develops and then you've got the next slate of phones coming in September including a foldable phone which when it comes out, I may have to wait on this but that'll end up in my pocket. So Overall, the magnificent seven are still magnificent.

You know what I realized the hardest part about building a website isn't making it look good, it's getting what's in my head onto the page. But I've been playing with the new WIX Harmony editor and I'm impressed. You can literally just tell it what you want or if you're picky like me, jump in and move things around yourself. The nice part is you can hop between AI and hands on editing so you end up with a site that actually looks the way you pictured it. Try it out for free@wix.com Harmony.

This episode provides a deep look at the current controversy over Minnesota’s state flag—fueled by a combination of civic pride, skepticism about top-down mandates, and a strong desire to maintain local control. The Garage Logic crew frames the resistance as a stand for tradition and “common sense,” highlighting solidarity among towns and residents. The conflict is also used as a lens through which to critique government overreach, erasure of history, and urban decline, all while mixing in rich local color, listener engagement, and lively sports talk.
This episode is quintessential Garage Logic: irreverent, opinionated, conversational, and deeply invested in both the small details and bigger questions facing Minnesota today.
