Hail the Flashlight King.
Joe Soucheray
And now from the Mayor's office above the boathouse on the east shore of Spoon Lake, it's Garage Logic with Chris Reavers manning technology corner. Kenny Olson from the crabby coffee shop. John Height in the news world. And of course the rookie here is your Flashlight king fireworks commissioner and the keeper of common sense, your mayor, Joe Susher. Why thank. Thank you. And because. Because of Rook's absence. Reavers.
Chris Reivers
Yes, sir.
Joe Soucheray
Could you look at me in focus please? This wasn't done.
Chris Reivers
Oh, I got you.
Joe Soucheray
Okay. I have some business I would like to dispatch with. Do you say with dispatch with? Sure. Gl Geologist Stacy weighs in. It just happened. And all this was dated yesterday where we had a 6.1 off Cuba earthquake that was felt in Miami. Buildings shook in Miami. This show has its own geologist. Joe, it is a curious thing. These emails refer to yesterday's show. Joe, it is a curious thing that the assumption is that the purported stolen. You guys are bad. Yeah. Is that the purported stolen. Land should be given back to the indigenous peoples. Let me preface, this is in reference to a piece yesterday when we learned of the demands made by democratic socialists here and elsewhere in America. And among those demands is that all land be returned to the natives. We don't exactly know how that would work. 1851 treaty Joel it is a curious thing that the assumption is that the purported stolen and land should be given back to the indigenous peoples the white men took it from. However, it's safe to say those people groups aren't the original owners inhabitants of that land, just the most recent before whitey showed up. It is widely known and accepted that the Dakota people were a highly mobile society whose territorial boundaries shifted over centuries. They moved westward and southward from the Great Lakes region into the Minnesota and Plains regions after being pushed out of their other lands by Ojibwe tribes upon arrival in Minnesota in the Plains, the Dakota people displaced or took over lands from several other Native American tribes. Cheyenne, Iowa, Otto, Arapaho, etc. So the very people the lunatic fringe is saying we should give back the land to is to give back the land we stole from them. Actually stole it from someone else. And who inevitably stole it from someone else themselves. It's safe to assume that these lands have been taken from dozens, if not hundreds of people groups over the centuries. What gives the people group the white Satan took it from any more right to the land than anyone else? These groups just represent the latest known takers. But it's been proven by these people's group's own historical records that they took it from other people. Shouldn't there be insistence that the land be given back to the original owners? I'm sure there are ancestors of Grug and Zog, my imaginary first cave couple. When ownership lineage of other types of property can't be determined, those properties go to the government who is in power at the time of determination. Which puts us right back to where we are. When they can prove who the original owners were. I'll sign up for giving my land back or giving land back, but I'm keeping mine. Until then, everyone should just have a nice day. And two plus two equals five. Matt Melius thank you. It's probably true. It's not probably true. It's historically accurate that the land, the land was in constant flux with one tribe moving in, another moving out.
Ken
I thought we made that clear yesterday.
Joe Soucheray
Well, maybe not clear enough.
Ken
Well, that's what I said.
Joe Soucheray
We also mentioned the Overton window yesterday, which essentially is just how much the voters will tolerate is That a safe way to summariz, Joe, John Reivers, et al. I'm listening to the Monday episode. You all have the perfect example of the Overton window and have been using it for years. Every new mayor creates a longing for the old Mayor Fry can make you wish that Hodges was still in office. Maybe not the best place to start, but wouldn't you love to have Rybeck in office? Or even Sharon Sales Belton? Each successive mayor has moved what is acceptable to the voting public. Respectfully, dj, longtime listener and proud council member and saddened that Todd and Tom closed down 30 bales. All right, just a two more, I believe. State entry at Taylor's Falls. Apparently we have no money left to maintain the welcome to Minnesota monument at the Taylor Falls entry to the state. It's an embarrassment taxpayers of Minnesota and reflects what a decline this state is seeing in all public infrastructure. I'm vaguely familiar with that sign, having seen it dozens of times over the years. I don't know what Scott Baller is referring to. Maybe the sign is in disrepair. I haven't been to Taylor's Falls lately. Staff, anyone? Anyone?
Ken
I think it should say welcome trans refugees.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I'm sure that there would be people who agree with you. And finally, I'm being taken to task because I've bad mouthed what Trump has done to the D.C. reflecting pool. And this is from Trish. It's been cleaned and renovated and restored. It was a dirty, smelly mess. Not a swimming pool. Lighter blue as an undercoat. It's going to be glorious. All of Washington D.C. is being cleaned and renovated, restored. National Guard is everywhere. It's going to be glorious. Okay, thank you.
Chris Reivers
And I was going to mention this the other day. Sorry, Ken, but there was like a before and after. I don't know, like a two minute video of them cleaning it. It actually it looks a lot better than it did before the video.
Ken
Matthew and I, in our attempt to be clever, got all the details of Forrest Gump backwards. Forrest was not on the dais. The girl.
Chris Reivers
The girl was Jenna.
Ken
Yeah. And Forest was out in the ground.
Chris Reivers
No, Forest was on the mic, remember? Because they asked him to come up
Joe Soucheray
and speak year after year after year.
Ken
Whatever it was, we got it wrong. I don't even know.
Joe Soucheray
Year after year after year, tourists have gone to the mall and the reflecting pool.
Chris Reivers
You ever been?
Patrick Raci
Yes.
Joe Soucheray
And would they have returned year after year after year if it had an odor? I mean, wouldn't the Park Service have maybe once a year or routinely cleaned that? I doubt if it's been sitting there full of water for 75 years, untouched,
Ken
like the Lowry Hill Tunnel.
Joe Soucheray
You gotta scrub her out.
Chris Reivers
Or if you got the backyard pool, you know, you gotta. I mean anything about that. But I'm just saying, like, if Rossi's gotta take the thing to it, he's
Joe Soucheray
gotta take a guy, he's gotta get a guy.
Ken
You swamp it out.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, yeah. Under an air quality alert issued for the Twin Cities. And these are new. These are fairly new in our lives. This one is a high ozone level alert. I only bring it up because, John, tomorrow I'll be asking you to begin doing some research with your ability to research historical newspapers, okay? Tomorrow begins four days in a row when the high temperature records were all established in 1956. And they still hold. It begins tomorrow. And I don't know how we survived it, because A, we weren't inundated with meteorological information on a nightly basis, and B, I don't think we had ozone alerts. So apparently you have to wear an ozone helmet. You can get that at Marlene's House of Helmets. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency announced an air quality outlook. Meteorologists predict this. Okay? But the current thing is, apparently when it's hot and humid now, we can, for purposes of being frightening, we can issue an ozone alert. I don't think it has a smell. Here's today's helmet update. You got to get an ozone helmet. We're supposed to limit our outdoor activities and reduce pollution, Okay? I don't intend to reduce my outdoor activities. I've been enduring, apparently, these ozone attacks for many, many years without any complications. Apparently, sensitive groups are supposed to be highly alert to this.
Ken
You know, you can do what you want, but I'm going to try to help the situation. Joe, I'm only going to burn one tire instead of two.
Joe Soucheray
Forecasters expect ground level ozone pollution to reach the orange category. That's a tough one. Ozone levels are expected to rise during the late morning right now, peaking in the afternoon and dropping off because we have. It's a nice day. See, we can no longer have a nice day. You've got to find something fraught with danger in a nice day. So we have. The combination of mostly sunny skies, warm temps, and low humidity will create conditions for pollutants to react with sunlight, ozone.
Ken
Who are these people who released this?
Joe Soucheray
The local Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
Ken
They obviously don't read the Star Tribune because in today's Star Tribune, Minnesota is ranked best in the country for quality of life.
Chris Reivers
Really?
Ken
So maybe they should get their act together and get with the program.
John Haidt
I got that in the news, actually.
Joe Soucheray
What do they mean by quality of life? How close you are to a coffee shop?
Ken
No amount of liberals is basically what I did. A deep dive on it. And that's all I can come up with. Lots of liberals.
Joe Soucheray
So beginning today, John, I think we should briefly touch base with each of the next four days in 1956 to see if the. I doubt if the television. Well, of course nobody had websites because Al Gore hadn't invented the Internet yet. So nobody was there with a website. But we'll have to rely on the daily newspapers. Did they warn the populace of the Twin Cities that the conditions were perfect for ground. The development of ground level ozone? And I'm betting. I'm betting that won't come up in 1956.
John Haidt
I can't tell you. I immediately went to June 12th. I just picked a random date of those four days. And that had absolutely nothing except that it was going to be hot.
Joe Soucheray
You know what, you know what people thought back then in 1956? What a lovely stretch of summer we're having.
Ken
I have one this year should go. This should be talked about, John. Poop in Lake Hiawatha.
Joe Soucheray
That. That has nothing to do with ozone. I think that has to do with too many people who really don't understand that you shouldn't poop in a lake.
John Haidt
You know, it's really.
Chris Reivers
It's not a health based on that.
Joe Soucheray
You'll learn more here by accent than elsewhere by design. I don't think you should think.
Josh Arnold
Do you think?
Joe Soucheray
No, I'm not gonna ask.
John Haidt
Just Joe. Those are the kind of hard hitting things I tune in.
Joe Soucheray
Tune in here.
John Haidt
Yep, that's it.
Joe Soucheray
Right, because you didn't know that before today.
Ken
Put that on our T shirt.
Joe Soucheray
That's right. Don't poop in a lake.
Ken
Should we get the lake detective to confirm?
Chris Reivers
I already got my show description for today. Joe says semicolon, don't poop in a lake. Duh.
Joe Soucheray
And you'll avoid these dreadful intestinal problems.
Ken
So, yeah, less cow farts.
Chris Reivers
But wait a minute, wait a minute. Let's say, you know, a guy goes up north with the family. It's a long day.
Joe Soucheray
Going up to cruiser.
Ken
No, Chris, no, no. Go on shore.
Chris Reivers
Go on, go on.
Ken
Go on shore.
Chris Reivers
Okay. Yeah, but you know, you've been out there a long day.
Ken
No, go on shore.
Josh Arnold
All right, all right.
Joe Soucheray
No. There's no excuse to behave without dignity and without privacy in class.
Ken
I have toilet paper in my tackle box.
John Haidt
Joe.
Joe Soucheray
One time, the kid I used to have. And his four kids who must have pestered him because he would not have done this under sane conditions. They stopped at Wisconsin Dells one time for the indoor water park.
Chris Reivers
Oh, God.
Joe Soucheray
On the way here one time from Illinois, and all the kids were swimming, and somebody unfortunately did drop one in the water. And it was between the last kitty had out of the water and the shore. So the kid swimming towards this, it's right out of Caddy Shad, and they're screaming at her, stop. You're heading right for.
Ken
This is just like the Moby.
John Haidt
You're heading right for it.
Joe Soucheray
I think what she did, she just do under it and kept going to shore. Oh, God, help me.
Ken
When you have a. I'm sorry I said that.
Chris Reivers
This normally happens in winter sports, you know, basketball, hockey, and whatnot.
Joe Soucheray
What normally happens in winter sports?
Chris Reivers
When you have the weekend getaway for a basketball tournament, a hockey tournament, you inevitably end up at some type of water park.
Joe Soucheray
I guess. I don't know.
Chris Reivers
Everyone for the next three days is sick.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, Lord.
John Haidt
Of course.
Joe Soucheray
I'm sorry the show took this turn. Let's just remember, all of us don't poop in a lake.
Chris Reivers
That's it.
Joe Soucheray
That's right. It's just a bad deal.
Chris Reivers
Is that today's ray of hope?
Joe Soucheray
No, the ray of hope is you getting a new garage floor because installed building solutions uses the latest technology to create new epoxy garage floors. They use polyurea. Of course, I don't know what that means, but I do know it's the latest technology. Doesn't crack. It doesn't yellow. It holds up over tough Minnesota winters. Beautiful. They can do most floors in one day, so you can get your garage back fast. And right now, here, I got to read you something, because right now, they got a deal. Oh, what the hell did I do with it? They got something going you can. Oh, shoot. Come on.
Chris Reivers
Talk about the latest deal from installed building.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, here it is. I got it. I got it.
Chris Reivers
Ibscoding.com.
Joe Soucheray
no, that's. That's. I. I'm sorry, I don't have it. I'll have to tell you about it later, but you can call them right now, get some money off, book your reservation. You might not get your garage done till July or even later. I have no idea. But what you will guarantee, if you're looking at your garage, what you will be guaranteed is that you're gonna get that deal they're offering right now. And the best part, don't forget this. You want that non skid Surface. It's really important in the winter. I'm sorry, it's right in front of me. It's 500 bucks off their concave coding project. Listeners must book their services between now and the end of June. Now, that doesn't mean your garage might be done by the end of the June. June, but you'll still get the 500 bucks off when it is done. To lock in the savings, just mention the code Mayor, which apparently you're going to find@ibscoding.com Ibscoding.com.

Ken
I didn't answer you. Okay, I might, I might not be
Joe Soucheray
ready next to his golf score. Either way, it's a big number. Here's Joe Suzeray.
Ken
Joe, let's just sit here, let this music play out, huh? What do you think?
John Haidt
I love it.
Joe Soucheray
It's fine with me.
John Haidt
Oh, nice.
Chris Reivers
He's gonna do it.
Joe Soucheray
I don't care. That's his problem.
Ken
He does care. Now he's going into that.
John Haidt
We're all gonna do it.
Joe Soucheray
Okay. Tell you about this St. Paul Schools program I found. I'll do it.
Ken
I'll do it. Do you remember the days when you could subscribe to a magazine? Those were good days. You can now subscribe to YouTube channels. Now, finally, you can subscribe to coffee. Get yourself signed up for the coffee subscription from custom roasting.net here's the deal. Our partners at Custom Roasting, they're right there in Buffalo. They've got a couple, two, three options for for ordering coffee. The best cup of coffee you'll ever have by the way. Really good stuff. One of the options is you can sign up to receive two pound and three quarter bags of. No. Does that say three quarter? It does say three quarter of either dark or light roast blends. Now in my case, I love them dark and I thought I was the biggest French roast fan on the planet. And then I discovered the Boundary Waters blend from Custom Roasting.
Chris Reivers
Wow.
Ken
Is that good. Back on track though. You're going to receive three and a half pounds, two bags of your favorite coffee every month. Just get to the website. It's customroasting.net click on the shop tab and then you can explore all of the GL options. There's a couple of different options for you. It's a great deal and like I've said a million times before, it's really a wonderful cup of coffee. And it's all available from the official coffee supplier of GL and the Krabby coffee shop, that website customers
Joe Soucheray
we have another report about fraud and that is that the U.S. house Oversight Committee is accusing Walls and Keith Ellison of one of the most stunning oversight failures regarding the handling of taxpayer fraud and federally funded social programs. They issued the report yesterday. It claims that senior state officials, who would include Walls and Ellison, knew of the fraud early as 2019 but did not stop payments to suspicious providers. The report goes on to say that state agencies had the power to suspend or stop payments without waiting for direction from courts, law enforcement or the federal government. We've been through this together as g lers many, many times. Today's report is the culmination of months of investigative work and reveals hard evidence showing how the Walz administration failed to stop widespread fraud, allowing criminals to enrich themselves at the expense of American taxpayers. Committee Chairman James Comer, Republican Kentucky, said in a statement, it is now clear the Walz administration chose to protect the system rather than protect the taxpayer. Well, we know that we're disappointed by it on this show. It is what's driven us to the two plus two equals five portion of our lives. We don't know anymore what to do. We have been incompetently and unethically governed by this administration. There is not a doubt in my mind that Walz is the worst governor in the history of the state, the most corrupt, at least in terms of the abuse of our Tax dollars, Joe.
Ken
What makes it really glaring for me is that I think any normal person, if they discovered this in the 20 teens, would have done everything in their power to stop it because they would have assumed, at least I would have, that I'm going to get the blame. I've got to stop this right now, or all the blame is going to fall on me. And that person, I would think would go way out of their way to handle this. And he did the opposite.
Joe Soucheray
And Walz has not. The only thing Walsh perhaps has endured or experienced is that he decided, well, maybe I won't. Not maybe I won't run for a third term. That seems to be the only, the only consequence that he's faced. And I'm only guessing he won't come on the show. He does not have the courage, reach. I'm only guessing that he didn't run for the third term because he probably figured enough people would have awakened to his complicit involvement in this horrible theft of our money.
Chris Reivers
I guarantee it was because he was told not to run.
Joe Soucheray
Well, if he was told by Amy, and she's coming here to run for governor. And we dearly want Amy to join us. We need Amy Klobuchar to convince people that it isn't going to be business as usual. She has to upend the apple cart here. Is she capable? I saw her at the Grand Old Days, a film. I was not at Grand Old Days. I saw her on the news at Grand Old Days doing being Amy. You could damn near smell the hot dish she brings to the picnic. Hi, everybody. Isn't this great? Is it going to be the same Minnesota if you just replace walls with her? I don't know. I'm hoping not.
Chris Reivers
I can't wait to hear her explanation when she joins us.
Ken
The statement that his office released after this House panel report was released is just. It's so insulting, Joe. It's so insulting.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I have the statement.
Ken
He will not take responsibility for anything that's gone wrong during his administration. Not one thing.
Joe Soucheray
This committee. This is a spokesman for Walz, right?
Ken
Gave this statement. Yeah.
Joe Soucheray
This committee has proven time and again to be nothing more than a joke. Well, why is it a joke, Tim? The money's been stolen. They continue to rehash Covid era fraud to distract from endless wars, gas prices, ice, and the president's insider trading. Okay, let me stop right there. There. None of that. Tim, all of that might be true, but none of it has anything to do with fraud. Trump did not come here and arrange for this fraud, he had nothing to do with it. This was your doing and you're using a president to deflect the responsibility you have shirked. Trump never had a thing to do with COVID era fraud. He's never had a thing to do with COVID era fraud. He has nothing to do with it. And the endless wars, the gas prices ICE and the insider trading, including a new $12,000 coin you can buy with Trump's face on it. He's had nothing to do with the way Trump and Ellison and the administration has behaved.
Ken
0oh, he's not done. Keep reading.
Joe Soucheray
My friend Governor Walz is glad to see fraudsters are going to prison. If the committee is concerned about corruption, they should investigate why President Trump continues to tax. Let fraudsters out of prison. And he has let fraudsters out of prison. But again, that has. And I think it's dreadful. You all know how I feel about this soulless human in the White House. But he has nothing to him letting some fraudster out of prison, which he shouldn't have has nothing to do with your fraud, Tim. Nothing. But Trump is a very low hanging fruit to use as a deflector. It's very easy to use fraud. It's very easy to use Trump to deflect your sins by just saying, well, see, he sins too. It's just, it's just pure deflection. It's immaturity, it's, it's ridiculous. Walls, you're a ridiculous guy with no gonads whatsoever.
Ken
Would you say, would you say, was Walls perpetuating the politics of fraud in that statement or not? Because I want you to also read Ellison's statement. You'll see what I'm getting at.
Joe Soucheray
Ellison also issued a statement regarding the report saying it is riddled with inaccuracies and misrepresentations. I don't think Keith was able to
Ken
demonstrate that in an effort to, in
Joe Soucheray
an effort to politicize the issue of fraud. Instead of actually helping Minnesota protect tax dollars and go after fraud, you should have held us.
Ken
That's your job, dumb dumb.
Joe Soucheray
That's your job, you moron.
Ken
You're going after Fleet Farm for following the rules on selling guns. You're going after an innocent company instead of protecting us.
Joe Soucheray
He's crying because they didn't get the help. He didn't specify what he considers to be inaccurate. Well, he can't because it's not inaccurate.
Ken
Joe. The funnest best time I've had in my entire life watching TV was watching that government reform committee in March on talking to Walls and Ellison.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, my God.
Ken
That was so much fun.
Joe Soucheray
They appeared before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in March where they had several contentious exchanges with Republican committee makers. You can deflect all you want, Walls. There are many, many of us in Minnesota who know the truth. You have failed. You are a failure.
Chris Reivers
Would you like to go back to March?
Ken
Sure.
Tim Walls
How much money was spent on autism in Minnesota in 2017?
Chris Reivers
Governor, I don't have those numbers in front of me.
Tim Walls
Congressman, did you prepare for this hearing today? And you've seen the numbers about autism fraud in Minnesota. So we're going to do some Minnesota math with you today. Okay? Are you ready? How much money was spent on 2017 for autism in Minnesota? How much?
Chris Reivers
I don't know. I wasn't the governor.
Tim Walls
Okay, did you not just say that you prepared for this hearing today? $1 million. Okay, a quick Google search or using your AI could tell you $1 million was spent. How much money was spent on autism in Minnesota in 2024?
Chris Reivers
I don't have the number in front
Tim Walls
of me as governor in 2024.
Joe Soucheray
I was, but I'm not the head.
Tim Walls
So your excuse before that, you didn't know what 2017 autism numbers were because you were not governor. And today you can't answer the numbers about 2024 as governor, and you still said you prepared for this hearing today. It's unbelievable. $343 million was spent in 2024. What percent increase is that? From 1 million to 343 million. What percentage increase is that?
Chris Reivers
That I'm not here to be your prop.
Joe Soucheray
Go ahead and tell me.
Tim Walls
Well, are you governor of Minnesota or not?
Joe Soucheray
Yes, I am.
Tim Walls
I'm not governor of South Carolina. You can sure as hell bet that I'm going to know the math. The math is 34,200% increase. An increase of 343 times what it was in this time period. Do you know the number of children in Minnesota?
Joe Soucheray
Oh, no, of course I know that. Minnesota ranked as a top three state for children in the last year.
Chris Reivers
Population in Minnesota, 5.7 million.
Tim Walls
Okay. What is the total population of children in Minnesota?
Chris Reivers
I don't have the number in front
Joe Soucheray
of me right now.
Tim Walls
Are you governor of Minnesota?
Joe Soucheray
I know 400,000 were cut out of health care last week.
Tim Walls
You made Are you governor of Minnesota?
Joe Soucheray
Okay, that's enough. Why isn't he in jail?
Chris Reivers
That's a great question.
Joe Soucheray
Seriously, why is he in jail?
Ken
That's Nancy Mace, South Carolina.
Joe Soucheray
But why is it walls in jail? Yeah, I Don't understand why he isn't. I'm serious. Why isn't he in jail?
Chris Reivers
He should be. This is ridiculous.
Ken
And if you think you're upset now. Sorry, Chris. If you think you're upset now, watch that Minnesota Maoist thing that. That Alpha did.
Chris Reivers
Kenny. I keep going to the site every day after we get back from baseball. I go to hit play and I
Ken
thought, well, you can't watch it. Don't watch it before bed.
Chris Reivers
That's just it.
Ken
Watch it early in the day so you can let the. The day's events and news, you know,
Chris Reivers
go for an hour long run.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah. Yeah.
Ken
Well, before you work out. That'd be a good time to watch.
Chris Reivers
I just. I can't do it yet.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I think that's wise, counsel. I think what you watch or read before you go to bed can affect whether you sleep or not. You'll learn more here by accident. That's like don't poop in a lake. That's some strong advice. The mayor's here today to give you stuff you've never heard before.
Chris Reivers
Wait, I got it. You know what? A new column idea. Ask Joe anything.
Joe Soucheray
Should I poop in a lake?
Chris Reivers
Dear. He's going to replace my dear Joe?
Joe Soucheray
No, especially Lake Nokomis, which seems prone to this activity.
Ken
Musings from the Mayor's garage.
Joe Soucheray
I like that what you watch or read before nighty night can really be bothersome.
Chris Reivers
But you just asked a question. Why isn't he in jail? That's the most Tim Walls has been held accountable in that session back in March more than any other time during his entire tenure as governor of this state. Because both he and Ellison were essentially forced to sit there and face the music. And what does he do? Oh, geez, I don't know. I'm just a knucklehead. You're the freaking governor.
Ken
It'd be fun to put him under the lights and ask him about his trips to China. A before he was governor, as when he was a teacher.
Joe Soucheray
Well, I don't think you couldn't believe him. I don't think he would be truthful about why he went.
Chris Reivers
And all he's gonna do is ride this out. He is gonna ride this out until his term is up. And we will never see him again in this state.
Joe Soucheray
God, I hope not.
Chris Reivers
But that. But that. That's letting him off the hook.
Joe Soucheray
I put him in a supermax prison,
Ken
send them to China.
Joe Soucheray
Gee, Ellers, you realize the kind of world we're living in? Let's bring it down to a car accident. I hope you don't have one. And for God's sakes, I hope you're not injured. But if you are, you're aware of the world we're dealing with, you better get some help. And the best help would be Bradshaw and Bryant, personal injury attorney. Insurance companies, God love them, we need them. But they can be difficult to deal with. So can adjusters. So you need a team that Mike Bryant puts together to represent you. He's one of the best personal injury lawyers. For six consecutive years, he's been recognized as a super lawyer in Minnesota by law and politics, which is a reputable bible of such things. I hope you're never in an accident. But if you are, call Bradshaw and Brian at 800-770-7008 or go to MinnesotaPersonal Injury.com. your case evaluation, of course, is no charge to you. And please don't be part of the problem. Don't text or drive. Don't text and drive. Or drive. Distracted. That's just common sense from Bradshaw and Bryant.
Patrick Raci
This is Patrick Raci for the Canopy Group. As you get ready to wander about Minnesota this summer, and you know you will do that, here's something to think about. Somebody's actually looking out for you. Before you hit the road this summer, take a minute and make sure your insurance isn't about to surprise you. Go to TheCanopyGroup.com or call 800-967-3389.

Man, I got a great email. Hang on, hang on. Let me cue the talent standby. This is from Kent. I want to thank Harmony Spears for advertising on Garage Logic. Otherwise I would never have known about them. My wife and I were in Rochester Saturday for a wedding, so I checked out the Harmony Spirit site to see if they were open. Yes, it ended up adding three hours to the trip. But guess what? Andy was There, Andy was great, giving us the dime tour that was worth at least two bits. And answering questions from two people whose only knowledge of distilling and stills is from mash. We talked about topics ranging from the difference between bourbon and whiskey, white rum and dark rum, to how many acres of corn and oats to produce for what they need for distilling and Minnesota inspections and statutes. It was a wide ranging conversation. We left with a six bottle variety packed and smiles all around. Well, Kent, thank you for being a loyal gler and supporting our friends down there at Harmony Spirits. And right now is a wonderful time to stop in at that tasting room and you know what, get the tour. Actually, just bug Larry about the tour. He's the one that's got so much time on his hands. And Damon, he's the one that crafts all those craft cocktails right there behind the bar. But right now, all of you gl ers that want to help support our friends at Harmony Spirits, you can do it from anywhere. Just go online to harmonyspirits.net and click buy online and you can have your favorites shipped right to your front door. It's never been easier to stock up on your go to bottles. Whether you're looking for the vodka, the rum, the gin, the bourbon, the whiskey, it's all there for you. But like I mentioned, the BlackBerry lemonade, ooh, boy. It's dangerous and it's good. But like I said, go online to harmonyspirits.net also check their website for upcoming events and please let them know you heard about them right here on the garagelogic podcast.
Joe Soucheray
Here's John Haidt.
John Haidt
Thank you, Joe. This news brought to you by North American Banking Company. I worked ahead a little bit on my homework, Joe.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
John Haidt
I wanted to see air quality alert history.
Joe Soucheray
Right. For four days in a row beginning tomorrow, the record high temperature remains the four days in 1956.
John Haidt
Right. And I looked up the history of air quality alerts in. In the United States.
Joe Soucheray
Yes.
John Haidt
Not surprisingly, the first came from the city of Los Angeles.
Patrick Raci
Right.
John Haidt
1955.
Joe Soucheray
Okay.
John Haidt
Then the EPA in 1976 introduced the Air quality index.
Joe Soucheray
I see.
John Haidt
Which is what we use nowadays to tell us when we should have an alert.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
John Haidt
That was fully modernized in 1999 by the EPA. And Minnesota in 2008 started doing a daily report. In other words, just like you get your morning temperature.
Joe Soucheray
Yep.
John Haidt
You get your morning air quality index.
Joe Soucheray
I see that all the time.
John Haidt
Every morning.
Joe Soucheray
2008, well, we're under an advisory right now, so be careful. If you're Sensitive the In the news,

a friendly man is facing charges for a drive by shooting in Minneapolis last month that left a man dead. Raquan Johnson, 21 years old, charged with one count of second degree murder yesterday and two counts of drive by shooting with a dangerous weapon. All of this stems from May 22nd. Shortly after midnight, Minneapolis police officers responding to a shooting on the 4100 block of Columbus Avenue south on a report of a shooting at the scene. Police found a man dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Two people at the scene said they were with the victim when a car they didn't know drove past them and fired at them. 32 discharged cartridge casings from six different guns were found on 41st and 42nd street, according to the complaint. Surveillance video as well as witness accounts say an initial round of Gunfire happened near 42nd street before a second round on 41st street followed by yet another round on 42nd Street. Here's the really interesting part of the story that caught my attention. Court records say it was data from Johnson's ankle monitor and cell phone that show him at the crime scene. During the shooting, Johnson admitted to being the shooter. To investigators told authorities he was driving around with two friends when one of them got into an argument with someone, someone who told them to come to the area of East 29th Street. The complaint goes on to say Johnson said his friend shot at three people in an alley, including the victim, before circling the block while continuing to fire guns. The victim up to this point has not yet been identified by authorities.
Ken
Do you guys know how the ankle monitors work? I thought they were supposed to keep you in your residence.
Joe Soucheray
That's what I thought, too. I thought a big alarm would go off. You try to leave this guy dragging it around with him at the scene
John Haidt
of a crime put put him at the scene of a shooting.
Joe Soucheray
Pay no attention to that ankle brace.
Chris Reivers
It wasn't me.
Ken
Do you know. Are you familiar with invisible dog fences?
Joe Soucheray
Of course I am.
Ken
Well, why don't we do that with these guys?
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, when you leave, you get electrocuted.
Ken
Exactly.
John Haidt
A McLeod county deputy is facing charges in Meeker county after allegedly pushing a pocket knife into a man's neck at a bar in April. McLeod County Deputy David William Olson of Grove City was charged late last month with one count each of second degree assault and threats of violence. According to court records, the owner of a Grove City bar met with a Meeker County Deputy April 7 to talk about an incident that had happened at her establishment on April 3rd. The owner told law enforcement around 10:30 in the evening. She asked Olson to leave after seeing him acting confrontational and fighting. Surveillance footage from inside the establishment shows the deputy pointing his fingers at someone out of view and motioning, I'm watching you at 10:33. A couple of minutes later, Olson is seen on video speaking with the victim before stumbling backward and grabbing the victim to stabilize himself. He is then seen reaching into his pocket and putting an object against the right side of the victim's neck, holding a finger over it before eventually, eventually walking away. Witnesses corroborated the surveillance video, saying Olson was heard saying, I'm going to slit everyone's neck in the bar. The victim told law enforcement the owner asked him to break up a fight and de escalate Olson, to which Olson responded by stating he would slit all their throats. The victim added it wasn't until after the incident he learned Olson had pushed the pocket knife into his neck. Olson is a deputy with McLeod County Sheriff's Office, currently on leave, according to a spokesperson for the sheriff's office. Columbia Heights leaders have voted to remove the city's Flock cameras as privacy concerns outweigh law enforcement support for the tool. The cameras, these are the ones we've talked about in the past, are the ones that are used to scan license plates, law enforcement said the cameras help solve crime, but city leaders said residents raised concerns about who could access that data. Public testimony at a town hall in May included questions for police about about whether camera information could be shared with the federal government for immigration enforcement. Sharing Flock camera data for immigration enforcement is prohibited, according to Columbia Heights Police Authority also said Authorities also said the technology was used entirely for solving crime, and the Anoka County Sheriff's Office described cases from sexual assault to stolen vehicles solved with the cameras. But Columbia Heights Mayor Marquez Simula said Operation Metro Soldier Surge hit Columbia Heights so hard, in her words. We had many people out here who have had ICE vehicles sitting outside their house. They've had their first names, addresses and the only reason that an ICE agent would have known that is from their license plate, she said. I know it's hard too, because police are community and I work with our chief and I know it's a good tool, but it's just too limited. They voted yesterday Columbia Heights last evening to get rid of them.
Ken
So all the other arguments have been cast aside privacy, constitutional rights, blah blah blah. But when it comes to ice, we immediately rush and change the law. That's interesting to me. I don't have a point to make other than that that's really, really fascinating.
Joe Soucheray
In the previous story, you mentioned both Meeker and McLeod counties. The guy with the knife in the bar. Neither of them are on the crawl for flying the true flag. We have not heard from. We never heard from Meeker or McLeod county people.
Chris Reivers
Well, wait, do we add counties or cities?
Joe Soucheray
We're flying counties. Cities, you know.
Chris Reivers
Are we?
Joe Soucheray
Yes. Gump County's on there.
Ken
Wait, what's the county seat of Meeker?
John Haidt
Thank you. I was just going to ask. Cities are in Meeker.
Joe Soucheray
I know the counties of Minnesota. I don't know their county seats. You know where they're located?
Chris Reivers
County.
Joe Soucheray
Some of them.
Ken
You're the best.
John Haidt
Joe
Joe Soucheray
manoman, Marshall, Martin, McLeod, Mermaid, Murray, are your M counties.
Chris Reivers
Litchfield is the county seat.
Joe Soucheray
Okay.
Ken
Like when I met, I memorized the Gettysburg Address and I had no idea what he was talking about, but I could say it word for word.
John Haidt
What the hell is four score mean?
Ken
Yeah, exactly. Starting at the very beginning.
Chris Reivers
Litchfield, by the way, is 65 miles west of Minneapolis.
Joe Soucheray
Thank you.
John Haidt
The State of the Nation Project Kenny mentioned this earlier. A bipartisan group focused on the challenges and progress of Americans released study findings this weekend and assessing, quote, how the country is doing. The report analyzed 31 quality of life factors across all 50 states, and guess who was number one?
Joe Soucheray
I don't understand why.
Ken
Oh, there's reasons.
John Haidt
There wasn't one single category that pushed Minnesota to the top of according to Douglas Harris, who leads the State of the Nation project. He said he hoped the report would get community members and public officials talking about how to improve the lives of residents all around the U.S. minnesota ranked in the top five states for citizenship and democracy, which is measured by voter participation and education, which takes into account not just test scores, but the average years of schooling of its residents and the percentage of young adults employed or in school. The state also received a high score in social capital, which is described as the degree to which people cooperate with each other and hold shared values through activities like volunteering. The report says throughout our history, Americans have been recognized for our active participation in civic groups and public affairs, from town hall meetings to marches and volunteering for our favorite causes. The rate of volunteerism around 40% for Minnesotans, but around 30% for US residents as a whole, According to the report. State of the Nation Project, which is funded by Tulane University, used data from 1990 until 2024 to compile the report. Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin and both Dakotas also cracked the top 10 in quality of life rankings. Minnesota did have some low profile points. State was in the bottom half of the country for its environment, from high greenhouse greenhouse gas emissions and low air quality and civil liberties ratings. The category where Minnesota showcased the strongest downward trends was in residents mental health. Minnesota ranks.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, we're being driven nuts.
John Haidt
Minnesota ranks 24th for depression across the US and 12th for fatal overdoses and suicides. The state sits as one of the worst in the country for youth depression. Depression. With more than 20% of surveyed Minnesota teens experiencing a major depressive episode in the past year, according to the report's most recent.
Ken
That's a really interesting stat that you could easily throw away. I wonder what the cause of that depression is. Is it the doom and gloom that they're constantly being preached about in the failed academies or from their parents? Where's that come from?
Joe Soucheray
There's got to be somebody that's profiting by this. This. Who's behind this?
John Haidt
Tulane University.
Joe Soucheray
Tulane University study group. Well, were they selling something? Are they heavily invested in corn or turkeys or something? The things you said that Minnesota has going against it seem to me to far hallway what it has going for it.
John Haidt
Well, Joe, I don't know what to tell you, buddy.
Ken
Joe, it was fun watching your face as John was reading that story. Just the mental wheels.
Josh Arnold
Yeah.
Ken
You're just the exasperation. Yeah, exactly.
Joe Soucheray
I wish it felt that way.
Ken
Yeah. It does not.
John Haidt
I'm just looking to see what they were. You know, to see what you were asking.
Joe Soucheray
You know, like Wallet Hub does these once in a while. Oh, Minneapolis is the best city. Well, they're. They're. They're selling credit cards or something. Yeah.
John Haidt
Wallet Hunter is definitely not.
Joe Soucheray
What do you.
John Haidt
Not to be trusted.
Joe Soucheray
What do you mean?
Chris Reivers
When Walls was asked about child or autism spending, he said this was a great place to raise kids.
Joe Soucheray
Well, that's true. I didn't. I forgot that. You're right. You're right. It's a great place if you like spending money.
John Haidt
Why don't we take a quick break here and hear from Mr. Sucre, the mayor?
Joe Soucheray
I'm doing 80 miles. Let's see. What did a gallon of premium cost me the other day? 529, I think. Think I can do 80 miles of errands for $5.29 on the Yamaha scooter I got from Ecofund Motorsports in Forest Lake, Columbus. That's not an exaggeration. It's fantastic. Turns every errand into an adventure. And I'm getting 80 miles for $5.29 right now. There's a preseason sale at Ecofund Motorsports. It's on Highway 97, just west of the interstate and down in Burnsville on the service road of life near Road 42. Ecofunmotorsports.com.
Chris Reivers
Reavers let's do it.
Joe Soucheray
It's the end of the world as we know it. And he feels fine.
Chris Reivers

North American Banking Company member FDIC is an equal housing lender. John I have to share this very, very quickly with you guys. So this was submitted by loyal town council listener Stephanie. Remember this CLIP we're talking about Tim Wall Walls from January of 2026. And keep in mind this was before he decided that he was not going to run again for governor this year. He was being interviewed on Ms. Now here was his response to the question
Joe Soucheray
of fraud, the gation and the reason that they're here.
Ken
Is there anything you think when you look back you could have done differently
Joe Soucheray
to prevent them from showing up and doing what they're doing here? No, no, they were coming anyway. It was all make believe that we'd been at it. Every state had this. And look, I, I do think there, there has to be accountability in this. No one in state government was implicated. This happens all over. People did this. We put him in jail or whatever the case. Why isn't he in jail?
Chris Reivers
No, but that makes it. Keep in mind that was not even six months ago. That makes it so much worse. It's all make believe was his actual answer.
Joe Soucheray
Oh my word. Timmy, Timmy, Timmy in news.
John Haidt
My computer here is having issues, but I'm getting there. Don't panic.
Chris Reivers
I could just read news from Twitter, John, if you want.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah.
Ken
I have something that's fascinated me all day that I don't think you guys know about. It's two articles from the Minnesota Reformer. One was released June 8th at. Hold on. June 8th at 5:00am headline, first time home buyers face hurdles despite gradual improvement. It's the typical story about how homes are so expensive now that first time home buyers can't afford them. Right, Right. Later that day, 8 o' clock yesterday, or excuse me, 9 o' clock yesterday. Headline, Klobuchar says she'll put Minnesota on Track to build 100,000 new homes if elected.
Joe Soucheray
Well, no, she won't.
Ken
Not one once in that story are they talking about prices and how she's going to do that in regards to prices. I just thought that was fascinating that those two pieces were in the same website yesterday.
John Haidt
In news, President Trump blaming Iran for downing a U.S. army helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday. No, not muse. I get letters when I said state of Hormuz on Tuesday and said the US Must respond to the attack. A drone boat rescued two army aviators who were aboard the Apache attack helicopter when it went down near the waterway that Iran has effectively closed during the war with the US And Israel. Do you guys know we had drone boats?
Joe Soucheray
I did not know that until today.
John Haidt
So they can just basically push some buttons and send a boat out.
Joe Soucheray
I think that is so cool. I didn't know we had that very.
John Haidt
Yeah, yes, Chris.
Chris Reivers
No, you answered my question.
John Haidt
Oh, I'm sorry. Trump said in a social media post that both service members are safe and uninjured. He also continued to write. Nevertheless, the United States must, of course, force respond to this attack. The helicopter went down. Is the Middle east still reeling after Iran and Israel exchanged fire the previous day? And the biggest blow yet to the strange ceasefire in the Iran war? I'm trying, guys, really am, but my computers.
Joe Soucheray
What, are you on dial up out there in Andover or what's the problem?
John Haidt
The computer's freezing. Here we go, though. Here's. Here's another. Here's another story that I'll be able to make it halfway through because of my computer. All right, Bankman freed. The fella who was. I'm trying to ad lib the story. Shouldn't do that, should I?
Joe Soucheray
He was a crypto guy.
John Haidt
He was. And he is asking the Trump administration for a pardon.
Joe Soucheray
I'm sure he'll get one if Trump gets a piece of the action.
John Haidt
Such a pardon would not erase Bankman Fried's conviction, but would instead restore certain civil liberties, like the right to vote or to serve on a jury after he serves out his prison sentence. According to the Department of Justice website, the pardon would also lift barriers to licensing, employment, housing, or education if granted. As CEO of ftx, Bankman Fried became one of the largest donors to Democratic campaigns and causes. However, while serving in federal prison, he posted support of the Trump administration on social media. In an interview with Fox Business published on Monday, Bankman Fried said he absolutely wants a presidential pardon. According to the DOJ's website, Bankman Fried submitted his pardon request sometime in 2026, although they have not listed an exact date. A White House spokesperson declined any comment on what could happen with this. Still trying to get me.
Joe Soucheray
We can end your news if you're having trouble.
Ken
I have one more thing about so
John Haidt
many good stories, though.
Ken
One more thing's loading. Just John. Amy says she's going to do this housing fiasco thing by reforming, permitting, cutting red tape and removing the delays and fees that drive up costs. Amy is fighting so builders can build and Minnesota's Minnesotans have homes they can afford.
John Haidt
Fighting.
Chris Reivers
Wait, is she doing that now, Ken, or she will do that when she becomes governor?
Ken
Chris? No idea.
Chris Reivers
Got it.
Ken
Now, I think these are promises she's making if in fact she's elected. So, yeah.
Chris Reivers
So what's she doing now then, since she does hold office?
Joe Soucheray
I think she was grand old days.
Ken
I think she's currently fighting for us. She is.
Joe Soucheray
Okay.
Chris Reivers
Is it a different fight, Joe, if you're a senator, if you're a congresswoman, if you're a governor, is it the same fight for us or is it a different.
Joe Soucheray
Well, they're not, they're not UFC level fights. There's not, there's not. Fists are not thrown, there's no kicking.
Josh Arnold
Okay.
Joe Soucheray
But there's angry looks, things of that nature.
Chris Reivers
Got it. Okay. Got it.
John Haidt
Apparently. Did you see? Now the UFC fight is taking over the Lincoln Memorial too.
Joe Soucheray
I, I, I, in what sense? I, I, I, I don't know.
John Haidt
I wasn't able to read the.
Joe Soucheray
Get rid of Abe. Is he got to move off his chair there?
John Haidt
I'm not sure how, how that's, I
Chris Reivers
gotta look this up. Hold on.
John Haidt
UFC federal arson. I did get one more story open. Federal arson trial began yesterday for the man accused of sparking last year's deadly Palisades fire. That area is still trying to rebuild. In the aftermath, Reverberating through the LA Mayor's race, 29 year old Jonathan Rinderknecht appeared in court for jury selection wearing a white shirt and a blue tie and pled not guilty to starting what became one of the most destructive wildfires in California history. Prosecutors say Render Connect started a fire January 1, 2025. It burned undetected deep in root systems before it flared back up on January 7th. The Palisades fire ultimately killed 12 people. People destroyed thousands of homes as it incinerated hillside neighborhoods in Pacific Palisades and the city of Malibu. Malibu. Render Connect. What's wrong?
Chris Reivers
What's not the way you pronounce Malibu the first time?
John Haidt
Yeah, I was trying to say Malibu. And the next word was Render connect. They kind of ran together. Malibu. Render Connect faces at least five years in prison. A group of more than 80 potential jurors were sworn in.
Joe Soucheray
You go ahead, John.
John Haidt
Big earthquake. I was going a different story.
Joe Soucheray
Joe, you found something on the Lincoln Memorial.
Chris Reivers
I have it. And much like a graduation ceremony. Please hold your reaction, hold your applause until all the details have been submitted.
Joe Soucheray
All right.
Chris Reivers
And hold your patience, please, for me so I can give forth the information to the audience. Joe. The UFC's historic UFC Freedom 250 of event is scheduled for the weekend of June 12th through the 14th.
Joe Soucheray
It's this weekend.
Chris Reivers
Yes, that's right, that's right. And you already mentioned all of the fighters that will be taking.
Joe Soucheray
Sure.
Chris Reivers
It's a heavy card, It's a high profile event. The Octagon is constructed on the South Lawn, looking out toward the Washington Monument. That's picturesque. Beautiful. John mentioned the Lincoln Memorial. Yes, the Lincoln Memorial will be the official site of the weigh ins.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, right over there. Abe. With Abe watching them, huh?
Chris Reivers
The weigh ins will be held there. The event will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed via Paramount plus.
John Haidt
Yikes.
Chris Reivers
The weigh ins, Joe. Right in front of old Abe.
Joe Soucheray
I think that's great. No, I think it's gonna be wonderful. It's the first thing I thought of to celebrate 250 year history of the country was a UFC octagon.
Ken
I figured, I figured out why. Because President Trump is a huge fan of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Remember what Sean Penn did at the end? Didn't he save somebody's life? And he was awarded thousands and thousands of dollars. Remember what he did with that money?
Joe Soucheray
No.
Ken
He hired Van Halen to play at
Joe Soucheray
a party at the prom or something.
Ken
Yeah, that's what President Trump is doing. He finally made it into office and he's going to have the party he's always wanted to have.
Joe Soucheray
Nothing says 1776 like a UFC fight.
Ken
Just people beating the living hell, blood flying everywhere. Kind of like the revolution.
Joe Soucheray
Kind of. I get it.
Ken
You know, maybe, maybe we could put them in period. What's the phrase?
Joe Soucheray
Period guard garb, period dress, period. Yeah, Joe.
Chris Reivers
The actual fight night is slated for the South Lawn in the White House Sunday, June 14th to coincide with with President Trump's 80 birthday.
Ken
Are the red coats? That's the British, right? The red.
Joe Soucheray
They were the red coats. Correct. And that's right.
Ken
The United States, we just, we were hillbillies.
Joe Soucheray
We just had overalls,
John Haidt
anything.
Ken
He looked like hobos.
Chris Reivers
Do you get Paramount Plus?
Joe Soucheray
I believe we do.
Chris Reivers
Okay, so you will, will you record it and watch it later or do you think you'll tune in live?
Joe Soucheray
I don't know.
Ken
You should have a watch party. Remember when Tyson was in the ring? Every few months we had Tyson parties.
Chris Reivers
You should cover it. You think the Pioneer press would send you out there to cover?
Joe Soucheray
I don't think they would.
Chris Reivers
Okay.
Joe Soucheray
I don't think they would. And even if they did, I don't think I'd go.
Ken
The amount of rage that would be emanating from that home. You could hear see the steam coming out of the windows.
Chris Reivers
Oh, this is fun stuff.
John Haidt
Is the, this. I don't know. This story maybe is related in an odd way.
Joe Soucheray
We give you enough time to have your computer.
John Haidt
Yeah, my computer actually is working. All we're doing here as the US Gets ready for an extravagant celebration of its founding principles. According To a couple new polls. Fewer Americans see the country as exceptional. A survey from the Associated Press NORC center for Public Affairs Research highlights many Americans feeling unease over the future of its government, particularly among young people. Only about one quarter of Americans say the US Stands above all other countries in the world, according to the new poll, while 44% say it's one of the greatest countries in the world, along with some others. About 3 in 10 say there are better countries in the U.S. an increase from 19% in June of 2016. A different poll, this one conducted by Elon University in North Carolina State, says 68% of people here are proud to be American. And 69% believe signers of the Declaration of Independence would feel a lot of disappointment, more disappointment than pride about modern American democracy.
Joe Soucheray
Boy, would they ever.
John Haidt
The Elon University poll finds 80% saying no political party or movement represents their views. 79% says the US plays a uniquely important role in world history. Asked about events representing American democracy at its highest ideal, the civil rights movement of the 1960s and World War II were the top choices. Abraham Lincoln chosen for those sampled as the greatest president. And quotes from Lincoln, George Washington, John F. Kennedy, and Franklin D. Roosevelt drew broad bipartisan resonance for many historic presidential messages when respondents were not told who actually made those statements, according to the poll.
Joe Soucheray
John, thank you so much. Thank you so much.
Josh Arnold
Much.
Chris Reivers
You're getting prepared for that fight. Well, I can tell you you're worried now. Should you have people over.
Ken
But that's that study. You know, you can't blame President Trump for all of that. I've been feeling that who's who blame.
John Haidt
Who's blaming him.
Joe Soucheray
Not know what he did blame him.
Ken
Well, I was kind of reading the look on Joe's face. No, I don't says more than when he talks.
Joe Soucheray
No, I'm in the percentage of people who have no representation.
Ken
And I think that was one of the things John mentioned in that piece.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, I have both parties as they are constructed right now. I have no representation.
John Haidt
Well, good news for you then, Joe. My next story, which obviously I don't have time for, you know who's got a research committee out to run for the president? Greg Bevino.
Joe Soucheray
So good luck. That little midget that was here for
John Haidt
the head of ice here.
Joe Soucheray
Oh, he'd be an old president, wouldn't he? He could wear his great coaches.
John Haidt
He's got an exploratory.
Joe Soucheray
You gotta be kidding me.
John Haidt
Exploratory committee put together, announced it yesterday for 2028 run.
Joe Soucheray
All right. See, you gotta you know, maybe you got the outside tv, you got the Paramount. Plus you're gonna settle down and. And watch that 250th. You're gonna watch this brutal fight. Have a cigar at least, and get it out of your Boveda humidor. There you go. This boved a humidor is really cool because. Well, there's many reasons it's cool, but there's one overriding reason. You don't have to do any work. The humidor is handsome as hell, but you don't have to fool around with distilled water and sponges and magic beads and gauges and all the rest of that bs. You put a Boveda humidor packet in there, that's six months. When that six months is up, you put another Boveda humidor pack in there and you're to going good for the next six months. These things have got it figured out. There's no guessing. It holds perfect humidity for six months. Then you swap the pack. And I think you're looking at it right now on the screen. They're absolutely gorgeous. They're very sharp. They got the neat chrome hardware. And it's just. It's the answer. It's finally the answer. You don't get out your own Tupperware container and try to create a humidor. This does it for you. Traditional look, modern precision, zero maintenance. It's an affordable luxury in your life. An affordable luxury. Boveda B O V e d a bovedahumador.com.
Chris Reivers
Here's a man who spends hours in
Joe Soucheray
hardware stores sifting through the nuts and bolts of life is our friend Joe Soucha. Is our friend Pat Garofalo joining us tomorrow?
Chris Reivers
He will be in studio tomorrow to talk about. I wasn't at liberty to share yesterday, but he debuted as a columnist for the Star Tribune today.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, and you know, typical Pat, he was way too nice.
Josh Arnold
Okay.
Joe Soucheray
Way too nice.
Chris Reivers
Pat reached out to me a week or two ago and said, hey, I've got this thing coming up. I want to talk to Joe about it. It's basically, I think it's going to be a really interesting conversation about the transformation of media in the print form and whatnot. I think it'll be great. And then he also obviously has thoughts about what's going on with the state and everything else. So I thought it'd be a fun conversation. So Pat will be in studio tomorrow.
Ken
Why don't you acknowledge that we're having issues?
Chris Reivers
Yes. GL ers, we understand we are having a Hubbard wifi situation here. So we realize that we did lose the live feed for the final closing moments of the Garage Logic podcast. We apologize.
Joe Soucheray
I want to tell you about my discovery of the most hypocritical pastor, a religious pastor that I've ever seen in my life. Perhaps the most hypocritical person in any field of life anywhere in the world. She is a Nantucket pastor, as in the island of Nantucket. She is defending her church's decision to Cancel its annual 4th of July reading of America's founding documents, using her sermon instead to explain why the long running tradition was axed on the exclusive Massachusetts island favored by very wealthy people. After two and a half centuries of why our founding documents still celebrated as Mainly after two and a half centuries, why are our founding documents still celebrated as mainland aspirational 250 years later? Aspirational? Not being there yet, celebrating the promise of those documents and our country just doesn't cut it, Reverend Aaron Spain of the Second Congressional Congregational Meeting House Society said in a sermon excerpt. The historic Nantucket Unitarian Meeting House has hosted a public region reading of the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights in Downtown Nantucket each Fourth of July holiday for the past 25 years before the church decided to cancel it in May as part of an ongoing effort to understand its what? What is it attempting to understand? Our people are back now. That's wonderful. What are they attempting to understand? Their own whiteness? Lady, if you really think that, you idiot, what the hell are you doing on Nantucket? Why don't you go to any city in America? Head to Martin Luther King Boulevard, find Martin Luther King Boulevard and set your shingle up there with your bs. Okay? Nantucket? Are you kidding me?
Josh Arnold
Me?
Joe Soucheray
What should unify all of us is not to continue to assume or hide behind aspiration, rather to commit to the work of change, to be brave enough to be uncomfortable, unsettled, unaccepting of an incomplete narrative. She said. Lady, I don't buy one word of your bs. You are a crack.
Ken
It makes sense though. If you look at the history of Nantucket, it doesn't make sense to me. But if you're wondering why, due to Quaker pacifism did I say that right? And reliance on the sea, the island fiercely maintained its neutrality during the American Revolution and the War of 1812.
Joe Soucheray
This lady does not belong on Nantucket, she stated in a letter that was printed by the Nantucket Current, which discussed ongoing conversations with the congregation about race, privilege and historical application of constitutional rights. The letter stated that Splain would not engage with Anyone concerned with the cancellation on social media saying those concerned could make an appointment to speak with with her. She must really be an important pastor.
Ken
She thinks she is.
Joe Soucheray
Social media is not the place for important tender conversations. The letter read Fox News, of course, the only one that's writing this. I don't know why other people wouldn't or maybe other people have. They reached out to Splaine for comment. After the Nantucket Current published her letter, she responded with an excerpt from her sermon defending the situation. We have to examine our whiteness. Well, then I suggest, lady, you do it somewhere else because you're in the absolute. You're in ground zero for white privilege. You're in ground zero for it now. I suppose you could say, well, that would be a good place to start a movement like hers. But who are you kidding, lady?
Ken
How is that being taken on the island of Nantucket? Are parishioners walking out? Are they talking about her remark?
Joe Soucheray
Local leaders in the island's Chamber of Commerce had promoted the event in prior years. There are also those who have said the event should continue because it's important to bring people together. The crucial question is what people? Who is missing? What story is being celebrated? Whose experience is part of that story? Well, Nantucket people. That's Spain talking. Why don't you go get a ferry boat full of people from Boston. Boston? From the inner city of Boston and bring them out to Nantucket for the day.
Ken
Oh, God, they'd never let them.
Chris Reivers
We can't deal with that.
Joe Soucheray
Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, you were the places where you. I wonder what this pastor said. Back when they refused to take any displaced illegal immigrants, they had the bus. We approve. They shouldn't be illegal. But not here. Not here. Don't have them here somewhere else. Lady, are you. Lady, you are. You're. You're goofy.
Ken
I wonder where she stands on the flying of the American flag. Old Glory. I bet she doesn't do it. I bet she thinks it represents something that white guilt.
Joe Soucheray
I don't think she's going to be at the weigh in at the Lincoln
Ken
Memorial, but I could easily see her being one of those people that will not fly Old Glory because conservatives like that flag.
Joe Soucheray
So many churches have been infiltrated by people that don't believe the word of God in any way, shape or form. They're like a virus that have taken over. The host commented one person. Wow. They're referring to this woman who is just hiding behind her fake clerical.
Ken
Read that again.
Joe Soucheray
Read that again.
Ken
I really like that. That was Good.
Joe Soucheray
So many churches have been infiltrated by people that don't believe the word of God in any way, shape or form. They're like a virus that have taken
Ken
over the host, changed churches to governments and. Yeah, that's a nicely written piece.
Joe Soucheray
To salvage the annual event, another church on the island, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, announced it would read the Declaration of Independence in the Bill of Rights. Rights according to the Nantucket Current. The Catholics. Well, these were Episcopal. Kenny. These were Episcopal.
Ken
Really? And what is the name of it? The saint.
Joe Soucheray
The St. Paul's oh, I. We may not. We may not be there yet, but we felt it was important to gather together to try to live up to the promises our country has made. St. Paul's Reverend Max Wolf. These documents are aspirational. Okay, well, have fun on Nantucket. Good for you.
Chris Reivers
Speaking of old glory.
Joe Soucheray
Yeah, you wanted some time.
Chris Reivers
Can I have 90 seconds? Boys, I think you'll really truly enjoy this because this might just in fact be.
Joe Soucheray
Here's today's ray of hope.
Chris Reivers
We've all had a teacher in our life, right, that had an impact on us. And I saw this on social media, which can normally be a cesspool, but this is one of those rare occasions where social media is outstanding. All right, so we had a retirement, a 30 year social studies teacher for Jordan Middle School, Mr. Ripley, who also, by the way, was a die hard garage logician. Sorry, is a diehard.
Joe Soucheray
Is this gonna take a long time to set it up?
Chris Reivers
I wanna set it up properly. Cause Mr. Ripley is freaking awesome. So not only a social studies teacher, Kenny will love this. He was the one that handled all the bets between the seventh grade students in class. And by the way, he retired and the students made him a very cool American flag sign in which all the students signed it, presented it to him, you don't have a tea time for another 38 minutes, you're fine. Presented it to him on the last day of school. But the reason I'm playing this is because I want you to hear the message at the end of it. So it was presented to him.
Joe Soucheray
Sounds like Biden singing Happy birthday.
Chris Reivers
That's the seventh graders.
John Haidt
Hey, Mr. Ripley, this is Lee Greenwood. I'm coming to you from my home in Tennessee. And as you see the flag behind me, you'll know that I'm hugely patriotic. I'm going to congratulate you, first of all on teaching social studies at the middle school there in Minnesota for 33 years. So I hope you have a wonderful retirement. I also want to thank you for sharing my music with a middle school students there. Because that is what instills patriotism in our young kids. And that's where it starts again. Happy retirement, God bless you and God bless the usa.
Chris Reivers
How pretty nice and cool is that? Lee Greenwood saw that and responded to him. So shout out to Mr. Ripley. He's awesome.
Joe Soucheray
That was very nice.
Chris Reivers
And shout out to all the kids
Joe Soucheray
at Jordan Middle School only because they come to us all the way from the traveling linemans who are at the airport waiting to board their flight for 2 hour and 37 minutes to Atlanta, Georgia with a 3 hour layover in Atlanta.
Chris Reivers
Their layover's longer than their flight.
Joe Soucheray
Then board their second flight for a 16 hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa.
Josh Arnold
Wow.
Joe Soucheray
It was on this day, Joe.
Chris Reivers
Today is Tuesday, June 9th.
Joe Soucheray
A court. Well in 1871, on this day, a court ordered an injunction against the construction of the Duluth Ship canal which Duluth was building in order to divert traffic from Superior, Wisconsin which had the natural mouth of the Harbor. Duluth Mayor J.B. culver ordered the excavation into high speed, completing the work on June 13th. Just before the formal court order was delivered. Duluth's reply to Superior was, you can stop the water if you can. We can't. The aerial lift bridge now crosses the canal. On this day, June 9th on 1892. On this day, Ira S. Field died at age 78. He and his business partner John Wesley north co founded Northfield. Get it? John Wesley north and Ira Field Northfield. On this day, June 9th in 1894, the steamer Northwest built in Cleveland for James J. Hill's Northern Steamship Company arrived in Duluth completing its maiden voyage. On this day, June 9th in 1920, the Cottonwood Oil Company, the first oil cooperative in the US was incorporated. On this day, June 9th in 1979, Governor Al Quie called out the National Guard to protect truck drivers who continued to work during a nationwide strike. On this day in sports disappointment history,
Chris Reivers
Joe, who did we lose to on June 9th?
Joe Soucheray
Well, in 1975, on this day, Twins manager Frank Quillacy gave the wrong lineup cards of the ump and the Twins batted out of order.
Chris Reivers
Uh, oh yeah, Frank.
Joe Soucheray
On this day, Frank Quillacy's brother.
Chris Reivers
June 9.
Joe Soucheray
On this day in 1976, the Kicks lost to the Pele New York Cosmos 2 to 1, but sent an a North American Soccer League attendance record of 46,164 people, none of whom could be seen because of the marijuana haze that was over the city stadium. I swear they might have announced that, right? Yeah, they might have announced 46,000. But 40,000 people remained in the parking lot on this day, June 9th in 2022, the Twins led off with three consecutive home runs, but lost to the Yankees 10 to 7. Only the second time in major league baseball history that that happened.
Chris Reivers
Joel, let's talk to do it really
Joe Soucheray

And he will always give you the straight talk. He will never give you the sugar coated advice. And he is on the line with us once again right here in garagelogic. And Josh, a question for you because you and I have had conversations over the years, years and I've always wondered what would you give advice to, whether it's a first time investor, a long term investor. What are some of the general principles that you try to apply in terms of investing?
Josh Arnold
The easiest answer, Chris, growth will out growth will out invest for growth. Most people would say, josh, if you buy growth, aren't you paying up growing companies? Well, you might be. And then again, you might not be because the next question is, well, isn't buying value oriented companies, companies with the lowest price to earnings, multiples the lowest price to sales multiple. Isn't that better strategy than going just for growth? Well, the idea is that growth will out. And that has been proven to me improvement to other investors time and time again over long periods of time, growth will out. Now there are a lot of companies that will say in their infancy or when they're, there's just an idea out there that those companies that are involved in the fastest growing industry and there become more and more of them tend to skyrocket very quickly in value and they, and then it is found over a period of time that they're not earning money, that their sales aren't growing, their sales aren't growing. Something has stalled out. And these stocks which have been, we'll say rocket ships, crater and fall to earth and the winners sometimes out of that group are those that have had the staying power and really do have growth, do have an idea, do have products or services that are in demand and they start eventually moving ahead. There of course are those companies that are very steady growers that have again products and services that people want, people need at some point. Yes, these companies do have a mature industry or mature in terms of their growth and the growth slows. These companies then pay out dividends at a higher rate or end up buying back shares, another form of paying investors for them. If I look at an old, and I say an old growth company like Coca Cola, which I have talked about for many years, a very slow old growth company, it doesn't grow at 10 or 12 or 20% but it's a very steady mid single digits grower and they do grow their dividend every, every year and they do buy back some shares and they have a product or actually several products that people can't be without. Water for 1A and say milk, juice, coffee, tea. Coca Cola as an example sells over 200 products in over 200 countries around, around the world. Very, very steady company. Is it going to go to the moon?
Joe Soucheray
No.
Josh Arnold
Is it going to provide a level of safety? Oh yes. And it's going to provide a very nice dividend yield that's going to grow over time. One of the best investors long term, Warren Buffett has included Coca Cola in his portfolio. Berkshire Hathaway for decades at the price that he originally bought. What it added to the shares yet have gone up. But what has increased even more is the dividend. The dividends that are paid out and the dividends that are paid out relative to his cost basis give Berkshire Hathaway and Warren Buffett a dividend yield we'll say in excess of 15% but again that's over a long period of time and Coke is just an old staid company. On the other hand hand a company that started growing fast, faded, came up with new products, saw the growth accelerate and then would fade and come back with newer products and now just is, I'll say is one of the largest companies in the world and they provide a product and service that people really can't be without. That is Apple. Apple now has 2.4 billion iOS users and at least one and a half billion iPhone users. And if I look that most people are going to be replacing their phone every four to five years and when they replace the phone they're going to need more memory, need more storage and they'll probably get more services for from, from. Apple is no longer growing at 20 or 25%, growing at a single digit rate. But Apple does buy back shares and does increase their dividend as a product or service that people can count on and generates tremendous amount of cash flow. So much cash flow and so much cash that the countries in which Apple operates, the governments all want a piece of Apple's Apple business and they attempt to go after Apple as a monopoly. That said, Apple is a very very steady growth company. And even with all the fluctuations and worries that say analysts have over for the next iteration of the iPhone, this company could well continue to perform on a very very long, long term basis. That's an example. Both Coke and Apple are examples of first faster growing companies and then companies that become steady growers. And those are types of companies, companies that for longer term investors you should look, look at growth will out. That is I'll say the biggest bit of advice Chris that I could give any, any investor. The other piece is always keep cash available because inevitably in any given year a market is going to pull back 5 to 10% 3 to 4 times during the course of the year. And having cash available to add to positions is, is beneficial now in putting together any portfolios, you know, for myself or my clients and my money is in the exact same spots that my clients money is in. I'll say we go in together and out together on new purchases. My focus always has been companies around the Internet, companies involved in leisure China related businesses without necessarily being in China because that's still faster growing part of the world. Real assets such as real estate and to keep a portion of money available for short term trading or for operate opportunities and by we'll say concentrating in concentrating or focusing the portfolios in those areas, I have found better opportunities for growth than in other sectors of the marketplace.
Chris Reivers
That's why we come to you for the straight talk and never ever sugarcoat advice. Mr. MoneyTalk. You heard him, G elers. Now is the time for you to pick up the phone and make the call for that free 48 minute financial consultation again with zero obligation. You do that just like I did by dialing 955608 where you always get straight talk and never ever sugarcoated advice. Josh, once again, thank you so much for the time and the chat. Enjoy the rest of your day. We'll talk to you again tomorrow.
Josh Arnold
Thank you very much.

Garage Logic — Episode Summary
6/9/2026: "We react to the Walz response to the US house findings on fraud"
Host: Joe Soucheray ("The Mayor") with Chris Reivers, Ken, John Haidt, and occasional input from Josh Arnold
Podcast Network: Gamut Podcast Network
This episode of Garage Logic centers on the response of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to damning findings by the US House regarding fraud in the administration of federal social programs. The hosts dig into the Oversight Committee’s claims that Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison failed to act on early warnings, sparking passionate commentary and skepticism about government accountability. The discussion is interspersed with reflections on common sense, local news tidbits, historical context, and the ever-present undercurrent of GL’s signature skepticism toward bureaucracy and virtue signaling.
(timestamps: 21:55 — 34:44)
Summary of Accusations:
Hosts’ Reaction:
Walz and Ellison's Deflections:
Walz's spokesperson dismisses the committee as "nothing more than a joke" and deflects blame by referencing Trump, Covid-era fraud, and other unrelated topics (26:14).
Hosts roast this as classic “deflection and immaturity.”
"Trump is a very low hanging fruit to use as a deflector... It's just pure deflection." — Soucheray (27:32).
Ellison claims the report is “riddled with inaccuracies and misrepresentations,” triggering derision as he fails to specify what those inaccuracies are (28:55).
"That's your job, you moron." — Ken (29:19).
The group relives their favorite House committee moment from March, where Walz floundered under questioning about state spending on autism, notably unable to provide answers (30:14–34:10).
“How much money was spent on autism in Minnesota in 2017?” — Rep. Nancy Mace
"Why is he not in jail?" — Joe Soucheray (32:10).
(timestamps: throughout)
(timestamps: 02:37–21:13, 37:13–83:01)
Land Acknowledgement & Historical Ownership:
Discussion over who the “true” indigenous landowners were, challenging the simplistic idea of returning land:
“It’s safe to assume these lands have been taken from dozens...over centuries... What gives the people group the white Satan took it from any more right...?” — from listener email, read by Joe (03:37–06:07).
Overton Window in Local Politics:
Each new, often more radical mayor re-defines what is “acceptable” to voters (06:11).
Local Infrastructure Decay:
The deteriorating "Welcome to Minnesota" sign symbolizes declining state investment (07:52).
Humor & Wisdom—GL Style:
The infamous “don’t poop in a lake” segment combines homespun wisdom with comedic storytelling (13:57–17:15).
“Don't poop in a lake.” — Joe (14:37).
Ozone Alerts & Weather Hysteria:
Skepticism about the proliferation of air quality and ozone alerts, contrasted with the calm, practical approach of previous generations (09:52–13:57).
(timestamps: 39:09–49:22)
Crime & Policing:
Minnesota #1 in Quality of Life?
Discussion of new "State of the Nation" study ranking Minnesota tops in "quality of life" due to metrics like education and social capital, yet with troubling mental health stats, especially youth depression (46:50–48:26).
Hosts question the study’s true meaning and the relevance of state boosters (like WalletHub).
(timestamps: 62:46–82:25)
UFC at the White House:
The surreal announcement that a UFC event will celebrate America’s 250th at the White House South Lawn, with weigh-ins at the Lincoln Memorial (60:54–63:39), provides material for the hosts’ signature Americana-meets-absurdism satire.
“Nothing says 1776 like a UFC fight.” — Ken (62:35)
Declining National Pride:
Citing recent AP and Elon University polls, the show notes younger Americans’ eroding sense of "American exceptionalism" (64:00–65:38), and Joe voices personal disillusionment with political representation.
Virtue Signaling on Nantucket:
Scathing commentary on a Nantucket pastor canceling the church’s July 4th reading for a "re-examination of whiteness and privilege." Joe derides the move as peak hypocrisy and virtue signaling (69:34–76:48).
“You are in ground zero for white privilege.” — Joe (73:59).
Patriotism in Action – A ‘Ray of Hope’:
Uplifting story about a retiring social studies teacher (Mr. Ripley) and his gift of a signed American flag, topped by a Lee Greenwood message, highlights GL’s appreciation for “old-school” values (76:59–79:15).
“Because that is what instills patriotism in our young kids. And that’s where it starts…” — Lee Greenwood (79:08)
The hosts maintain their trademark blend of humor, sarcasm, righteous indignation, and “gumption county” common sense. The show leans heavily skeptical of political elites and bureaucracy, balances local pride with sharp critique, and always seeks the absurd in the “new normal.” Listeners get a mix of political watchdogging, everyday wisdom, and quips that make sense only in the world of Garage Logic.
This episode is a bracing GL primer: you’ll leave both informed and entertained, with plenty of Minnesota context and no shortage of skeptical, banter-laden analysis. You may never look at political press conferences, air quality alerts, or lakeside etiquette quite the same way again.
